River Lake Clinic

River Lake Clinic is the best eye clinic I have ever been to. I have been wearing contacts since I was 13. Both Dr. Mike and Dr. Josh are the best in town. On top of being the best in the business, they are both lovely people. I recommend this clinic to my close friends and family!

Complete rip off for glasses/​contacts. Dr. Josh felt like a used car salesman trying to convince me why I HAD to have transition lenses for my glasses. Rather then dicussing what types of additions to my lenses would beneficial and costs he simply said «do this». On top of that I wasn’t told there would be a repeat contact lense fitting fee. Yes I understand that this fee is standard practice when first getting contacts. However, my prescription or brand did not change nor did he even look at the contacts in my eyes. How can you tell me you performed a fitting exam when you just gave me the pair and I walked out the door? In prior experiences other doctors only charge the fee when you are switching to a new brand and they make you come back in a week or so later to ensure that they are a good fit for the health of your eyes. Do not visit here if you honor trust and integrity.

You’d be hard-​pressed to find better eye doctors anywhere. Dr. Mike has 40 years of experience and my doctor, Dr. Joshua Smith-​Hanen was recently named Best Young Eye Doctor by the Minnesota Optometric Association. This is a great family business with a great community of folks that have been coming in for years. The optician (Joni) worked hard to get me the best pair of computer glasses I have ever had and a great pair of high quality sunglasses. She and the doctors provide the most comprehensive eye exams and contacts fittings I have ever had. The exams typically last about 60 – 90 minutes and you really feel like you’re their favorite patient. Both doctors and Joni know me by name and immediately recall my eye conditions and my orders. Their memory is amazing! I can’t say enough good things about this place, I feel like they are all my friends.

I am reminded everytime I am sitting in the waiting area well past my appt time and each time I try to call for an appt why I need tofind a new doc. Customer service is terrible. I should never be put on hold for 12 minutes when trying to make a simple appt then told to just call back another time. The eye doc is great, but the waiting is ridiculous! If you value your time, go elsewhere.

I’ve been coming here for the last 13 yrs. I’ve come here bcuz the DR Hanen-​Smith, is a good one. You get your eye exam and for my contacts he uses some cool machines that helps fit my rigid, hard contacts to the shape of my eyes. His machines are always keeping up w/​the times. He does more in this location for your eyes than any place i have ever been to. Thats all im interested in. Being able to see well, AND get what I paid for. I drive for a living and I do like the Gant glasses w/​transition lenses and no glare lightweight lenses. great fit, and fits my personality and my looks. I definitely recommend this place! I have been to the mall eye stores and stand alone stores, I have yet to see anything beyond the «read the line as far down as you can» and the «is one better or two better» eye exam room… personally will wait to come here for my eye exam both glasses and my toric contact lenses. I need the rigid contacts for my stigmatisms

Until a recent Lasik I’ve been blind as a bad since I was a child. Because I’ve lived so many places I’ve been to numerous optometrists and have seen all forms of machinery.
Dr. Hanen-​Smith provides the most thorough eye examination I have *ever* had. Not only do you get a great eye exam, Dr. Hanen-​Smith provides a thorough eye health exam as well.
Simply put, he is the *best* in town.
