If you are hungry for Indian food, don’t be anal and let the location in a hotel bother you. I had a vegetarian combination platter, very good, especially the raita, the sag paneer, the garlic naan, and mango lassi.

Lunch buffet was okay for $ 10 but didn’t have much of a selection. I was in a hurry and didn’t want fast food so this worked out perfectly. The garlic bread that came with the lunch was probably the best part of the meal.

I try to visit this restaurant when I am in that part of town. I am not a food expert, just care that it tastes good and it agrees with me. I always enjoy the Indian food here. You can get it quickly at the buffet and I have enjoyed each item I have tried plus the hot tea. Price is $ 12& change at lunch. It is kind of sad that there seems to be a drop-off in the amount of customers… every time I have been in the past year, there were just a few other people dining.

Wow! What a gem in Midland. This is my first visit to this town and Unilocal does not offer many options relative to other locals, but when I accidently stumbled onto this place, I decided to give it a try. Located in the lobby of the Texan Hotel, I found plenty of parking. Walked in to a near empty seating area and realized that this is a buffet. Not terribly excited about the situation, I walked to the buffet table to check it out and was pleasantly suprised. There was tandoori chicken, a couple biriyanis, beef chili(my favorite) prawn masala, chicken Tikka masalla, dal, samosas and sag paneer. I was a bit disappointed with the paneer because potatoes w were substituted for the paneer cheese, but I cannot condemn them for that. This is Midland, Texas for the love of God. We are lucky that anyone knows what Tikka masala is. Anyway, if you are tired of the same olé, same olé and are looking for something that will make your taste buds dance a jig, give this place a try and DON’T BESHY.

The chicken masala and the chicken tikka masala are both very good! I prefer medium, but my co-workers like to order it hot, I’ve heard spicy is much too hot. The naan is to die for. They have a lunch buffet that I would recommend doing a flyby of before ordering off the menu.

Terrible excuse for Indian food. I am from Houston and can’t stress how this is no where near the taste and quality available in Houston and elsewhere. Don’t waste your time and money. The only game in town is a fools game.

I absolutely love asian and middle-eastern curries, but felt somewhat apprehensive about the restaurant attached to the Grand Texan Hotel I was staying in. But once I scanned the menu — literally dozens of authentic, Middle Eastern dishes — I decided upon a spicy-hot cashew curry Chicken, and a ground lamb-stuffed Naan, and I went for it. The accompanying rice was excellent — long grain Jasmine, a high-quality side cooked perfectly — texture and spice — seasoned w/cumin seed and butter. The highlight was the spicy cashew red Curry which was absolutely spectacular — slightly sweet but mostly savory, rich herbacious spiciness! Extremely tasty. I actually said«DAAAYUM!» upon my initial bite. I had also ordered a lamb-stuffed bread(Naan), which was also unexpectedly fresh and decadent. There was definitely enough food to feed two people with normal appetites. If you’re a heavier eater, you might order one dish per person. Excellent and unexpected Middle-Eastern food in the Midland area! Will def be back.

We had driven from San Antonio, checked in, and went to Shahi Tandoor. It was a large, uninviting room with tables in rows and no other dinners. I asked for Cabernet Sauvignon. They only had Merlot. The waiter returned — no Merlot, only a couple of whites. We waited for the menus and then the waiter couldn’t describe the dishes. After we ordered, we waited, and then she came by and said there was a salad bar. The food was OK. Overall barely 3-stars.

Just tried Indian food for the first time. I just ate the lamb samosa. They were amazing they bring out 2 sauces. The chef brought them out on a plate. I am now waiting for my main course. I bet it will be good considering the appetizers

I found the saag paneer inedible. It looked right but had a really odd flavor that was concerning. The navrattan korma was just a bag of frozen mixed veggies in a too-thick and not flavorful sauce. The chicken tikka masala was tolerable. The naan was fine. I won’t ever go back though. Bummer.

This is passable Indian food restaurant. Considering we are in Midland, this place is a jewel! So nice to have an option besides burgers and Mexican food. We will be back.

I thought this place was excellent! Great Indian food in Midland? Seems too good to be true, but this place is the real deal. I came here on a Friday night with 5 others. I thought I was lost because I didn’t see a stand alone restaurant but the place is inside the hotel to the left. It was pretty empty for a Friday night but that didn’t bother me. The waitress was quick to greet us, bring out menus and our drinks. They have a very good Indian menu. Very authentic dishes and the wait staff will help you out if you’re wondering what’s in each dish. I ended up getting the Rogan Josh, which is a lamb dish in the traditional curry, at the hot spice level. I also got a side of Garlic Naan. Most people at my table ordered the Chicken Masala, which is the traditional curry sauce as well. The wait for the food wasn’t bad as they gave us Naan to chew on with some good dips. The food came out spicy and smelling amazing. My lamb was cooked well and the curry sauce was exceptional. The spiciness was true to what I ordered and was spicy. I’m a Cajun mind you, I know spicy and this was perfect. I ordered the white rice with it and it was great too. It was a fragrant rice such as Basmati, went well with the curry sauce and lamb. The garlic Naan was good. I enjoyed it, but most at my table preferred the regular Naan that was also ordered mostly because it was cooked a little softer. I also tried some of the Chicken Masala others had ordered and it was very good as well. Everyone at our table was pleased with their order. Overall, the food was very good. I was surprised to find this place in Midland/Odessa. I will be coming back!

Going through the area working on a client project, I am tired of going to the chain restaurants and decided to try some Indian food for a change. From the glowing reviews this place has, I expected to be pleasantly surprised, but I was underwhelmed. Having grown up with authentic Indian food, I often struggle to find anything that is authentic in flavour or spiciness with the selections offered in most Indian restaurants, especially those with a buffet. I do not eat anything made from animal parts, so I cannot comment on the available non-vegetarian choices. The vegetable biryani was quite bland with the frozen vegetables mixed in being overcooked. The chana saag was also bland, but had a nice consistency. The zucchini masala needed more chilli, but at least was not overcooked. The dal makhani was just flavourless. Oddly enough, the jeera pulao rice was the best part of the meal. Hopefully someone is going to open another Indian restaurant that is not just confined to Punjabi-style food so local people can experience the other types of food available in India. For now, I would choose to go somewhere else.

I’ve eaten the lunch buffet here several times now. They typically have a selection of ~3 curry dishes with the butter chicken being my favorite as well as an assortment of vegetable dishes, rice, and condiments. The garlic naan bread is also fantastic. The staff is always quick to fill up your drink and clear away dishes. The only drawback to this place is its kind of strange setting in a dimly lit, probably former conference room in the Grand Texan Hotel. Then again I have to give the owners props for finding a way/space to make their business work and bring a little culinary diversity to West Texas. In the end the food is what matters and keeps the restaurant full of patrons. As many Midlanders are accustomed to saying — «For Midland… it’s pretty good.»

The food was hot when it came out. The chicken vindaloo I asked for was medium spice and made my nose run which is a good thing. The mango Lassi was good for cooling down the vindaloo. Recommend for anyone trying to get some cultural cuisine.

This is our favorite restaurant in midland odessa. We’ve been to a lot of Indian restaurants all over the u.s. so we have a lot to compare it to. We didn’t expect much when we first got there since it is located in a hotel and also serves Italian and American food but were pleasantly suprised with the quality of the naan bread, appetizers and entrees. Our favorite dishes are the lamb vindaloo(super tender pieces of lamb in a yummy cashew coconut sauce) and matar paneer(farmers cheese and peas in a tomato based sauce) with rice. It’s hard for us to order anything else because these are sooo good. The lunch buffet is OK but for the best experience I recommend ordering fresh entrees. They’re worth the wait and the price. After talking to the waiter we found out they actually brought in cooks from India about a year ago too. This place is legit. I highly recommend it.

Yet another west Texas gem, but this time we aren’t talking about rocks! On a road trip from the culinary desert that is San Angelo, we stumbled across this place on a Unilocal search. It is nestled in the lobby of a hotel/convention hall and tries to appease all palates with its Pizza/Italian/American and Indian menus. We went full Indian… Lamb Samosa Chaat, Mulligatawny, Chicken Sagwal, kabuli naan, chai and of course who can skip keer for dessert. Everything was delicious. The Sagwal was a pinch salty, but that could be because I am salt sensitive… but it was still fabulous. Lots of flavor; the hubby and I can’t say we didn’t get our cardamom fix for the day. :-) Highly recommend if you are in the area, stop in. They advertise a lunch buffet, but I think it’s just during the week to hit up all the oil peeps.

I refuse to call this place«Good, for the Permian Basin.» It’s an insult to the area(and to Indian food) to say that. Between Midland and Odessa there are over 200K people. There should be at least a few decent Indian restaurants(and Thai, Vietnamese, etc.) in the area. Unfortunately, this is all the Permian Basin has, and it is not a particularly good Indian restaurant. I came here recently for lunch and tried the buffet. To start with, they spelled raita incorrectly(«riata» according to their sign). I think one of the goals for an Indian restaurant in West Texas should be to educate people about Indian cuisine, and if you misspell the items on your buffet, you are not really educating them. The food wasn’t anything special either. They had a pretty good selection(although no samosas), but all of the food was really bland. Nothing was even the least bit spicy. Also, there was very little meat and mostly sauce in the meat dishes they had(this is a pretty standard practice though for Indian buffets, so I don’t fault them too much for this). On the plus side, the lamb curry was pretty good. Overall, this place was kind of a disappointment. Maybe one day the Permian Basin will have good Indian/Asian food. That day is not today though.
