Great place. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. Friendly staff, fast service and freshly made food that has fabulous flavor.

I still love breakfast at the Lowry, but I had the most disappointing Reuben there today that I have ever had at any restaurant including Arby’s. First, the rule of Reubens is that they always come with a spear pickle — everywhere. But the problem was the sandwich itself. It was not very well packed and the meat, what there was of it, was gristly and contained more fat than I have ever had in a Reuben. Definitely not good. Especially not for the price.

I have enjoyed many meals at the Lowry Café but after the Lowry posted photos of minors who shoplifted, I will not dine there again. The criminal justice system does not permit public identification of minors accused of crimes. This café was out of line to post the boys’ images without their permission or their parents. They might have preferred to avoid the police but they violated those boys rights. I hope their parents sue. I lived in N. Minneapolis for 20 years and welcomed the Lowry Café. . but when I visit Minneapolis, which I do several times a year to see my family, I will not be returning to the Lowry Café.

Good was great, especially the Walleye sandwich! Took a little long than expected to get the food, but well worth the wait. We will be returning!

Corn beef hash with potatoes and two eggs cooked perfectly just melts in your mouth. This place is very nice and clean. Fast polite service and the coffee is great. They have a new team of servers and cooks. Been there 5 times since the change and it’s been same every time !

I’ve only been here once but I was a huge fan. My wife and I shared a large traditional breakfast and it was delicious. Coffee was great as well. Our server was friendly and I liked the design of the café. Will definitely be back.

Not from around the area, we were just driving through. I had the meatsa omelet which included 2 slices of toast and hashbrowns. It was delicious! I could only eat half of everything so now I have breakfast for tomorrow too. My husband had the Jordan. It included 2 eggs, 2 bacon strips, 2 sausage patties, 2 slices of toast, 2 pancakes, and hashbrowns. Seriously good food and big portions. A 4 star just because it was echo-y and loud so we had to nearly yell to each other to have a conversation

Breakfast only review: I was a fan… just because of the peanut butter waffle heaven, until I saw on the web menu it is made with Skippy. Funny how that one word ruined it for me. For a place that seems to try to cater to foodies, how hard would it be to use real peanut butter without the extra crap in it? Also tried the spinach frittata which wasn’t anything like I was expecting. Frittatas are supposed to be thick and fluffy and full of yummy things. This was a flat egg disc and all the ingredients advertised in the menu were layered on top. Don’t get me wrong it was edible. Just not special. The Lowry could be worse.(It’s better than Perkins)…It also could be better.

The Lowry Café is a gem nestled on the West end of Lowry Avenue North. If you’re wondering why this is a gem, I will explain: In North Minneapolis, we have a dwindling number of breakfast options. While the neighborhoods resident posh coffee bar has stopped serving breakfast on weekdays, there leaves little more for those of us who want to grab a bite to eat in the AM unless you’re inclined to hit a drive through. That’s where The Lowry Café changes things. For starters, the food is all scratch: Try the scratch recipe Biscuits and Gravy and you’ll rethink ordering them next time you hit a chain restaurant. Two fluffy, soft biscuits smothered in a delicious, not-too-salty sausage gravy. If you’re into the more handheld variety, the Breakfast Sandwich Meal is a must. I order mine with Pepperjack Cheese and Bacon, but you may want to try Swiss and Ham! A healthy serving of hash browns accompanies. For those of you bored of the usual honey dew/cantaloupe/grape fruit bowl, The Lowry Café kicks it up a notch: Kiwis, Strawberries, Blueberries and Watermelon gave a summer twist to a usually boring side option.(Fruit is extra to substitute as a side.) Soups, salads and good old comfort food. The burgers are cooked wonderfully with some creative toppings. 4 Stars because I have had a few waitresses who were generally unattentive even though I was one of, or the only, customer in the building. This should not stop you from going though, it won’t be a wait staff experience from hell. If you’re looking for a local hang out to support, you found it. The owner is a hardworking man who is almost ALWAYS around waiting tables. It has a tendency to get very busy on Sundays around church-rush, but otherwise I’ve had an enjoyably experience there.

The Lowry is one of my personal favorites. I love the steak salad and breakfast here is also pretty good. They get bar food, so if you’re looking for something to munch on while you drink, The Lowry has got you covered.

We went to the Lowry Café for lunch this afternoon and were disappointed by the experience. On a day when there were only four others in the restaurant, the waitress’s attention to detail was lacking. Cola without ice was served with ice, twice. Burger was served with fries despite a substitution ordered. Chicken in the salad was breaded despite the waitress telling us it was not. We sent the salad back to the kitchen for a second try. This time the chicken was not breaded, but three of the six ingredients in the salad were missing. We sent it back and left paying only for the Early Bird burger which was actually pretty good(the bacon was the best part). We won’t be going back anytime soon.

The breakfast was good and generous in portions. I had an omelet and it was one of the best I’ve had. I love the décor of the restaurant and I love the fact that there is a nice restaurant in North Minneapolis where you can sit down and have a nice breakfast, lunch or dinner. The down side is that the service is slow. It took 20 minutes before we were given menus, another 15 before our order was taken. Our food did come quickly once the order was placed, 10 minutes. We asked for extra butter, but never got it. The bill was brought to us but it was difficult to get her to collect because she never looked our way, despite we were waving our arms trying to get someone’s attention whenever we saw someone in the area. She went to collect from a table behind us, and those people told her that we were trying to get her attention. All in all, I think perhaps they don’t have enough help, given how busy they are. The waitresses were soooo busy they never even smiled, at all. They looked so glum. However, I would try this place again because it is a nice place, and the food is good. One visit doesn’t necessarily tell the story.

Scrumptious made-from-scratch biscuits and gravy, pilgrimage worthy sake bloodies with a thick cut of bacon, and affordable prices. This place is the holy trinity of tasty, boozy, and cheap. It’s well worth repeated trips to North… I need to go back.

Never, ever going back… evarrrr. The food is just OK, with some of it being really substandard. The interior decorating shows some promise… but let me get to why I will never return. I walk in, sat down at «my table» where I had sat the couple previous times I came in that week for lunch.(I was in the neighborhood for business.) One of the owners was chatting with a table towards the front, he saw me walk in. A couple more people behind the counter in front also saw me walk in. There were ~3 other occupied tables who had already ordered and been served. Then I waited. And waited some more. And after that, I waited. About 15 – 20 minutes in, someone who was busing tables said they would send a server over. That server apologized for the wait, took my order and walked the order right back to the kitchen. He made some offhand comment as he was walking away about how I was«hiding» from him. Then 5 minutes later, another server comes over, and I tell her,” oh yea, here’s my order, but that guy over there took it just 5 minutes ago…” This new server then told me «next time, don’t hide!» and«next time, make sure I see you!» There were a couple of other comments along these lines. I had a slightly more flexible schedule that day, and I prefer to support small business, so I decided to stay. I stay, and wait. I wait for 15 – 20 more minutes before I have to leave. I start packing up. The female server comes back and looks puzzled. I tell her my food didn’t come, and I have to get going. She apologizes profusely. It turns out she co-owns the restaurant with her husband, Eddie, the guy who first took my order. He tells her it is her fault my order did not make it to the kitchen, in front of me, the customer. He stomps off to the kitchen to see how long it would take. I am one foot out the door when they offered me a chef’s salad and a coupon for«Lunch on Eddie». { I am not an impolite person, so even though I was allergic to things in the salad, I took it and gifted it to a coworker.} No thanks on the free lunch. Here’s the deal. I am never, evarrrr coming back. I like the fact that someone has the wherewithal to open an eatery in Near North, so instead I’m going to give you some free advice. –Those tables are your responsibility. If you cannot be responsible for serving them in a timely fashion, take the tables out and install a ficus plant or something. If a customer can possibly slip by you after 3 – 4 people(Eddie included) sees that person… put a chime on the door. Have the servers«walk the floor» every 5 – 7 minutes(this changes depending on the amount of space the venue occupies, obviously.) Offer prompt, polite service, especially at the lunch hour… or your customers will not come back. –I did not cut a hole in your ceiling and lower myself in to your restaurant on a cable vis a vis Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible and then proceed to hide out in your dishwasher. I came in the front door of your establishment and sat at a table. I wasn’t hiding from you; I was waiting politely for my order to be taken. Do not belittle and insult your customers… or they will not come back. –Never fight, complain or whine in front of your customers… or they will not come back. As it turns out, Eddie and Leah are not merely servers, they are the husband and wife co-owners of the Lowry. I do not relish the idea of giving a 1 star review, but I was given completely substandard service by both of the owners, so one star it is.

I recently moved to the area and had an hour or so to kill before work, so my boyfriend and I decided to check out this café. We had high hopes, but sadly were underwhelmed by both the service and the food. Pros: –The café itself was gorgeous and had a well-thought-out design and details. –There’s a parking lot! –The staff were very friendly and welcoming. –The toast was delicious. –Coffee was good. The con(s) that affected most of our meal: –While we noticed that the employees were friendly, we didn’t get very attentive service. Perhaps it’s because we aren’t regulars, but several other tables got better and more frequent service. –The food was okay, but kind of bland. The hash browns were mushy. :(

Stopped here on saturday with a few people for breakfast. The food was good price and the breakfast was large for the cost. I am not sure why people are saying the portions are small. The portions were very large at this place. I had the jordan it comes with 2 sausage patties, 2 eggs., 2 bacon strips, 2 pancakes, and hash browns for like 11 bucks. the portion is enough to feed 2 people. people who say the portions are small must be very large.=x im just saying… i also had the soup of the day it was cream of potato soup with bacon the cup was good size and also the biscuits and gravy. was 3 something for 2 large biscuits in a large plate of gravy. I rate the place 5 stars because the food was good and the service was amazing. i hope to go back again soon to try out the rest of the stuff

If I haven’t reviewed this joint yet, I should be ashamed.(insert shame face here). It is one of the only breakfast joints near the ‘hood I live in now, and it is super easy for me to bike there(which I should definitely be doing more often). Its a moderately sized breakfast-lunch mom and pop style restaurant on lowry, right off penn. The first time I went there, we got free slices of cake because it was the first anniversary of their opening! That was definitely a good sign. We also ate there relatively recently(a couple of weeks ago) for breakfast with some other friends. No wait for a table any of the times I’ve been there(which have all been after 10am), which is great. And we always are able to get a booth. Super score. They’re super quick on water and coffee refills, which is quite nice. And the wait staff is cheery and friendly, but not in a fake«buy stuff» sort of way. It seems like they all live within the neighborhood, and everyone is pretty casual there. Its staffed by an equal number of teenagers(some in-training) and middle-aged moms. No young male waiters with the wayfarer glasses and skinny jeans and v-neck tees standing there with a bored face while taking your order. If you want that, go back to Uptown. I think everything I’ve had(or that other folks in my party have had) has been pretty awesome. When we were there last, I had the corned beef hash(home made! with real corned beef and little potato bits!), which was amazing. The beef and potato bits were small, instead of the giant chunks that a lot of other places give you(which I don’t care for, since I like all of the flavors on one forkbite). I ordered my eggs poached… and poached perfectly, they were. The amount of food is totally enough — I don’t always finish my plate and I can eat like I get a paycheck for it. I’ll definitely go back here again. It’s fast becoming my new fave breakfast joint. Just regular, homemade good food. No gimmicks. Not trendy or deconstructed or greasy diner style. Just good stuff.

What a nice neighborhood café! This place has a very relaxing vibe. It’s a kind of place where you meet your friends, have a nice meal and catch up. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I only came here for breakfast. The service was excellent. The server was very nice, friendly and attentive. The heat hungry eggs benedict was very good. The eggs were cooked just right, and the seasoned hollandaise was a little tangy and very creamy. One complaint though. the hash browns was a little on a soggy side, otherwise it was almost perfect. Cant wait to come back and try something else!
