This really was a delicious meal. I ordered the penne bolonese and my wife the scampi. They make their pasta in house and you could taste the difference. I am very glad we went out of our way to eat here. Would return in a heartbeat.

Goodness gracious, the food at Ida’s was absolutely delicious! I would recommend the three cheese polenta with tomato sauce and the linguine bolognese — both made me roll my eyes with delight! We had a great server in Tess and the restaurant had a very friendly vibe. We had tiramisu and a brownie sundae for dessert — both were very satisfying. So, when on the island you have plenty of exceptional dining options outside of downtown Newport and Ida’s is on the top of that list! Thanks for a lovely meal!

We had our best meal of our trip so far tonight. We started our evening with wine and cocktails. We then moved on to their salad special of the evening, heirloom tomato slices over mixed greens with fresh mozzarella, balsamic, and sweet corn. So good. The tomatoes were firm and fresh. The corn provided a nice texture and the balsamic was sweet and tart. I had the veal parmigiana with homemade linguine. It was superb. The sauce was so fresh and delicious. My companion had the lasagna and raved about it. Service was very good. My only negative comment was that it was loud and difficult to hear my dinner companions. Of course, the food was so good, we were too busy to talk.

The food was pretty good. The staff was attentive and pleasant. The wine list was average. We started with the broccoli three cheese polenta which was delicious. My husband had the special of freshly caught striped bass on a bed of heirloom tomatoes. It was a bit overdone but really enjoyable. I had the veal marsala. It was delicious. Both entrees came with a side and we both ordered the house made pasta. I had the red sauce and the husband had the pesto. The pasta itself was properly cooked(to the tooth), but both sauces were seriously lacking. The pesto tasted like oily basil. So, will we be back? Maybe. It wasn’t bad and it wasn’t spectacular either. For the price, it was well worth it.

Family friendly atmosphere with a menu for for a foodie! Amazing selection of beer and wine. A MUST for any family!!! We travel constantly and depend on Unilocal reviews to find local small restaurants that have something special to offer and we found that at Ida’s.

SO delicious. I ate here nearly a year ago and my family and I still talk about our amazing food from Ida’s. There were 4 of us and we each ordered something different. We ended up passing our plates around because literally everything we ordered was so flipping good that we all had to try some. They had a corn sauce that was absolutely fantastic.

Holy. Holy. Holy. We were devastated when Puerini’s in Newport closed. We had been loyal patrons for over two decades. Where would we celebrate our milestones? Ah, for The Almighty provides. The pleasant and gracious son of the original and most lovely owner of Puerini’s opened Ida’s. The chicken Marsala is exactly the way we fondly remembered it to be. Come home. The street lights are on. Momma’s yelling for you to hurry your ass home. Dinner’s ready.

Friend and I had the best dinner at Ida’s tonight! The Bolognese with homemade fettuccine is amazing! My friend had the ribeye special, a 12oz ribeye smothered with sausage, onions and peppers. It was so good, couldn’t put his fork down. Great selection of beer and wine, and a full bar, with special cocktails. Not hard to tell everything is fresh and made to order, really, incomparable!!! The service was great too! Love this place.

Came in after a long drive from Maine. Visiting from California. Lucked out with this place. Walked in at almost closing to total hospitality and welcome. Food was A Maz Ing. Wished we lived here! Lasagna yum. My chicken and waffles special was delicious. Go to this place. You won’t regret it!

So if you read the reviews here that are less than enthusiastic give this place a try. Every Italian meal starts with good bread and they serve a nice crusty bread with tasty virgin olive oil. The lettuce in the Caesar salad was fresh and crispy. We had the veal parmigiana with a side of eggplant and it was exceptional. A tender, delicious, generous portion of veal topped with a rich flavorful sauce. A very good value and we can’t wait until our next visit.

I miss Gold’s-the food was consistently delicious and the staff and service were great. I had put off trying Ida’s for a long time. But over the holidays I went with family. Our experience was a mixed bag, but mostly disappointing. Good: The garlic bread wasn’t anything special. I don’t like gorgonzola so I didn’t try the gorgonzola dipping sauce, but the rest of our party raved about it. My aunt was going to be attending a dinner party the next day, so she purchased dipping sauce to take to the party. The sauce was that good. My uncle ordered one of the night’s specials, a veal dish with vanilla in the sauce. My uncle enjoyed the dish and was surprised that the flavors worked so well together. Bad: My father ordered one of the other specials, a chicken dish. There were two large chicken breasts and a huge lump of stuffing. My dad will eat almost anything, but a few bites of the chicken and he was done. I was trying to decide between three entrees. I asked the server if she would recommend the pot pie. It turns out that they were out of pot pies. I then asked about another dish, but they were out of that too. I ended up ordering the fettuccine bolognese. It was fine. Someone at the table ordered the Thanksgiving Stuffing Muffin. I love stuffing and was excited to try it. I had one bite and I was done. The service was okay. Our server was fine, but awkward. Awkward enough that it was discussed on the ride home. Take away: While I believe in giving a restaurant a few tries, I don’t plan on returning to Ida’s. I really miss Gold’s.

Came for lunch, interested in a sandwich. I chose the burger which was excellent, among the best I’ve ever had. It was served with a small salad and a red skin potato salad, both of which were delicious. Service was prompt, courteous and friendly.

Overpriced for the food given. Simple food that I could make at home — if you can cook pasta and grate cheese with some broccoli, you’ve made a $ 15 dish. No pasta with their Marsala, that’s $ 5 extra. No kids menu, so spent $ 5 on plain noodles, plus $ 5 on asparagus for a $ 10 kids meal… I wish we would have gone next door to the Thai place, we chose poorly.

Medium. Food is OK service is OK. Nothing super stellar here. Will probably not return. And I gave this place a few tries… It’s just not the same as Puerinis

Always lovely. Always great service. Next time I will order the pasta. My bf is addicted to the ragu. Our volcano salad was large and delicious. The bread and fresh olive oil is a large portion. I ordered the bass it was good but not great but like I said when in Rome do as the Romans do. Dont get me wrong it was very good but the times before when I have ordered any of the fresh pasta dishes they are toooooo die for

2.3 Stars I like what they did with the space there is more room and more tables and it’s not as cloistered as Gold’s was. The bar is bit smaller but still comfortable. The tables on the back wall are more intimate but all the tables are spaced well enough. The food was a disappointment. We had plain garlic bread($ 4– 2 small pieces) nothing special and slightly over toasted. No complimentary bread or rolls were offered? The best dish I tried was the Cool Sliced Beats, there were 3 oreo cookies; 2 beat slices sandwiching goat cheese topped with candied nuts. Perhaps honey walnuts might have been better but the dish worked. The entrees were less impressive. The ribeye steak was decent but $ 24 for 8oz steak? The veal($ 22) marsala and the chicken($ 18) marsala suffered from being over peppered, see photos, black pepper is visible. The sauce lacked for any marsala flavor. The veal and the chicken were vulcanized, with 3 smallish medallions the portions were on the light side. The biggest travesty was the so called«linguine» which were ramen like in appearance and tasted like Spätzle(German Noodles). Bottomline: The menu is simple enough, but the execution is lacking. Prices are high for what you get. The wine list is populated with mostly lower to mid-tier wines at a high markup. There are some nice choices by the glass on the whites. Not that many taps and Newport Storm is prominent, but I think they should add more. * I grew up in Newport; ate at Puerini’s many times, not the same quality. * I didn’t order one but it looked like the Entrée Salads were a good value(~$ 10). * service staff & bartender were very attentive, and helpful. * Ample lot parking.

Very nice people, but not worth the prices in my opinion. Went in for dinner with my wife. I ordered a beer and the chicken piccata with asparagus as the side. My wife ordered a soda & the linguini with a salad and we shared an order of garlic bread. The garlic bread arrived with her salad. Both were excellent although the bread was a small portion. The entrees arrived and I found the chicken piccata to be a fair portion of chicken, but it was sitting in a pool of liquid, almost like a soup, with maybe a dozen capers. It was disappointing and there just wasn’t much flavor. My wife enjoyed the linguini, but wanted more garlic bread so we asked for another order. This one was even smaller than the first. I would point out that after our initial order we didn’t see our waitress again until we were almost done and my wife wanted more garlic bread. At no time were we asked if we wanted another drink even though my beer was empty about halfway through dinner. When we finished we just asked for the check, paid and left. Overall, the staff was very pleasant, the food came out very quickly and exactly as ordered, but we found the quality of the food, the portion sizes and the service were simply not worth the prices. There are better options in the county. It was just a disappointing experience.
