The buffet has a large selection of various Indian foods. Lots of choices! Everyone in our party had an excellent time and the cost, for 5 people with drinks, was in the $ 50 range. The buffet had many options. Do not let the different colors of the food fool you, something that may look sweet could be, and probably is, sour or tart and vice versa.

Mayura offers the best Indian food in town. Period. For some reason, Maharaja is more famous that Mayura. But the food served at Mayura is much better. The breads(naan, parathas) are something that you should try for sure. Amongst the dishes, my favorites are chicken tikka masala, kadai paneer, lamb shahi korma and the badami kulfi.

Service is poor and food is bland. Maharaja remains my favorite spot for Indian on the East Side.

Their $ 6 lunch boxes are the way to go. Perfect amount of food. Otherwise, they’re a bit pricy and the service isn’t fantastic despite it mostly being empty.

Descriptive phrase: good-but-not-great Indian sit-down. Mayura is yet another Indian restaurant on the increasingly-ethnic Farwell/Brady cross. We came here for dinner on a weeknight and easily found parking on Farwell right outside. The interior is a bit sparse, with a bar up front and an L shaped seating area. The walls have chipped paint barely covered by a few pictures, and the tables feature both cloth and paper napkins(as well as birthday confetti under the table-top glass?). However, the servers make up for the décor. We were greeted when we entered and thanked when we left. They were prompt and friendly, coming to refill water when needed but otherwise not bugging us. Very nice. We ordered Garlic Naan($ 3.70), Gosht Vindaloo($ 14.77), and Shahi Paneer($ 12.65). The waiter first brought out some complimentary crispy bread(chapati?) and a brown and a green sauce. Only two pieces of the bread, but I wasn’t a huge fan any way. The Naan came out with the two main dishes. The four pieces of Naan were plenty, and it was very tasty(and garlic-y) for just being bread. Went well dipped in my Gosht sauce. Katie enjoyed her Shahi(cheese chunks in a tomato-y sauce). The dishes were served with a side of rice, and were large enough to take a bit home afterwards. I ordered the Gosht because there aren’t many places I’ve seen with goat. The goat was still on the bones, cooked in a spicy broth with green peppers and onions. It was tasty, and even having the dish«medium» gave it a kick. My main complaint was about the tiny little bones that would sometimes get lost in the meat. Beware. Overall it was a good dining experience. I’d order something besides goat next time. To be honest, though, I probably won’t return to Mayura. There are better choices nearby.

I would give Mayura a solid 2.5 out of 5 stars. I got this food to go, so I am not factoring in atmosphere or service in my opinion. It was a little more expensive than I presumed, and I figured out why when I got home — the man asked me how many Naan I wanted and I said 4, so instead of the four pieces I got four ORDERS of bread. Normally I am not crazy about Naan, but this was great! It was the perfect combination of chewy and soft, plus it had great seasonings. I also got the butter chicken, the palak paneer, and another kind of cold paneer that had no sauce. It came with two sides of rice and three sauces. The butter chicken was great. The sauce had an awesome mix of savory and sweet and spicy. It was literally buttery. Unfortunately I bit into a KNUCKLE of the chicken. A huge bone. Like… huge. I had to spit out my entire mouthful and didn’t eat it anymore after that. I had never had paneer before, but the desription sounded great. I didn’t care for it at all. This wasn’t something that Mayura did wrong, it was simply me not enjoying the texture and lack of flavor. They had a green cilantro/lime sauce that was awesome, I almost cried when my dog’s tail knocked it over :( Overall the chicken and naan were great, but the bone left me a little grossed out.

DISCLAIMER: this is only for the lunch box special, which admittedly for $ 6 your expectations should probably not be super high, but it was kind of a waste of $ 6. the chicken tikka masala was edible but kind of tasteless, and the vegetable curry was a sort of unrecognizable mush; the rice tasted sort of stale and even the chutneys tasted a bit off(the naan and the pakora were good, though). the gentleman who got my order together was extremely nice and quick, and the restaurant seemed quite clean and pleasant; i wouldn’t be averse to returning to try the lunch buffet or dinner. but in my(limited) experience, the lunch box isn’t worth its bargain price; café india in walker’s point is probably the place to go for that.

Food is generally good. Went on a Sunday and the service was horrible. We were the only one in the restaurant and they still couldn’t manage to stop by every once in a while to check on us.

went for lunch buffet today. not even a single item was good. All the chicken dishes had a bad smell, coming from the bird, as if rotten chicken or stale chicken was used to prepare those dishes. Very bad experience, will never go there again.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: You go to Jow Nai Fouquet for some thai and when you arrive there is a wait. You are lucky if you can even get the server to look at you, needlessly acknowledge that you are in need of a table whence one opens up. so you stand in the tiny doorway, sammiched between other people wondering where you should go instead.(do it… just leave and walk down the street to Mayura Indian Restaurant. You didn’t want Thai anyway, did you. That’s what I did… and that… that has made all the difference. My friend and I had never been here before and looked forward to taking some risk on ordering things we really didn’t know what we were getting. the server was very helpful on making suggestions to us. i wanted lamb, and he wanted something with chicken… both of our desires were met. Along with a fun little appetizer that i don’t know or remember what it was. I love indian food, but usually do the buffet when you can just sample a bit of this and a bit of that. it appears that they have a nice lunch buffet, of which i can’t wait to take advantage of in the near future. I wasn’t blown away, hance the three stars. But, my next visit will likely yield and increase of star.

(Note: I do not know much about Indian food). I went there with a big group of my friends after deciding not to wait 30 minutes for Comet Café. The atmosphere is really nice and they let us pay separately(a major deal for a big group of like ten people!). The food was pretty good, although I only got the basic Chicken Tiki Masala(~$ 14) with shared some of their special naan. Everyone else seemed pretty satisfied with their food too. We sat in the back where they had a projection of Bollywood music videos going on the back wall, which was quite entertaining to figure out. The service there was excellent and they kept refilling our glasses with water quickly. I would definitely go there again as it wasn’t super full of people at 8pm and the atmosphere is less formal than Maharaja.

Two points to start with: **I only know the basics of Indian food. **most importantly, we forgot to buy the groupon but still came here and paid full price(trust me, this speaks volumes about a place). So this part of farwell is getting pretty full of little ethnic restaurants. The décor is slightly Indian but nothing over the top. We sprung for the lunch buffet which I thought looked awesome and at $ 9.99 was a good deal. They also had a full menu, Indian beer and wine(and a full bar) as well is exotic nonalcoholic drinks like mango lassi etc. The buffet was delicious. The samosas were delicious as were a variety of other fried type Indian foods I sampled. I tried some sort of goat stew and really enjoyed it. There were different rices and naan bread to sop up some of the different sauces(again, not an Indian food expert so not sure you are supposed to do this…) They had sauces and condiments(mint chutney which my fellow diner kept referring to as Indian salsa) The staff were all very friendly and efficient. My tastebuds are pretty veteran so it takes a lot of heat for me to call a places food overly spicy. I instead like to judge the food by how much my dining companion’s head sweats. This place was a medium by the looks of things. Well done!

BLWN and I love Indian buffets but the Groupon that was burning a hole in our e-pocket didn’t have time fuhdat(drats). We decided to take the little guy and grab a couple bowls of slop(an endearing term, really) for dinner on a weeknight. We ordered the Indian basics(Indian chardonnay, garlic nan, veggie samosas, and two dinner dishes). After 25 minutes of ordering, the couple next to us was brought our samosas, the food sat at their table for about 7 minutes, the guy came and took them back. We then were brought our samosas about 4 minutes later. Now being about 35 minutes into sitting at the table, our main course arrived. We ordered butter chicken, but were brought chicken tika masala. Considering the time, we weren’t about to send it back. The other veggie paneer dish we ordered was ok. Not very prompt with the waters by any means. Wont be back for regular dinner. Might try the buffet at a later date(at this point, water refills might account for a full star and the gulab jamun another). There were no pictures of Dev Patel on the wall nor was Brimful of Asha playing overhead. Take that for what you will. Still searching for the Indian Texas Roadhouse restaurant where Bollywood dance breaks out mid-dinner. Venture capitalists, PM me if interested.

Best Indian Food in Milwaukee! I prefer Mayura over the other one down the street. The place is usually dead and the service isn’t the best in timeliness but food speaks for itself. The quality of the food is second to none. It is moderately priced and quick.

Very nice staff and the food is very good. I’ve only had Indian food a few times, so being able to choose mild, medium or hot for entrees is helpful. Medium was not too spicy. Bollywood movies playing in the dinning room/bar add something special to the atmosphere.

Admittedly, I’m not expert on Indian cuisine; however, I DO know a great restaurant when I’m in one. Mayura has it all: a clean, welcoming dining room, an extensive menu and the service to help navigate its many choices. For the adventurous eater, every trip to Mayura offers something different and unique. Can’t wait to try the buffet.

We did carry out from Mayura last night. I had a hankering for Indian food. We ordered roti naan(plain, oven baked), my boyfriend got the lamb vindaloo, and I ordered the shahi paneer. The Roti Naan was yummy, a little charred, but still a bit puffed up. The sauce that came with it was good too. My shahi paneer was incredible. I overate because it tasted great. Boyfriend said vindaloo was yummy, but super hot, mouth on fire. Incredibly delicious, earning all 4 stars. Definitely better than last visit(last time I got the vegetable korma, which was just okay).

Don’t take a date… unless you have been dating/married for ATLEAST5 years. I have been to trillions of Indian buffets all over the globe, and if there is one thing I do well, it is eating, so heed my warning: I suggest only going for the lunch buffet. Like most Indian restaurants in the area, the dinner is way over priced. And I will repeat: I strongly suggest NOT taking a date there to dinner. ESPECIALLY a first date. Here’s why: First, it is overpriced. For twice the price of the lunch buffet you get the same thing… only half as much. But that doesn’t apply to the date. Well… it kind of does since you will be paying for two. Second: Unless you are some schmuk trying to show that special girl how«worldy» and«open minded» you are by introducing her to Indian cuisine… DONOT take her here. You will be left burping up Indian-stink all night and with a belly rumbling full of spicy Indian curry. Good luck, man. As for the lunch buffet, I STRONGLY recommend it. Just remember… for the lunch buffet, the fare changes daily. If you go one day and do not like what you see, I encourage you to try it again. Some days you get favorites like Samosas and Gulab Jamen(I usually eat about 30 – 40 of those tasty little balls!). Other days, you get what looks like wonder bread sandwiches and that cabbage/eggplant dish that nobody ever touches. The normal favorites are almost always there: tiki masal, naan, etc. Just remember, don’t go to the Indian buffet before you workout. Trust me on this. Finally, the true measure of a good Indian Buffet: How fast they refill your water glass. These guys are good. When my mouth is scorching from my EIGHTH plate of tiki masala, I need to wash it down. I don’t think I have ever been left with an empty glass, and I have been back roughly 4 million times. Additonally, they will bring out the naan to you if there is none on the buffet. And we all know how good Naan is. So give it a try. I gave it slightly higher than 3 stars due to the good service I have received on multiple occaisions. The food itself is about what you would expect from an Indian buffet.
