This is really good pizza. Thin crusted and flavorful, it’s the best New York style pizza we’ve found in Wisconsin(not that we’ve scoured the state or anything). They’re apparently owned by relatives of the owners of the late, great Casa Bianca in Madison, may it rest in peace. The pizza can be a bit greasy(it’s pizza, not tofu), but the employees are friendly and helpful, and the storefront is charming in its own way. Parking can be annoying, but that might just be because I’m not used to big cities. They close down for a week or two each summer, while the owners go on vacation to Italy or something. So, make sure you call to make sure they’re open if you’re heading over between June and August.

Sal’s jumbo slice! Inebriated or sober, it’s great! Some of the best pizza outside of Chicago, you have to have it when you’re in the area!

At the Hilton for the weekend and order a large pizza for delivery. Pizza was excellent. Delivery was super fast and pizza was hot. Crust reminded me of a NY style pizza with a tough crust. Loved it! I will say the large was large.

Great Za! So glad I found it! Friday pizza night is going to be so much better now that we found Sal’s! The stuffed pizza with pepperoni, sausage & ricotta is my new fave

The pizza is very thin and greasy. It taste resembles cardboard. For the amount of food you get the cost is too much. I honestly would rather eat at Papa Johns. More pizza for just a few more dollars.

Affordable, delicious, and unpretentious NYC style pizza. I was skeptical at first of finding great pizza in Milwaukee, but was pleasantly surprised. Delicious doughy crust(but not too doughy), just the right amount of cheese, and lots of flavor in the sauce. Buffalo wings were above average as well. My only complaint… come on, Sal’s…you knew you were delivering to a hotel, why didn’t you throw in some plates and napkins? Guess I should have asked, but seems like common sense to me!

Always looking for a great nondescript pizza joint that falls between the cracks of big pizza chains and well known historic pizza joints like balistreris… Well sals was a great surprise. Pizza was great but I especially loved their Italian beef. I ate most of my boyfriends and left him with the butt of the sandwich. ;)

Stopped in Sal’s for a quick bite after a tour of the Pabst Mansion. Pizza tasted like it was day old… nothing great about it. Our family of 4 had slices of pizza, garlic knots, toasted ravioli, onion rings and 4 drinks; came to $ 37.03. Not too bad but we gave them $ 40.00 and they did not have $.97 cents change in the register so asked us if we had the 3 pennies. We had to dig around for 3 pennies!!! We figured after spending that much money in their establishment, they could have fronted the 3 pennies… nope… they stood there and waited till we found it. Sad customer service when you can’t even spare 3 cents for a customer on a $ 37 dollar tab… The staff; unpersonable. Would not go back.

I decided to randomly stop by Sal’s since I was craving pizza and was in the neighborhood. I also wanted to try some place new so I figured I’d give it a go. It was on a Sunday so the place was almost empty except for two people dining in. I order one pepperoni slice to go. It was pretty big and it sure hit the spot! The crust was good and soft. Also, it was super greasy and cheesy, which I had no problem with. The only negative was it being a little too salty. I’m guessing it was probably the cheese. Other than that I did enjoy the pizza. Will I try it again? Yes! but I wouldn’t go out of my way to do so.

Great little pizza place. It has a wide variety that tastes quite good. Personally I’m a huge fan of the little buns they give with each slice. I’d recommend the mac n cheese pizza, which taste a lot better than it sounds!

We stopped by Sal’s pizza after taking a tour of the Pabst Mansion. The pizza was very heavy, but good! It has a thin, crisp crust(similar to NY style) and a LOT of cheese. The pizza slices come with a fluffy garlic roll, which is a nice touch. Oh, and the slices are huge! I was only able to finish half of my slice and took the rest home, since it was so heavy and large. The pizza was good and it was a good stop after touring the Pabst Mansion. However, I don’t think we’ll go out of our way to go here. I think the pizza would be even better after a night of drinking! It makes sense it is near a college, it’s the typical college pizza place.

I am ADDICTED to Sal’s bacon cheeseburger pizza. It’s brilliant. Thin, crispy crust, large pieces of hamburger meat, bacon, and a blend of american and italian cheeses. When I first saw this option at a staff dinner, I kind of turned my nose up at it, but then I saw the way it disappeared out of the box at lightning speed. The next time I was offered it, I dug in. Man-oh-man. It is amazing. Side note: definitely keep a roll of paper towels handy if you’re a grease-blotter like me. You’ll easily go through five or six.

Sal’s pizza boxes read«Thank You, from Your Favorite Pizza Shop.» While Sal’s is not my favorite, nor the best in Milwaukee, I have to admit that is a gutsy statement to have printed on your containers. I almost always forget about Sal’s even though it sits mere blocks from my humble domicile. Perhaps that is because it’s closed during the summer months and due to the location(at the western edge of the Marquette campus) the client base suffers a considerable drop from mid-May to early August. I’ve never ordered for delivery since I am close enough to pick up, so this review will focus solely on pick-up. That said, every pie and calzone here is made by hand and prepared with the utmost care; extra grease included. The standard fare includes Cheese, Pepperoni, Sausage, Veggie, and several stuffed varieties. For the more adventurous(or just really hungry) you can stuff your face with Chicken Parmesan, Spinach Feta, or Buffalo Chicken(among others). On a recent visit, I took two slices to go(Pepperoni Bacon + Chicken Parm) — and killed them both even though I wasn’t that famished! If you’re lucky, the staff will throw in some of the delicious garlic knots(basically end pieces and leftover dough knotted together with a dash of garlic butter) to share. Have I mentioned the staff is great? They are downright hilarious, while also being incredibly welcoming and helpful. They also don’t take any crap from crunk college kids — I’ve been in on a night where the owner has escorted rowdy(read: fisticuffs causing) kids out while simultaneously dialing the folks in blue… just to let them know they’re serious about keeping out the riffraff, and I’ve also been there to see the workers bantering back and forth with the slightly inebriated(or just really hungry). While I always seem to forget about Sal’s, it hits the spot when I don’t want to wait for delivery or stand in line at Riverfront or Transfer. Heck, I’ve even walked/slid to Sal’s in ice and snow for a late night pizza fix! Not as great as the aforementioned Riverfront, Transfer, or even Classic Slice, but still a tasty bite by the slice if you’re often awake after midnight and craving something quick or find yourself in the Avenues West neighborhood of Milwaukee. A solid effort on all parts!

I stumbled upon Sal’s never having heard anything about it before. From my single slice order, I’d immediately put this establishment in the Top 5 pizza parlors in the city. The slice I ordered was the size of my head. It weighed about 2 pounds, and it was just brimming with cheese and all the supreme fixins. The mozz was gooey and tasty and also very fresh. The other ingredients were perfectly balanced, but the star of the show was the pepperoni; an absolutely perfectly seasoned cut of meat. I was delightfully full for the rest of the day from that one slice. Man, I gotta get back to Sal’s!

If you’re looking for ambiance, this probably isn’t the place for you. If you’re looking for good, pizza, though, you certainly can get that here. You can get a good meal for under $ 10, and, if you’re in a rush, the food is generally ready in about five minutes, unless you’re ordering a whole pizza. All in all, if you’re looking for pizza, this is a great place to get it.

Sal’s is wonderful, period. The pizza is awesome, and they have a huge variety. They are pretty quick also. The people are what sets this place apart. My boyfriend used to drive delivery for them, but had to quit when he found out he had brain cancer, and they continued to treat him like an employee or even a family member, offering free garlic knots all the time and giving him a break on other stuff now and then, which they so did not have to do! The pricing for Sal’s is higher than Dominoe’s or Papa John’s, but comparable to Angelo’s Pizza on 16th and Wells. However, the pizzas are HUGE so you get what you pay for. And did I mention they are delicious? There is some space to eat in-store, and the décor scheme is fun. Eat-in, take-out, or delivery, Sals is the way to go on the MU campus for pizza, hands down.

Sal’s is probably the best thing to happen to MU’s campus in a while. Their pizza is fucking DELICIOUS– especially if you love NY style, big, thin, super greasy pizza. Their service is great, they’re quite friendly :) They have a bunch of different types of pizzas to choose from, from regular cheese to different meats to spinach-feta stuffed. And one of the best things about them is the garlic rolls(«knots») that comes with your slice(or whole) pizza! FANTASTIC!
