With 600 people invited and an estimated 450 that we expected would actually come (and did), our wedding was massive! In Milwaukee, there aren’t many places to choose from that are both gorgeous and accommodating to an audience that size unless you are in a large church or cathedral. My now-​husband and I wanted the feel of a church, but being from Maryland, didn’t have a church home in my hometown of Milwaukee. After checking out countless places in the city on a trip back home, we visited the Humphrey Scottish Rite Masonic Center and met with Sandra Wolfe, the wedding coordinator onsite and a very lively spirit if I ever met one. She took great pride in the history of the building and the facilities and showed us two rooms in which our ceremony could be held, but when we saw the auditorium, we knew this was where we would say «I do.»
It was the most beautiful venue we could have ever picked, with stadium seating and velvet chairs, which wood, a giant stage, a large cathedral backdrop, and an alter. Sandra told us that we could add up to 100 chairs on the floor (which we did) and recommended that we rent candelabras for the aisle. There wasn’t a window to be had in the room, which made the spotlights all the more dramatic. When I say that the room was breath-​taking on the day of our wedding, I mean it. Our guests RAVED and our photos prove it. FANTASTIC.
We would have had our rehearsal downstairs in the Mahogany Room, but it was not big enough to fit our entire guest list (it only sat 325 tops — large, but not large enough in our case). We were quite disappointed too since our wedding was in March and we wanted to have the ceremony and reception in one space if possible. We were further disappointed because we found out that fact after tasting Chef Chuck’s FABULOUS menu sample. We had a brunch reception and were very specific about what we wanted and Chef Chuck made it to perfection. Although we had to have our reception at a different location in the end, we made a point to have our rehearsal dinner in the Mahogany Room with Chef Chuck as our chef. We were going to get him anyway we could.
I cannot recommend Sandra, Chef Chuck, or the Humphrey Scottish Rite Masonic Center enough. They left nothing to be desired. Sandra even referred us to THE perfect officiant who we ultimately wound up hiring. The space was affordable, the per person cost of the delicious food was affordable, and the service was top notch. The Humphrey Scottish Rite Masonic Center and its staff were a blessing to us and I can’t thank them enough.
