This place has the best Thai food hands down. The place needs a face lift but the food should never change. The best soup is the NS5. Sausage app is also delicious. R8 is also a must. Enjoy don’t bother going to Tum Rum Thai. This is the best.

Just ate here tonight for the first time. My sister like this place because she can’t tolerate any fats or oils at all and they are able to accommodate her needs. Tonight I had some vegetarian spring roll which was good. My entrée was the Prawns with Tamarind sauce. Excellent. It comes with a fresh vegetable mix next to it, consisting of cucumber, tomato, lettuce and carrot. The sauce is very good and you get three fairly large fried prawns that are split in half. With the good sauce, you can eat some of the shell too which is crispy. I ordered it medium and that had just about the right bite to it, not too overwhelming and retained a good flavor. All of the dishes on the menu read as good.(Well, menu choices don’t ‘sound’ like anything) I’ll be back soon enough. Some people have commented on the décor. Yeah, it’s nothing special but it’s all about the food.

Service was not friendly. The waitress seemed mad that I wanted to order a separate dish for my kid and insisted I should order noodles instead of green curry(his favorite) on the basis that curry couldn’t be prepared mild, but I told her to just leave the Thai chilis out and he’d be fine. I ordered a noodle dish extra hot and somehow I recieved extremely mild noodles and lots of finely chopped chilis in the curry. My kid hates noodles, so I had to take him to McDonalds down the street after :/My husband’s food also came out fairly bland despite ordering extra hot, but that happens to him a lot since he’s white, lol.

If I could give zero stars, I would. This place does not care if you order on the phone in ADVANCE! They will only cook it when they see you come through the doors. The estimate time is unreliable because they don’t care about how long you have to wait. They make you pay in advance so that you are forced to wait another 30 minutes for your food. After waiting, they do not say sorry. They think that they have no fault in anything. This is my experience the 3 times I went there for a pick up. If I wasn’t such a big Thai food fan, I would never come here. I guess I better go a bit further for a better service.

Food was reasonably good! Tried the Tom Yum soup and the Penang curry. A different take on the Tom Yum with generous sea food servings soaked in it! The curry was nice too. Affordable prices too! Great stop if you’re in the area and hungry.

We ordered takeout here one evening so my review is only for the food, and not for the in-dining experience. Both of our meals were very bland and the rice AND the noodles were overcooked. How hard is it to eff up rice and noodles?!

The food was amazing. Delicious, beautiful presentation, and good portions. The service was just okay… All of the food arrived at the same time, appetizers and entrees, with the exception of one entrée that came to the table 15 minutes late. Food 5, service 3. Timing 0

My experience was a little bit below average here. I went on a Sunday evening so it was pretty quiet. I’m a huge fan of Thai food and I wasn’t impressed with what they had. Service was not friendly. It’s one of those places that the servers act like they don’t want you to be there. Food was bland. I would not recommend this place.

I ordered from Bite Squad last night, as I felt a cold coming on. Soup of some kind sounded really good, so I decided to try this place for the 1st time. I ordered 3 things: a stir fry in oyster sauce(with chicken), chicken noodle soup, and the best out of everything, coconut soup. I was curious as to how their chicken noodle soup was made, given that’s not a Thai soup. It was ok. Maybe I didn’t like it much because I tried it after the coconut soup and my lips were a bit on fire, haha. The stir fry was mediocre I’m sad to say. Also, the container in which it came was half full. It almost looked like someone had eaten half or they didn’t make enough and figured oh well. The coconut soup hit the spot! I think I ordered it medium but wow, after maybe 5 minutes, my lips were in a degree of pain. But in a good way? Haha. I kept eating because the broth was so flavorful. Chicken could have been more tender, but I would definitely order this again.

Ordered online. When delivery arrived, the two thai iced coffees were missing. Since the delivery is outsourced, the delivery person said there is nothing they could do, they didnt see it on the order. So we called the restaurant and they admitted they forgot the drinks, but said they would refund us. We still wanted the drinks but the person on the phone kept pushing for us to just get the refund because it would be too much work to get it delivered again. After arguing for a bit we just decided to get refund for the drinks. If you outsource your delivery, then you should make sure all your orders are sent out properly! And then if a mistake happens and something is forgotten, SENDITOUTAGAIN.\ This is actually the second time Krungthep has messed up on my drink order. If the customer service would step up, I’d keep ordering from here, but now I am just bummed.

Ordered the Yen Ta Fo soup noodles to be delivered via Door Dash since I was under the weather. It was the perfectly spicy and the portion was huge! They certainly do not skip on the vegetables or noodles. My one gripe is that the layer of oil was pretty thick on top, but it was easy to skim off. Great option for Thai! Can’t wait to try other options.

I’ve been coming to Krungthep Thai for so long that I don’t need Unilocal to find it, and keep forgetting to review one of my favorite restaurants. Everything I’ve had here has been great. I usually have the coconut-based soups or the pineapple curry, but have explored fairly deep in the menu. I don’t have a specific recommendation; it’s all good. I often come for the lunch specials, and get another dish to go and sup(or breakfast) on that. The standard coffee, while variable, is often excellent. Minnesota Warning: When they say Hot, they mean HOT. I like that. I prefer my food on the spicy side, and Medium is fine by me. The menu isn’t quite clear on this, but they can take whatever fish they have fresh(which is often, but not always, listed on the whiteboard behind the cash register) in almost any of the styles listed in the menu. They have a very wide selection of dishes, which they will(usually) make to taste if you ask. Parking is in the small lot across the street, or on the street. Spots can be hard to find, so I would recommend carpooling. The restaurant is in two rooms, and has small tables, medium tables and round tables.

Tasty food and reasonably nice atmosphere. Menu was too long, I could hardly decide what to get! Tofu was very nicely cooked: crispy and light. Meat was also good. Ordered my dish at the hottest of three available spice levels and it had a good kick indeed which is always welcome when eating in minne-bland-sota. Beer list is short and mostly Asian lagers: good with hot food, summit epa as well, might have liked a few more beer options but I don’t know what else I’d have liked. Overall, very solid Thai place, not mindblowing but no complaints.

We were looking for a Thai spot on Nicollet and since we frequently shop at Truong Thanh Vietnamese grocery store across the street, we decided to give Krungthep Thai a try. We went in on a Tuesday night around 6pm right before the dining rush and it was nice since it was not busy. The waitstaff were friendly and we were greeted and seated right away. Throughout our meal, our waters were not refilled as timely as one would think when the restaurant isn’t busy, but we weren’t in a hurry and ate rather quickly. We ordered the spring rolls, Lao-style Papaya Salad, Stir-fried flat noodle(their Phat si-io), and the Thick curry(their Phanaeng curry) with stuffed chicken wing(all Medium spice level, except for the spring rolls). Overall, the food was very good. The spring rolls were tightly wrapped, which I find important for when taking bites, not everything is going to fall out bite after bite. The vegetable-meat-vermicelli noodle ratio leaned more heavily towards vegetable(basil, mint, cilantro, lettuce) and tasted healthy in the sense that you’re not putting foods heavy in sodium or cooked in oils into your body. The house sweet-sour sauce topped with peanuts that accompanied the rolls was a good pairing and, together, offered a tangy and savory mouthfeel upon entry into the oral cavity. The Lao-style Papaya salad rivaled our native Hmong papaya salad and we were pleasantly surprised at the balance of Shrimp paste, fish sauce, lime, and brined crab. In our experience, one of these ingredients, typically, is heavily favored and it throws off the balance but on the night, the ratio of these ingredients hit our preference. The shredded green papaya slices were crisp and generously lathered with the ingredient concoction so each bite contained flavor and you’re not searching for sauce to dip. The Phat si-io was served to us rather cold. This was disappointing, since everything else about it was the food equivalent of, as the kids these days would say, «on fleek.» The noodles were actual flat rice noodles cut to perfect size and the vegetables accompanying the noodles and chicken, specifically the Chinese Broccoli, created such a well-balanced medley of oral sensory stimulation that makes you feel at home. In addition, the mouthfeel was moist from inner extracts of individual ingredients and not as heavy into the oil used to cook the dish. This generated flavor with literally every bite as opposed to one tasting the oil containing the flavor in each bite. The Phanaeng curry with stuffed chicken wing was every ounce of savory, spicy, and umami as one would expect from a Thai curry. You know that feeling you get when you bite into something you really crave and the glands in your mouth and into your neck spike and go crazy? This is how it was with the first bite. And the second bite. And the third bite. Extedra(sic). The one pitfall of this dish was that you could noticeably see the oil emanating from the curry sauce so every now and then, you would need to stir the curry to blend it all together and then top it onto your protein. This made me(maybe psychologically) feel my arteries and veins yelling at me as I swallowed each portion. The stuffed chicken wings were cut into bite sized portions and were served crisp and moist with Phanaeng curry flavor. I would recommend this place and I myself would come back to try other foods. At least try it out to see if it fits your preference. The positives outweighed the negatives during our experience and the combined experience of how we were treated, the food, and the timeframe with which we were able to get in and out, made it a worthwhile experience.

DONOTDINEIN. You will end up frustrated and disappointed. Any time I’ve made some mention of the food not being what I asked for at a restaurant, I’ve never been argued with. This was the first. There must have been a miscommunication but I didn’t appreciate her arguing with me. The soup came with beef and in parentheses it said«stewed beef, meatballs, and tripe.» I asked her if it came with all of these meats, and then I asked if I could only have the stewed beef. She told me I didn’t say that. I’ve worked in the customer service industry and typical protocol is to just accept what the customer says and give them what they want, not argue with them. I also asked for the soup to be hot, and it was barely mild. The mistake on the food wouldn’t have been a big deal had she not made it very clear that she didn’t give a crap about her customers. It wasn’t busy so it shouldn’t have taken that long to at least come to the table with our waters but for some reason it did. It took us 10 minutes to get our soda, and we had to ask the guy at the cash register to get it for us because we weren’t even sure if she had forgotten about it. Other reviewers have made mention of the poor customer service. If you want to eat here, I would suggest ordering take out. But beware because another reviewer did make mention of putting in a take-out order an hour prior only to find out that they hadn’t even started cooking the food when she came to pick it up.

Be careful for the guy who makes you feel like shit for ordering Pad Thai. I told him the heart wants what it wants. This place is cheap and good. Huge menu too for when you want to lie to yourself about how you DON’T WANTPADTHAI. Highlights: Green Mango Salad — Delicious !!! So fresh, so flavor !!! Khao Soi — Fried egg noodles, normal egg noodles, yellow curry, pickled mustard greens, shallots, fried onion, a chicken breast and leg. This dish is like 10 bucks and so worth it. Coconut Soup — love that mild coconut flavor, perfect for sharing Larb salad with fried tilapia — SO GOOd. Lime and shallots are amazing. Pad Thai — It’s good … They charge you for extra rice here btw.

We reserved this place for a birthday lunch based on one of those«Best in the City» awards. Well, I want to know who votes on these things? Because I can think of at least 10 Thai restaurants around the city that serve better food than Krungthep. The service was not good either — they messed up our food order and charged us for food that we didn’t order. It took the cashier around 20 – 25 minutes to get everyone’s bill figured out. This is one place that we will probably not be going back to.

Tried take-out from Krungthep for the first time last night and I have a feeling it won’t be the last time! I had the Garlic Pepper Stir Fry(Pad Kratiem Prig Tai) with shrimp, crab, and squid. The flavor was amazing. Best flavor of any Thai I have had in the city. After reading previous reviews indicating that the food here was SPICY, I ordered mine mild, as I like a little bit of spice but do not enjoy extreme fire mouth. The mild still had quite a kick to it, but not to the point I was uncomfortable. My boyfriend had the Thai Basil stir fry with Chicken, ordered medium spicy. The flavor was once again superb. It was HOT but he loved it! However, there were a couple of small negatives. We also ordered the cream cheese wontons, and while the order was big enough at 8, there was barely any filling in the wonton. The filling that was there was delicious, there just wasn’t a great deal of it. Also, I thought the portion sizes of the entrees were a little bit small for the price, but not so much so that I would not order from here again. Overall a positive experience and I can’t wait to try some more dishes here!

This restaurant raised their prices a lot. It’s an old place so they should not be charging these prices. If the portions were larger and flavors were great then maybe… Flavors were very average. Service from the shorter waitress was horrible. We never got our water refilled. Dishes came with no serving utensils. I asked for entrée portion of a dish and when it came out wrong, I mentioned it and she said, «no you didn’t». What an attitude. No sorry we could change that or anything. I will not be back here.

One of the huge advantages to living in Stevens Square is the great access to Eat Street. I’ve been to my fair share of bars and restaurants along this delicious strip of real estate, but Krungthep Thai is BYFAR my favorite place on Eat Street. It’s turned into one of my go-to spots, so whenever a friend is being indecisive, I always recommend Krungthep. The menu is pretty big, and I’ve had a good sampling of it all — enough to safely say that everything on it is fantastic. But I’m a sucker for their red curry with tofu, with the cream cheese wontons for starters.

I used to love this restaurant, but lately it seems as if something has changed. It still is a very good spot to get Thai food, and I would still recommend it to others, but I just don’t love it as much as I used to love it. Krung Thep is located on the very popular Eat Street with a lot of other great restaurants to compete with, but still gets my business quite often despite the many options all over. I never order anything too complicated or unique, but most of the time, my food will be perfect and exactly what I wanted. They have very flavorful dishes, with really good mock duck options for vegetarians, too. Be careful if you’re not a big fan of spicy dishes — they’re not messing around when they rank their spice level here! It seems like the prices have gone up here a little bit — but I guess that’s to be expected with any restaurant as the years go by. One thing I’m really happy about is that they now have a website where you can see their menu! I mostly order take out when I pass through the restaurant, so that is so much more helpful!

There are plenty of food options in downtown Minneapolis… but there are times when you crave something legit… meaning you need to leave the confines of the grid!!! Thanks to an amazing bus system(hats off to MetroTransit)…we hopped a local bus(always a little sketch!) and made our way to Eat Street on Nicollet Ave. A co-worker recommended Krung Thep, after they had dined here a couple times. I was a huge fan of the former tenants, but sometimes new is better. The interior is essentially the same, a few minor differences; either way, we were seated right away. What I immediately thought was interesting was the Viet soap opera playing on the big screen :-)(who knew?!) Anyhoo…I needed food!!! For any new Viet place, I have to try the spring rolls… which I quickly ordered, along with Thai/Lao Style Papaya Salad. Damn were the springs rolls good! Hit the spot, fresh made, not skimpy on the filing(or the shrimp)…great peanut sauce(mild, not super strong). i was feeling really spicy food and was challenged to order the M+…which is real-people terms, «stupid f*cking hot». My friends… don’t do it. Now, aside from the fact I burned off all my taste buds… where’s the water; the salad was fresh, clean and loved the cray fish on the side. Reminded me of similar dishes I had while in Cambodia. Seek this place out… avoid the M+ spice level :-)

There are way too many thai restaurants all over the Twin Cities that is hard to remember them all, but somehow this place always calls me when I think of a nice meal out. Their food is delicious, the servers are great, some of the ladies a little bit odd for American customer service standards, but over all I feel welcome and wanting to come back. Their spicy levels are colored people approved(I’m Guatemalan) which is great because sometimes I struggle to find thai food that has some actual flavor. Their fresh rolls are heavenly with some of the best sauces ever and it’s a very homey small place with personality and spice…

3.5 stars. I ordered takeout over the phone; the person who answered was quite friendly but the brief interaction I had with the cashier in the restaurant was rather brusque. Massaman curry was sweet and tangy, not spicy at all. The portion size was quite generous and consisted of three large chunks of bone-in chicken, a few big chunks of potato and a couple of peanuts. Maybe a tiny bit of onion. Not the most impressive-looking, perhaps(refer to photo), but the chicken was tender and the sauce was tasty. Pad thai was decent. Pretty big portion that was mostly a pile of orange noodles with some bits of chicken. Noodles were good with noticeable spice even though I asked for mild(which was fine with me); the chicken pieces were quite dry.
