As with all George Webbs, this one has a high turnover of workers so service quality is a little unpredictable, I’ve generally gotten adequate service here. It’s an archetypal greasy spoon diner, and yet a uniquely Milwaukee experience. I bring out of town visitors here after eating dinner at either Lake Park Bistro, Chez Jacques, or the Mason Street Grill, just to show them the extremes in terms of class. If you want an old fashioned unhealthy American breakfast with a bottomless not-gourmet cup of coffee with a hint of danger, this is your place. Don’t wear your pearls here.

I am very ashamed of this place I was informed by the corporate office that this is a franchise store so apparently they can get away with whatever they want to do to their customers well even though its lengthy this is what I wrote to the corporate office and I have contacted them twice already and they haven’t even cared to get back to me. I just had an altercation at one of your stores and I apologize for profanity that I write but I want to be truthful about the altercation I have had one of the toughest weeks anyone should have I had to bury my mother today goto and you can see the obituary her name was Joyce Domack my info later states im the son. the server david table 17 was not the most attentive or friendly server I had 4 guests that was including my self I understand the payment after a certain time with the order and even the gratuity added but it promotes horrible service which I had tonight we received our drink not a big problem yet 3 of my party had fountain sodas my fiancée had a sprecher did not use her cup so I placed it on the table next to us after the server brought some of items the chili and my appetizer basket he had asked if I needed the rootbeer mug and we had said no so he took it at this time my fountain drink cup was empty and was placed on my table to the side hoping to get a refill which did not happen he went about other business in the restaurant cleaning up another table that had left I finished my appetizer basket and still had not received a refill the rest of the food came to our table except for my French fries there was a mistake with one of the plates that they delivered to the table so they took the plate back and fixed it when david returned with the plate I asked for a refill I said no ice sierra mist he said okay took my glass and left the table at this time another couple walked in the store he apparently took there soda order I noticed him by the fountain and thought oh goody I am getting my refill I can ask where my fries were but no he took 2 glasses of soda to the new couple sitting down and preceeded to take there order when I raised my voice and asked if I can get some service that was not so shi**y because I had asked for a soda refill and did not get my whole order and he is proceeding to take other orders I may have been out a line a bit but my emotions were boiling up from the last week and finally having the burial of my mother today when he was telling me that I was wrong and that I did not ask for a soda and that he knew what was the truth and that I was wrong and profanities were spoken both directions between him and I and he told me to f**k myself which is when I proceeded towards him very angrily and got into his face and asked him how he would like to have to bury his mother and that he needs to care more about his job before he looses it when he decides to punch me against the chest with both of his hands to this point I was only verbally agitated and physically intimidating towards him my intentions was not to lay hands on him until he so did first luckily my cousins and fiancée were able to subdue me otherwise you would have had a dead employee on the floor of your restaurant. I do want an apology from the employee or I will do anything that I can to publish that your restaurant supports the right for its employees to abuse their customers in anyway they see fit after the automatically get payment and gratuity before service and items are provided. I expect to hear from you about this. I will never give anything positive about George web due to the mistreatment of their customers from the franchise to the corporate level seeing that corporate has not even tried to make this situation right.

It’s George Webb. When I was a kid there were so many of these all over the city. I drove around Milwaukee with some retired old codgers recently and they pointed out many more former GW locations from the days after WWII. I imagine Tom Waits is somewhere out there sitting in a booth at a place like George Webb having coffee and eggs with Iggy Pop and being served by Bill Murray. Yeah, that’s about right. Ok, the food is simple all American diner fare. They have sugar in a jar to pour and I’ve never seen the raw, blue, yellow, or pink packets here. Agave? What? I always loved the oddballs and silly real conversations you hear at Webb’s and I heard some funny ones at this location too. Milwaukee used to be a city where beer was brewed, leather was tanned, schnitzel was fried, and Webb’s was open round the clock. Glad there are still a few locations of this Milwaukee original out there. It ain’t the Ritz, but it will do «dere for ya!»
