This is the best BBQ I’ve had in Minneapolis. The ribs are fantastic and the pulled pork sandwich is second to none. Living in the area, it is my favorite place to order take out from. My girlfriend and I have never been let down by this neighborhood treat.

I love the food here. The pulled pork sandwich is the best. The red rice and beans are delicious. The space is a hole-in-the-wall, but get it for takeout and you’ll be satisfied with your meal.

Chicken wings and fries taste like they are fried in dirty grease. Mac and cheese is OK but not worth ordering again. Meat of the rib tips is good but the sauce is bland. There are other better bbq joints in the Twin Cities.

I still cannot believe this place doesn’t accept AMEX. I’ve explained to you numerous times that I will not order from you until you take AMEX. What you MFers need to understand is that it’s not about you. It’s about fucking me! I don’t use other CCs, even though i have them, for transactions with food establishments. With all due respect, food establishments employ iffy people with iffy dispositions. I want the power to decide if my experience meets my expectations. and I don’t care about what you MFers have to say. In case you don’t know, trying to get your money back or any other type of compensation for a messed up/unsatisfactory order is impossible with any cc other than AMEX. I like your food, but this is the final straw. Oh, and by the way, the fact you take every other CC doesn’t make me change my mind. For the last and only time at this place, we use AMEX because of the way we are treated. It’s not about you. It’s about us. okay?! You have problems with AMEX? Tough titty. Boo fucking hoo. Get used to operating in SW Minneapolis. You’re not in the ghetto. You’ve worked yourself out of hundreds of dollars each year with just me. Imagine when you couple my intransigence with other people who feel the same way? How can we trust you when you don’t take the 2nd most used CC in America? You take discover? Well, that’s nice. I didn’t know that I should care about a card that blue hairs used in the 90s. Should i bring my diner’s club card? GFY!

The pastrami sandwich is without a doubt the best sandwich I’ve had in the Twin Cities. Highly recommend the pulled pork and sides too. I always find an excuse for some banana pudding too :)

Very disappointed. We ate here based on the good reviews. We ordered rib tips and a ½ slab. The tips were extremely chewy and ribs lacked flavor. The staff was not helpful when we asked for recommendations and we had to keep asking for more paper napkins. We should have known that this place was not legit based on the lack of napkins and or paper towels at the table. The BBQ sauce was uninspired and tasted like«KC Masterpiece». The Hot sauce reminds me of just Louisiana brand sauce. COMEONMINNESOTA!!! We can do better!

Excellent rib tips and chicken wings. Great for take out; limited seating in doors. The Mac and cheese and cole slaw were also great. I can’t wait to try the Tuesday pulled pork sandwich special!

Uninspiring. Thick sauce smothers the flavor of the meat. Which isn’t that desirable. Unimpressed. The sides are bland and lack art.

After now 4(!) years of coming here, they have gotten their Sh*t together. Our regular order is the BBQ chicken, beans, fries and Okra. We call to pick up, ready in 20 minutes. We ordered a couple pounds of the BBQ brisket for a party recently and it was really good.

I finally got around to trying C&G’s. Now I have another go to spot in S. Mpls. for BBQ. As many have observed, this is mostly a takeout spot with a few tables and booths. Phone ahead to minimize your wait if you can. I ordered the full rack of spare ribs with mac & cheese and BBQ beans. The ribs were huge, moist, meaty and flavorful with the excellent sauce served separately. The side portions were a bit paltry but can be upgraded for ~$ 1.00 more. The mac & cheese was not bad and the beans were tasty but not extraordinary. I also order a six piece wing dinner with cole slaw. The very good wings are fried and have a crunchy, spicy coating. The slaw was fine. BTW, this was enough food for three hungry adults. The person behind the counter was extremely friendly. Prices are reasonable. I know I’ll be back soon to try other offerings from this worthy establishment.

I don’t see how anyone would give this place less than 5 stars. It’s a BBQ joint. Period. They make amazing, mouth watering BBQ. Sure, it’s a small place with just a few tables. And sometimes it takes a bit of time to get your order(because it’s usually only 2 or 3 people working there, including the owner). It’s not your suburban fast-food BBQ experience. There are no TV’s, no sports jersey’s on the wall … just finger licking BBQ being made in the kitchen. If you read the reviews, you’ll notice a trend. Those people who rate the food give it 5 stars. Those looking for a franchise restaurant experience give it a 3. Well, folks, this ain’t about you and you’re creature comforts. It’s about a guy from Detroit that makes Detroit-style BBQ … the right way. So, the next time you’re craving BBQ, give yourself a little time, order up some extra stuff off the menu(it reheats pretty darn well), and enjoy the experience.

I’ve been looking for some barbeque in the Twin Cities for a while now, but so much of what I’ve read on the subject around here points to a dearth of options. However, now that I’ve tried C & G’s, I know there’s something people have been missing. The food was fantastic. I got ribs(and the sauce comes on the side — a sign of great ribs), rib tips, mac & cheese and coleslaw. The ribs took me two meals to eat and were a delight. If they aren’t the best thing on the menu, I can’t wait to discover what is. The shop is a little dingy and old, but it carries a «House of Cards» feel because of it. I only wish the food could be cooked in a wood smoker, but I know that Minneapolis laws don’t allow that.

We don’t have much for BBQ in Minneapolis… but this place is pretty primo. The owner is super friendly and is in there working a lot. The ribs are big, meaty, and tender. The beef brisket is my personal favorite. Lots of meat, great flavor, good bun; it always fills me up. I have yet to try the wings, but I fully plan on it next time. The only downside to me is that the mac n cheese isn’t the best… I love me some Mac n cheese with My BBQ and theirs doesn’t quite fill that craving. The place itself is pretty small, but there are a few tables to sit and eat at if you don’t feel like taking it home with you. Overall its a nice, friendly, neighborhood BBQ joint. I’ll continue to go back… the service is on point and so is the meat!

Absolutely. Since moving to the area, whenever we’ve been craving BBQ, we seem to end up calling in an order. Everything is made from scratch and you can tell — people complained about the wait, but the wait is worth it, they are making it fresh. Great and friendly staff. Wish they sold their BBQ sauce — I’d for sure buy it by the bottle.

Great place, super nice people! We ordered Rib Tips a Half Chicken and a handful of sides. The food was good, the BBQ sauce was great. They really coat the Rib Tips in their sauce which at first feels like they are masking the quality of meat but they are really doing it cause it is gooooood. The large Rib Tips is a huge portion, we had about 3 meals for 2 people off the Rib Tips alone, really a great value considering it comes with 2 sides. The sides are not very big however, you can upgrade them to a large for like a $ 1 which is probably worth it since the regular is like 4 – 6 ounces. We had potato salad, baked beans and our favorite of the 3, Mac and Cheese. There are quite a few BBQ choices in South Minneapolis and C&G’s is a great option. Since I haven’t tried all the other choices,(Ted Cooks, Scott Jo Mamas, Smoke in the Pit, etc.) I will probably give those a whirl but it’s good to know there is a solid choice here at C&G.

I’ve been trying all the BBQ places in South and SW Minneapolis and C&G came up on Unilocal as a nearby place so we decided to try it. I’m happy we did. Despite the incorrect Unilocal reviews saying the menu is difficult to find,(It isn’t, we posted it here.) we found the whole experience to be quite satisfying. We ordered the rib tips and the brisket, a full pound of each. For sides we chose the red beans and rice, the water bread, a small baked beans and the macaroni and cheese.(Water bread is like corn bread, kinda. Good though.) The brisket was good, don’t get me wrong, but the rib tips were absurd. I could not stop eating them like a fat kid back from Heavyweights fat camp. Good gravy they were amazing. They were juicy without being floppy and were seasoned just the right amount. I will be ordering them again. We were pleasantly surprised at the red beans & rice AND the baked beans, they put brisket pieces in those! Just silly amazing. You have to try it. I actually asked the owner, who helped us as we picked it up, what the best thing on the menu was. He simply said, «I like everything. It’s what I served my kids.» While I appreciate his honestly, sweet baby jesus those tips were great. Try those first, yes. There is a Monday/Tuesday lunch special, 11−3pm, where the 1 pound of tips are only $ 6. If you add in some mac n cheese, oh biscuits, that’s an A+ neighborhood meal. Get on that! I’ll definitely be ordering from here again, trying other areas of the menu and having South Minneapolis fiery debates taking their side against Ted Cook’s or Cap’s in the future soon.

This is a great place to get some juicy smoked BBQ! Juicy and flavorful meat piled high on a nice bun. You can taste the seasonings and smoke just perfectly in the meat. Try the sweet potato pie as well! GREATBBQ!

My wife and i had a Groupon here for $ 20 bucks for 2 sandwiches and a large side. I got the baked beans for my side and I got the Motor City and the pulled pork to go. We brought them home and I tasted the brisket. Amazing! Great bun and just the right amount of spiciness BBQ. So yummy. Then I tried the pork a couple days later. Equally really good. The service was nice enough and not too bad of a wait. The joint is small, but they make some mean BBQ!
