We ordered La Loma for my baby’s baptism lunch, which is about as high of a compliment as I can give a place. I know there are lots of tempting places in MGM, but I only have eyes for La Loma. I’ve tried a lot of items on their menu, but there’s a reason the Tamales are in their name. Tamales. For practical purposes, I’ll tell you their mild salsa is not messing around and the hot should be consumed in very small quantities.

Last year, I ordered a large amount of tamales as part of Rosco de Reyes because I had gotten the baby from the pie. Some of my co-workers, including me, celebrated this holiday because there are a lot of people at my work who were born in Mexico. The one who gets the baby from the pie is the one who buys the tamales a certain amount of days later. La Loma Tamales is a fantastic business to order tamales. I went there in person the day before to let them know that I would be making a large order. They were well-accommodating with my advanced order. They also had a sale on tamales as a part of Rosco de Reyes, buy one get one half off. This was a great way to save money, considering the amount I was buying. The employees were friendly, and the appeared eager to please their customers. There was a long line of customers, but they appeared to carry themselves well. They served these customers, including myself, in a reasonable and timely manner. Therefore, I did not have to stay in line for very long. On both of my visits, the pre-order and the pick-up, the place appeared clean, organized, and well-managed. The employees appeared to have a good eye on staying on top of all of that. This is largely what made me so comfortable buying from them. The tamales came to me fresh and hot, and they tasted delicious. All of my co-workers agreed that this business was an excellent choice from where to purchase the tamales. In other businesses where I have done pre-orders, I have had problems with the business keeping everything hot. I did not have that problem with this place. If I ever have another such opportunity to buy from them, or if I get the baby again for Rosco de Reyes, I will buy from this place again. I feel like I can count on them to deliver outstanding service.

I asked an employee whether they had used soybean oil in their tamales. He said they don’t use any oil. This was good news as I have a soy allergy. So my wife and I each ate a delicious tamale. We came to learn a few weeks later that La Loma uses pork lard in the tamales. This turned out to be horrible news. I don’t eat pork for religious reasons and my wife doesn’t for vegetarian reasons. One would think that a business that made only one thing would focus on good ingredients. Had their tamales been made with canola oil they would have had both a happy customer and much repeat business.

We catered Los Loma for a birthday a couple weeks ago. Everyone wanted to know where it was from as everyone commented on how delicious and authentic everything was! We ordered the chicken and beef fajitas the enchiladas and corn tamales. I personally loved the guacamole. It was the best I have tasted! Someone previously mentioned the corn tamales… they are fantastic! Prices are very reasonable.

The chile rellenos are fantastic. The guacamole is fantastic. The service is fantastic. The rice is just like all the rice you’ve had on plates of Mexican food except it has, like, five different veggies in it. The pinto beans are good. The tortillas are great. The only thing I can’t give a million stars to is the salsa, which somehow managed to taste like lime flavored beer salt. Still edible, but once I got the idea in my head I couldn’t shake it I totally love this place. If you’re in MSP and you want the best chile rellenos I’ve been able to find in a year of looking, this is the droid you’re looking for.

La Loma has your standard fair Mexican style tacos, platos and sope options. What I love about this place though are their tamales. Spicy and savory or sweet and flavorful are the options. With the sweet corn, carnitas, pollo and plenty other options, you’ll always get your fill at La Loma. And with multiple locations, one in the skyway by Bombay Bistro and the other in midtown(if we’re talking Minneapolis), you’ll never go missing… er hungry. Your coworkers may think you’re missing if you spend all day here. Overall a great place for tamales.

I would have to rate La Lomas chicken tamales in my top 5 most cravable foods in the Twin Cities! They are moist and perfectly spicy with generous amounts of chicken. The sweet corn tamales are like dessert! I can’t get enough. I’m there every week.

Had an interesting hot drink called champurrado. It has corn masa and coco in it. Could replace breakfast as it is filling!

Let’s get one thing out of the way. Mpls food is better than St. Paul food. Why? I don’t know, but it’s true. The La Loma in Downtown St. Paul is the wackest… just, the wackest. But this location? I knew I was gonna be at The Market Sat and I was dreaming about eating chilaquiles verdes the night before. That tomatillo salsa is everything, y’all. My one complaint about this place? They always give me WAY more food than I can eat and I think of starving children all over the world when I inevitably throw half of it away. :( Real Mex food lovers, rejoice. La Loma is doing it right!

I will have to say the food has a good taste but the service is some of the worsted in the global market only one that has worst the this place is the holy land. Never try to order breakfast it could take anywhere from 15 min to ½ hour and hopefully the order is right most of the time the order is wrong

Had the Oaxacan Tamal Platter. Good portions and value. The beans where tasty and not overly cooked. Rice was a bit ho-hum. Good flavor and heat to the green salsa. Matched well with the tamale. Tamale was wrapped in banana leaf and added a great layer of flavor. Quick service at the Midtown. Will be going again soon.

For some reason, I was avoiding this place. The fancy menu signs made me think it was another market trap… but it’s not. The oaxaca tamale was B.D.C(bomb dot com) — the other tamales look attractive too — try them all for less than $ 3 each(skip the plates with beans and rice). Guacamole was pretty good also. I’ll be back.

Chile rellenos were amazing! Properly spiced. The beans and rice sides were a little on the bland side but definitely a place that I would like to revisit.

I am originally from Austin, Texas, and have yet to find tamales that can compare with those I had growing up, but these are ok. I had the tamale plate with a pork and a corn tamale. Corn tamales are new to me. They are sweet and almost desert like. It was excellent. The pork tamale was fine, better than most you can get here. The tamale plate came with a choice of either black or pinto beans and rice. It was a good value for the money. Service was quick and courteous. I will be back to try a few of their other offerings.

Coming from southern California, I can say I’ve tried many tamales and just… never…liked ‘em. But, when it comes to food, I like to try different versions endlessly. So when a friend told me about La Loma, I had to try the tamales. And gosh, I feel embarrassed for not loving tamales before. The Oaxacan tamales here are juicy and makes me feel warm and well-fed. Another friend raved about the enchiladas, which I always tell myself to try, but I can never seem to get myself to not go for one of the tamales instead!

i understand that this place gets rave reviews and studying the photos(most of which look really amazing) have a difficult time reconciling my experience at LALOMA with everybody else’s. service was very good but our tamale was just awful. nasty and dry. how can something warming in a steamer be that dry and almost completely without flavor. just a little, gift wrapped pile of gritty masa that crumbled when we cut into it with a plastic fork.

Very delicious tamales! I had the Oaxacan style and the pork, and both were very good, with a nice light texture and full flavors. Will most definitely return.

Tried the pork tamale and the oaxacan tamale. Both were very authentic and a couple of the most delicious I have had. Fast, inexpensive and a fun place to explore for lunch in the Midtown Global Market. I would come back again and again if I lived here!

One of the many places in Midtown Global Market. Had brunch here for the first time a few days ago and can’t wait to go back. I went with a couple of friends, and we all got something different. We all tried each others food and agreed it was really good! I got a vegetarian chimichanga(you have to tell them because the one on the menu isn’t vegetarian). It was ginormous and came with a fresh little side salad and some sort of yummy sour cream/yogurt sauce. I had to have a friend help me finish my plate, which is shocking because I can eat lol. Friends got breakfast dishes. With tax, my meal came to about $ 8. They serve breakfast all day and have all kinds of things on their menu(huevos rancheros, enchiladas, burritos, tamales, breakfast burritos, omelets, french toast, chip/salsa, etc.). They also have a little cup of this spicy red hot sauce that you have to ask for. There are seats around La Loma or you can sit in the central area in the market. Note: if you come on a busy day, you might find difficulty finding seats, so be on the look out if you’re looking to eat there. Can’t wait to try other menu items.
