This is another amongst the«aggressively mediocre» category. Clean restaurant, cheerful staff, but please be warned that it’s takeout only. The fish was properly cooked, the shrimp were battered so thoroughly that it was about a 2:1 frying to shrimp ratio, and the chicken was blah. It feels like everything’s frozen and re-fried, but nowhere is it more clear than the chalky hush puppies. Not really worth the calories.

This is a delicious and filling place to eat! The place has friendly staff and fairly good prices for the most part. The batter and peanut oil complement the food very well. The food is overall tasty. I do enjoy coming here every so often. Often you can eat in the little shelf at the side, but you can take out which most people do, including myself. Overall, I highly recommend this place!

Ok… but not the best fish and chips I have ever had. Hope this isnt Baltimore’s best. Menu is confusimg and hard to read. Strickly a pick up and carry joint, no chairs or tables.

I was less than impressed. I got take-out(few places to sit, so you almost have to), but it was unimpressive. The fish was just okay, and I also got fried scallops. All of it was exceptionally greasy. Also completely stunk up my car for two days.

I haven’t visited in a bit but yum, this place is really great, I get the King box when I come here. It has fish, chicken, shrimp, chicken, fries(chips), oysters, and hush puppies. I love the house made tarter, a must try! I always did the carry out and when I got home I do a sprinkle of JO’s crab seasoning, cheating but its great! I gave 4 stars because the hush puppies are a bit strong on the onion flavor, besides that it’s a favorite for me when I’m in the area.

Sweet Husband Mine and I had a Friday«date night» recently, and we decided to go to the Bengies and see movies, but we were pretty hungry and wanted to eat somewhere. After checking Unilocal out, we decided on this place for dinner, and we weren’t disappointed. First, be aware — this is not by any stretch of the imagination«healthy» food. This is battered and fried fish and potatoes in grease(though, to their credit, not too much of it), so if you’re looking for something that won’t pack a pound on your waistline, keep on driving. However, if you want really good tasting battered fish and potatoes that don’t come out of a box, you want to stop. Original has different combinations — you can get battered fish and fries, or chicken and fries, or fish AND chicken AND fries. There isn’t much of a variety, I’m afraid. But what they do, they do very well. The fish was plentiful and tasted really good. You have a choice of cocktail or tartar sauce and it’ll complement the fish nicely. Fries weren’t the long shoestring style that we’re used to, but short and stubby — just like fries in the U.K. look. Someone in this place is a massive Beatles fan — there was a LOT of memorabilia in the restaurant for decoration. They do have a few stools and a counter-style table along the wall if you want to eat in, but I suspect this is more of a neighborhood«takeout» place than anything else. The only thing that keeps this from a 5-star review is that I found the staff a little, uh, creepy. There was a young woman in there with probably the perkiest sounding voice I’ve ever heard in my life — it was so «perky», as a matter of fact, that it sounded almost contrived. I just got the creeps listening to her say«thank YEEWWW come again». If we’re in the area again, and willing to sacrifice healthy living for one night, we’ll probably stop by. It’s worth a visit at least once. Tip for Diabetics: Make sure you have the carbs for this, because if you don’t? Hospital trip. If you have any problems with potatoes or breading, do not even eat here, because it’s all they do. There’s no substitutions available. Disclaimer: I’m not a doctor. YMMV. Seek medical advice and tailor my review to your situation. I simply provide opinion.

The batter they use is actually quite good. The texture is perfect with the right about of crisp to it. It stays together even after a few bites unlike other restaurants where it flakes off easily. Personally it might have been a tad too thick but it is extremely tasty. The cole slaw is good as well as the hush puppies. The chips, or fries, is good but nothing too special about them.

Fish and chips are something so simple, but are so hard to prepare properly. The simple concept of battering a flaky fish and frying it seems basic, yet so many establishments make such an atrocious mess out of it. Original Fish & Chips prepares this British classic to perfection. The restaurant is very unassuming, sitting in a small quiet strip mall across from a Walmart. As you walk into this small take-away joint you will most likely be greeted by the owner who is usually working the counter or in the back preparing the seafood. There are various kinds of fried seafood on the menu, but trust me on this — just order the fish. For less than $ 8 you get two beautiful golden brown pieces of cod, with fries and hush puppies. The fish is always piping hot, as each piece is fried to order. As you break through the crispy beer batter, you see the pearly white flaky cod, which is always perfectly cooked. A tad of house made tartar sauce makes for a delicious bite. I haven’t had fish and chips in the U.K. but I can’t imagine it getting better than this. The fish and chips are incredibly memorable and worth traveling to Middle River for. Original Fish & Chips is a rare find and definitely worth checking out.

He has now opened a place in Ocean City called Olde English Fish and Chips. It’s at the 67th St. Town Ctr. Good seating, great staff and easy parking. Best off all, the food is just as good or better!

Mmmmmm good! If you don’t like extra crunchy fish you won’t like this. I thought it was going to be really greasy but not all. The apple pies are good too. Lil out of the way but worth the trip.

The food is good for fried food. Nothing is wonderfully flavorful. If you’re hungry for fried, this is the place to go! Food is decent, service is great. The guys that work there are nice! Positives: Great hush puppies and clams. Quick service, better than fast food. Negatives: Cant eat in– house, everything else is pretty plain. The ‘chips’ are VERY potato heavy. With some tartar sauce, you’re good to go!

Oh my god I LOVE this place! No in house seating(pretty much a take out joint) but we always get the family fish boat: 8 pieces of awesome crispy white fish, 6 hush puppies, a ton of fries & cole slaw for $ 19.99. Try to beat that anywhere. SO good. I see some bad reviews on here and I don’t get it. I’ve never had a bad meal here, and unlike other places this fish is even awesome the day after in the toaster oven.

The food was pretty good. You would die if you ate it everyday. Bottom line we ate all the food. But that night when we got home our asses exploded almost in my paints. never to return. by the way it was the fish and chips that caused some down time in the bathroom.

Our first time at «Fish and Chips» which we’ve driven past many times since moving to Middle River. We both ordered the two piece fish with chips and hush puppies. My husband also got a chicken taco, just to check it out. I was full after one piece of fish, half the fries and one hush puppy. The portions were good. The fish was clearly freshly battered and fried, nice and crispy though not overly flavorful. The taco wasn’t too bad, I’d order just that, myself. The fries were frozen and dropped, but I had a discussion with the owner about the financial necessities for fresh fries. I didn’t understand how much room per demand was needed to have fries like that. We’ll go back, if only to check out some of the more seafood-y type items like the battered shrimp. Not knocking my socks off amazing, but I think the 3 star«A-OK» about sums it up.

Remember growing up with Arthur Treacher’s Fish and Chips!!! I do!!! This place is something of a reincarnation, and pays homage to my beloved childhood memory(I remember being at the Essex one with my mom, watching one of the classic Ali fights if the 70’s!). Alright already… on to the review! Wifey and I have been to Original more than a half dozen times, and find it to be a very dependable place for good fish sandwiches and fish-n-chips, though their meaty, nicely battered fish(NEVER over-battered, based on our experiences) seems more consistent than the chips/fries, which range from good to mediocre. I love the hush puppies as well. Service has always seemed quite good and often smiley, even though it’s an order-at-the-counter sorta place. Seating is very limited, and the place is clearly no-frills, but that’s fine for a «chippy” — and mind you, we’ve been to quite a few chippies while visiting the U.K. I honestly don’t get folks that go to places like this and expect some big sit-down restaurant with«tasteful» décor… the framed posters of castles, pubs and the Beatles are just fine with me, and more true to a chippy than the usual earth tone cloth booths and walls with sconces and faux art! So, if you’re in the mood for this sorta fish, and don’t want to overpay for some dubious, less good versions in normal restaurants and pubs(you know, the ones with fancy-pants batters or who thing tartar sauce just isn’t sufficiently creative, and whose fish has a soggy batter that it sheds after one bite!), make your way to Original Fish and Chips. Have a hush puppy for me!!! No booze here, by the way!

I cannot express to you my love for fish and chips. I grew up on them with parents who are both from Commonwealth countries. Any place that has fish and chips on the menu, I order it and am usually devastatingly disappointed. So, when I heard about this UK based chain I made a decision to leave city limits and drive 30 minutes for it. For real. I drove 30 minutes for take away and it was well, well worth it. First, the food is cooked in peanut oil. This is the BEST way to get fried food. Peanut oil has a high smoking point so you can get it super hot and the food way crispy. The owner was so friendly and helpful that I wanted to just hug him. While I was deciding what to get, several patrons told me everything was good and they’d been there several times in the last week alone. I had the two piece fish with chips and mushrooms. For real. While I didn’t find the seasoning of the breading or fish to be strong enough for my liking, the fish was not over breaded nor was it soggy. Even better, it STAYEDCRISPY for a good hour. Can you imagine? Not greasy, not soggy. But, delightfully crispy. Condiments were plentiful with loads of options(vinegar, old bar, tartar, cocktail sauce, ketchup, hot sauce). I’ll be back at Original Fish & Chips. So far, it’s the best Baltimore has to offer

Fantastic food! I’ve been on more than one occasion and am planning to pick up a large order for the family. Definitely recommend for anyone — they have something for you. I personally love the shrimp, but the fish is awesome as well. Only problem is deciding what I want to order!

I’ve only been once, but I am already a fan of this place. There’s not really seating anywhere, but I’m not sure that there is supposed to be any! It definitely had a more carryout vibe to me. In any event, my boyfriend and I decided to get our food and sit at one of the tables outside, and everything was delicious. We both got the fish and chips, which was cooked perfectly, and came with hush puppies that also were flavorful and well-prepared. We payed about $ 6.50 each, so definitely a good price, especially since we were stuffed by the end of the meal. I am definitely planning a trip back here! If you are looking for good fish and chips, and don’t mind the drive out to Middle River, hop in the car and check it out!

Stopped in today for the first time today, got the King’s sampler for the Ravens game. Flavorless is all I can say, especially the chicken. The batter is novelty fluffy and tasteless. What a shame, I was expecting something different and good. It was just different. The seating is a joke, the floor was filthy. Doubt I’ll be back.

Nasty. I know it is fried food, but when the batter is 50% of the product, you need to choose a new food vendor. People around the store seem to love it, but I would avoid at all cost.
