I know the name sounds odd but the food is good and the staff are great. The chow mein(lo mein) is probably the best I have ever had. The portions are good size and come with soup or salad. Everything is reasonably priced, including the alcohol. For the grilled items, they do throw a piece of mesquite wood on the gas flames. If you are expecting a 2″ thick steak, it isn’t going to happen here. Don’t get me wrong, my mom always orders a steak… and she loves good steak. For a casual meal that is really good and you are in Milwaukie… this is the place!

It was pretty empty on a Tuesday night around 8. The waitress was very fun to talk to and kept a good eye on how me my buddy were doing throughout the evening. I ordered the chicken fried rice and a side of fried shrimp. The portion was quite impressive and there was almost no way i could have ate the whole thing even on an empty stomach, which is wonderful. I never had to ask for more water or beer. Overall the flavor was certainly awesome and I would definitely eat there again.

Ok, so if you are coming here for steak & ribs –well, I can say that isn’t why we come here. We come here for their beautiful BBQ pork, sweet & sour chicken, bbq pork rice & chow mein. I crave their won ton soup when I am sick(although it is HUGE and must be consumed by 2). Yeah, yeah. I know, we should branch out(especially since we’ve been coming here for 10+ years). That being said, my husband and I love this place when we have a hankering for Chinese. This is the best Chinese restaurant in Milwaukie/Oak Grove/Gladstone/OC in our opinion. The bartenders are always awesome and everyone that has helped us is friendly and accommodating. Many times we will call in our order or stop in on our way home after work, have a drink & take our order home where we can completely pig out on the awesomeness of Chan’s. Regardless of how we obtain it, it is always Chan’s(although everyone can have an off night which I ant say that we haven’t m). Tip: if you eat in the restaurant, get the sweet & sour on the side. Also, be sure to get the hot mustard… oohh so bad it is good.

Worst Chinese food ever! No flavor, no substance. I ordered vegetable chow mein and it was a greasy pile of noodles with a piece of vegetable on top. That’s it, one vegetable! I’m guessing that the good reviews are from drunks because the bartenders pour heavy. The ONLY reason to come here is the karaōke… if you’re into that sort of thing. Overall, it’s a dimly lit space filled with people of the same description.

We were in the mood for Italian this evening and drove the route twice to no avail. When we came to the Chan’s Steakery, we had had enough looking as hunger took over. We stopped in for a dinner of who knew what. The place was very clean, well lite and we were greeted shortly. We were impressed by out waiter, who was just learning English. I need to locate his teacher and give them accolades, as he never once said«no problem»(that just pisses me off to no end)! My bride ordered the chopped sirloin and I ordered the scallops dinner. Both meals come with choice of soup or salad, and baked potato, fried rice, chow mein or french fries. The wife enjoyed her dinner and I loved mine. It’s not often that you find the right«doneness» with an order of scallops, but the cook here is a master of timing, the scallops were succulent. Don’t bother using the nice tartar sauce furnished with these gems. With my meal I ordered the fried rice. The meal arrived with a generous portion of al dente’ broccoli and«fancy cut» carrots side of the menu. We will return for Chinese food at a later date, and maybe I’ll just enjoy the scallops again instead!

Chan’s is the spot to go to get away from the world Stiff Drinks, great beer selection, and some good karaōke seven nights a week. The second you walk in you will know if you are a Chan’s person or not, and that’s the true beauty. And don’t order a Blended Drink… just don’t

Mixed bag, this one. I was drawn in by the ghetto fabulous silk screen banner outside, visible from McGloughlin, promising Mesquite bbq/grilling on purty-near EVERYTHING. That seemed like a pretty bombastic boast and — given that it is a Chinese American joint— highly unusual. Only problem was, i didn’t detect one single molecule of savory Mesquite in any of our large recent orders to this place— nor could I detect any of that heavenly boquet permeating the senses w/in the restaurant proper. If there be smoke, it’s a good bet that it is completely of the liquid, chemical variety. Only my mixed veggies managed to taste like they had been bbq-style-smoked, strangely enough. The steaks I’ve tried there, so far, have been tasty(I’ve had the New York Strip, and the hamburger steak, w/gravy) but obviously pan-fried and NOT in a Traeger-style oven w/mesquite. Also, although they offered salt and pepper squid, a personal favorite, I found the portion size sadly lacking at the price point(17 buckaroos), and not in the same vicinity of the Super Heavyweight Champion of s n p squid, over there on NE Sandy… Chan’s Steakery. You can most certainly do better. Only question is: Will you?

I had decided to give this place a chance since all eateries deserve one. The reviews had me believing that this place would be decent. I was surprised that at the lunch hour it was dead when I arrived. My boyfriend and I were the only guests the entire time we were there. I was impressed with my boyfriends meal, the soup, and the crab puffs I ordered. But when the New York steak I ordered arrived, I at first enjoyed it although they cooked it in a strange sauce. But as I was eating it, I found a strange colored area on one end of the steak and now I am worried and waiting to see if the meat was actually good. The service was excellent, they deserve at least four stars, but the problem with my steak made me drop it.

Chans is a number 1 spot for karaōke and a great time! The service is great, the atmosphere is fun and the patrons are friendly. I cant think of a better karaōke bar to go to with my friends on a Saturday night. Stiff drinks, good prices and a delicious menu!

The best bar in the world. National class karaōke. Great drinks. Bar tenders that know what they’re doing«Tanya and Ronnie» and the most fun and pleasant atmosphere you’ll ever experience. I strongly recommend this bar to two groups; karaōke lovers and drinkers. Don’t cone to my favorite bar if you’re not fun and pleasant.

My one star is for the waiter, he was friendly and accommodating unfortunately for me it all went down hill after his warm greeting. My meal was not edible the baked potatoe was not fresh nor was my t-bone steak. I hadn’t ate all day and was hungry so I decided to suffer through the potatoe, because I couldn’t even get down 2 bites of my steak, it tasted as though it had been previously cooked and re-cooked, I ord it med and it was way past well. two hours later i was sick for the next 36 hours. NEVERAGAIN ! Im certain they have not a clue as to what a steak to order is suppose to be like, my advise to them is… Clean or buy new carpet and stick to asian cuisine…

Everybody knows every body. Seems to be a slightly older crowd but it’s obvious they are regulars. We were made to feel welcome and the food was good. Next up. Next door for some karaōke!

This place really promotes the karaōke clientele. Instead of relegating them to the after 9pm slot to not risk driving offer other patrons, this place provides karaōke seven days a week starting at 7pm! Dj’s and bartenders are friendly as well.

Delicious and affordable happy hours are rare these days, so glad we stumbled on Chans Steakery on Unilocal! Need to share my findings with my fellow Unilocalers: Happy Hours daily: 4−7pm food and drinks($ 2.95−6.50) karaōke every nite! Chinese food soo good! we also ordered a hamburger with fries too:)) I so recommend this place, you wont be disappointed.

Past reviewers are tossing the word«great» around incredibly lightly. I found my meal to be absolutely nauseating. By the looks of the plates of the other 75% senior citizen clientele, this restaurant seems to be the alternative to Hometown Buffet. To make matters worse, I asked to substitute onion rings as a side and the cook barked at the server in a foreign language before she came to inform me it would be $ 1.00 extra. When I said«never mind, cancel the substitution», he barked at her again and she returned to tell me he had already prepared the rings so this time they would not charge me. I hate that sort of nonsense. It’s a transparent attempt to gouge the customer until the financial tables turn in my favor. Then it’s considered a donation. Anyway, back to what really matters. The food sucked. The atmosphere could easily have been overlooked had any redeeming culinary qualities existed in my meal. Chan’s may have karaōke and a full bar but the other 80% of their square footage dedicated to serving food is wasted space.

Solid four star dive. The service here is always really good. They have a nice beer selection and the karaōke is lively. I have always enjoyed the food here too. Some of the best steaks at a Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten. Oh my the clientele. you’ll have to see it to believe it. Its better than the zoo I can assure you. Come for the beer and stay for the ridiculous show that always ensues. Such fun

Always a good time in the bar at Chans for skaraoke. The downside is that’s its always a good time so be prepared to be entertained by others as you will probably not be singing much. The last time I went it was so packed and between that and the revolving door of people that were coming in as people left, I only sang one time. Once the entire night. Sad. Food is your typically Americanized fair with huge portions and good drink specials as well.
