I scheduled an appointment to have allergy testing done. There have been multiple instances where I have consumed something that by body reacts to, making my upper body red and blotchy, in addition to my chest getting tight and having a difficult time breathing, and my head feeling fuzzy. I haven’t nailed it down, as to what makes me react, which is my reasoning for wanting an allergy test. After telling Dr. Philip Halverson about my symptoms and experiences, he decided that I am not experiencing enough of a reaction and I am free to continue testing my reactions on my own. He even suggesting that I keep a log of what I eat and react to, how nice?! Oh, my head feeling fuzzy, my difficulty breathing, and my entire upper body becoming red and blotchy isn’t enough of a reaction? This is by far the most frustrating experience I have ever had, dealing with a medical professional! Not to mention, the whole 15 minutes I got to spend with Dr. Halverson cost me $ 40 co-pay AND $ 190 appointment bill! So not only was it a huge waste of time and money, but I am back at square one with having to spend more money and time to get an actual opinion. I am not even going to call it a second opinion, because the first wasn’t even that, it was ignorance. I can honestly say that I will never be back and I will try my best to persuade everyone to go elsewhere.

One star seems too generous based on my experience. I had an appointment with Dr. Bradford to get tested for food allergies. I checked in, a nurse took my vitals and put me in an exam room — where I sat for the next 35 minutes. I finally went to find someone, saw the same nurse and asked if anyone was coming in to see me since it’d been 35 minutes. She was talking with two others and said it’d be a few more minutes. About 5 later, the doctor FINALLY shows up. He asks how I was. Wrong question. I said I was annoyed at having to wait so long. He apologized and said he had an emergency case to take care of and that’s why he was late. Fine, but why couldn’t one of the staff stuck their head in and told me that? After the consult, the tech comes in to prep my skin, 15 minutes the doctor comes back in and says nothing reacted. At the end, he said I could go home and eat what I want. Nice. But he did offer to suggest a histamine. I didn’t go there for an over-the-counter recommendation; I wanted to find out what’s wrong. This visit was a waste of perfectly good $ 45 co-pay. Not to mention the $ 9 spent on parking. I’m back to square one; I still have zero idea of what’s wrong, but I do know I won’t ever visit this clinic again.

If you’re in need of an allergy doc I would recommend the allergy and asthma specialists. I’ve been seeing them for almost a year and they have helped my puppy dog allergies immensely. I see Dr. Berman and while he’s a little dry I think he does a good job and all the nurses I’ve seen have been very friendly. They explain what they’re doing, the scratch test was pretty painless and I never have to wait long in the waiting room. I go to the office in the medical arts building in downtown Minneapolis which can be inconvenient if you don’t work downtown but I believe they have a office in the burbs somewhere as well. Thumbs up for these docs!
