Based on the reviews, went to Jon English for highlights and a cut before a wedding I attended in Minneapolis(partially because I have trouble finding time at home). They were friendly and helpful over the phone to make the appointment and the stylist was friendly. Coming out of the appointment, the style and cut looked great — not something I would have normally done with a lot of texture and waves but it was fun. However, the blonde highlights that I had come in for were not in fact highlights since my hair was actually darker than when I went in. Initially I thought the color was a bit darker because of product that was put in my hair or the lighting, but I realized after I left that the color was much different I expected(hoped) — and definitely darker than the«inspiration» picture I provided(see picture posted). Going into the summer, I was hoping to lighten my hair color and unfortunately now have a darker shade. I would recommend for a cut and style, but not for blonde highlights. In the end, I am giving the salon the benefit of the doubt that they would have helped to correct the color had I reached out given that they were professional in my interactions leading up to the appointment and during. However, since they were closed on Sunday and I flew out on Monday morning there wasn’t time to address.

There are few places that I am incredibly loyal to, which is why I’m so happy to have found Trinity at Jon English. I’ve been coming to her for many years and to say she’s a hair artist is an understatement. Hair magician is more like it, as she consistently tames the herd of cowlicks on my head, leaving me looking and feeling good after each appointment. I truly look forward to coming in and catching up with Trinity, much like the barbershop culture of years past. She is sweet, fun, and amazingly talented. Going in for a visit is a definite positive in my week. The rest of the team is always very kind and welcoming as well. If you’re looking for someone that cares about their clients, takes great pride in their work, and delivers consistently amazing results, look no further and go see Trinity at Jon English.

Lorae is the best — won’t go anywhere else as long as she is there. She’s someone who could easily work in NY, LA, etc and we are lucky to have her here. Always get the best cut, color and style. Great atmosphere and service — everyone is always friendly and welcoming. Some higher end salons can be pretentious but not Jon English. Highly recommended!

I moved to the Twin Cities about two years ago and struggled through stylist after stylist until I met Taylor at Jon English. I have long, naturally curly auburn hair and she has done wonders with both cut and color. She listened to my ideas and helped me find exactly what I wanted. Her knowledge helped me find a more natural color and a cut that works with my by blow outs and my natural curl. She is my hair guru!

I needed a fixer hair cut — wanted to take my ‘conservative mom bob’ into an edgier cut. I was anxious, in a hurry, feeling worried that I wouldn’t get the style I wanted — hadn’t been to Jon English in over 10 years, but went in on a whim and was greeted immediately, efficiently, asked what I was looking for, told it would be no problem, and was assigned to a great stylist(Jason, I think) who managed to calm me down, understood exactly what I wanted, and gave me an awesome cut! It’s now a few weeks later and the true sign that I love it is how it looks when you style it yourself. Highly recommend, based on this experience.

When i moved back to Minneapolis after years in San Francisco, I despaired that my hair would never look as good as it did there. I was referred to Jon English salon, and to Trinity, who was then only about 21 years old. «What does a 21 year old know about red hair color??» Turns out, a LOT. I am so glad I gave her a chance. It’s hard to find a good red colorist, and she was able to give me exactly what I wanted, and tweak my hair color throughout the seasons, talk me out of other color changes. She’s also the sweetest thing on the planet and hilarious. It’s like getting to catch up with a friend when I come into the salon. I can’t recommend her more highly. Also, this salon uses L’oreal INOA color, which is the absolute best for reds. The rest of the staff is also friendly and accommodating! Alas, I moved to New York and after four years only recently found a colorist that could keep up(NY is a town of boring blonds!)

I *heart* Jon English. I left MSP more than three years ago and I arranged my first trip back so I could squeeze in a cut here. Quality. It’s a warm, inviting environment and the prices are reasonable for the quality of service. But to be honest, I’d jump ship if Timothy and/or Trinity left. They are that good. Timothy cut — and sometimes colored — my hair for years. He’s great with giving me what I want, but also being honest. For example, it turns out I do not have Rachel Weiss hair; thank you, Timothy, for telling it to me straight instead of giving me a haircut that wouldn’t work at home. He understands that not everyone has all straight or all curly hair, and that texture can change on a dime. And color? He’s the best. I’m a natural(light) redhead, but sometimes I like to go a bit more dramatic. I’ve never left Timothy’s chair with anything but fantastic, realistic hair. Trinity does, quite simply, the best waxing I’ve ever experienced. My eyebrows still miss her, three years later. I never leave Jon English feeling anything but my prettiest. Try Timothy and Trinity!

I have been walking past the Jon English sidewalk sign for months so today I finally decided to try the deal advertised: as a walk-in to the salon, you can get a haircut for $ 30 or upgrade to a master stylist for another $ 10. I decided to do the upgrade and was matched with a master stylist within 5 minutes. The haircut is great, my stylist was super nice and not too chatty, and I was finished in about 45 minutes. All for $ 48, including tip – which was a great deal, given that the master stylists usually cost $ 65. The interior of the salon is clean and trendy, in kind of an 80’s way, and there are skylights and big windows that let in lots of natural light. There are also free drinks(bottles of water) and free treats(lollipops). I’ve tried a bunch of the other salons in Uptown and liked my experience here the best.

This place is just too snooty and thinks too highly of itself. I’ve had at least a 35 minute wait twice. My hair cut was OK(I did go back again), but I think there are better salons to be found in the Twin Cities.

For the last 5 years of my life I have paid for maybe one or 2 haircuts. Besides those I have cut it myself in the mirror with a pair of Friskars scissors, I think that might be one of the finest brand names ever. I was going along all happy and content until a little lady entered my life and changed my viewpoint on haircuts. Now I am happy to say I go see Thomas at Jon English Salon. The salon is very nice on the inside and Thomas is a great stylist. I was very skeptical at first of someone else cutting my hair but he made the right move and said for cutting myself for so long that I did a very good job. Looking back I’m assuming he was lying and just wanted to get on my good side and to that I will say«Well played sir, well played…»
