I stayed at the Econolodge next store and was offered some coupons to this place. Bad decision. Not only did we wait 40 minutes for our food but it came out cold and bland. I ordered a create your own omelette and most of the ingredients tasted like they came from a can. Also we had to wait 15 minutes prior to getting seated even though there were many empty tables around. I would rather eat at the Sheetz down the road. At least the food comes out hot and much faster and dare i say fresher? Please heed my advice and stay away from this place.

HOW did this place get 3 stars? Every time I’ve been there I nearly vomited even when«playing it safe» with eggs or something that’s hard to screw up. *I’m used to old school Red’s Diner so that might tell you about the integrity of my stomach* Go here if you want to get sick or something otherwise steer WAY clear

This place was weird. It’s attached to a gas station which is in turn attached to a motel. I stayed at the motel when I was in town for a competition in Lewistown and boy was it a weird sight. But all things considered the breakfast was amazing. The steak and eggs were pretty good. The potatoes were appropriately crispy. The prices were good. I can’t think of a knock against this place given what they promised me, which was a good breakfast at decent prices.

I could have sworn this place was called«The Stop» but perhaps Stop 35 is the actual name. Either way, I can’t believe it has already been reviewed twice considering the location. After a conference at Penn State, my bf and I again found ourselves in Mifflintown for a late lunch when we couldn’t stand driving any longer and had to stop somewhere. Instead of going to the Family House Restaurant, where we stopped for dinner on the way up, we gambled with this place instead. Décor-wise, definitely preferable to Family House. Also, the staff was a hundred times friendlier. Unfortunately, the food at Family House had Stop 35 beat. I had a cup of clam chowder that could have been okay, if not for the random bits of hard boiled egg in it. I don’t mind the occasional hard boiled egg on a salad, but as a surprise in my soup? Uh-uh. For lunch, my turkey platter was enormous and fairly decent, but was drowning in gravy. Normally, I love some gravy. My grandmom even makes extra when she knows I’m coming for dinner. There was enough gravy on this one plate for my entire family’s Thanksgiving. Bottom line, with a combined average of 2.5 stars for the(only?) two restaurants in this town that I reviewed, I will probably try to pack some snacks on my next trip to Penn State and just eat when I get there.

I was here for breakfast today with my folks for the first time in a few years, and they have indeed renovated. The first reviewer put it very well – «they’ve upgraded from a dingy diner to a classier dingy diner.» Unlike S L., however, I cannot find much to recommend this place. The food is mediocre and the menu somewhat limited. I had a ham, egg, and cheese sandwich, and the toast was soggy and they used a fried egg instead of scrambled. My raisin toast was stale and flavorless. The service is gruff to indifferent. They also can’t keep the smoke from the«smoking section» out of the rest of the restaurant. So until Pennsylvania decides to join the 21st century and ban smoking indoors, be prepared for a side of choke, cough, gag with your underwhelming meal at Stop 35.

This place gets extra points because it’s been one of my favorite hometown hangouts since I was young. It’s changed quite a bit over the years as they’ve updated from a dingy diner to a classier dingy diner. It’s like a truck stop on steroids with booths, bar stools, banquet rooms, etc. The thing that keeps me coming back is the great home style food. My meal of choice for years was a grilled cheese sandwich and a chocolate milk. I’ve since upgraded, to a cup of potato soup(which is almost as good as my mother’s) and added on any of the standard small town favorites: pizza burger, french fries with gravy, and so on. Their prices are great, the service leaves a little to be desired, but it’s open 24⁄7 so you can always drop in for coffee and conversation.
