So, wait. Nobody’s reviewed Augie’s yet??? WIMPS*!!! Augie’s is great. Every time I’ve been here, it’s been all kind of adventures. The first time i stumbled in here with a friend after a wild night downtown and the entire room was standing room only. My friend said something to the effect of that this was the greatest view in the city since the stage is(appropriately) elevated. One time I was here, a man was being led around the club with a bit in his mouth like he was a horse.(Hey, I don’t ask questions or judge…) Another time Waka Flocka was there shooting a video with MN Fats. I also brought a date here once when we dared each other to come up with something interesting to do. But, the piece de resistance of this club(ahem, cabaret) is the reality show that the owner, Brian, tried to make a few years ago. A reality show about strippers and all the drama that goes into owning a strip club. It was trashy TV at its BEST. I’m still wondering why this didn’t get picked up… *I chose this word carefully. :)

I had always pictured this place as way bigger than it is. There’s a $ 5 cover, and when you go in, there’s a bar with maybe 12 seats, a stage with 8, and a half dozen tables. The dancers were all black, mostly thin with no fake boobs in sight(thank god). I’m a fan of more robust women, so this was a let-down for me. They have a full bar, but the beer selection is limited — apparently downtown you should be ordering cocktails, even in a dive-y strip club. Still, the dancers were friendly and only mildly pushy. The tip expectation is lower than I’m used to; there were several guys tipping $ 1 or $ 2, where I’m used to $ 5 as the standard. Music was DJ with all hip-hop tracks. Clientele was probably 80% black guys under 30, with a couple of couples. Okay, but I wouldn’t go back, based on beer and the apparent predilection for skinny women.
