Never been disappointed with the food here. Everything this really good. The tacos are definitely my favorite here. They are soo good.

The wings were really good. Service was great.
The lightning lunch seemed cool, but the wings won.

A solid 3. Nice staff. Good beer selection. Food is fair at best. They rave about their avocado balls and they are nothing. Beer was decent. Atmosphere good.

I went there for Mother’s Day, I had the horny goat bison burger. It was fantastic!!! My bun was a little dry, but everything else was perfect!

Omg, shut the front door. We came to South Bend for a wedding and found this place on Unilocal.We wanted a late night app, Ariel suggested dry rub wings with sauce on the side. This is where it gets good and I say STFD.
These are smoked (mild flavor), then lightly fried with the ULTRA CRISPY non greasy skin. Yes that’s the STFD part and secret. Try them before dipping in the sauce… simply amazing. Then try the sauces, they sound traditional but are not even close. I’ve lived in 6 states, traveled the world and these are a close 2^nd to the wings at Moosehead grill in Charlotte, NC.

I found the place to be average. The beer was good. The fried guac was not very flavorful– I think it could use a bit more kick in it. I ended up having the steak tacos. They were again, just OK. I think they needed a salsa of some sort in there as they were a bit dry. The truffle fries were really good.

Super cool place. Food is very unique and fresh. The Mac and cheese is killer! The tacos are fantastic. Kinda like a double decker taco. A soft shell glued to a hard shell with gooey melted cheese. I had the Al Pastor my GF had the big bad voodoo tacos. We both thought they where each awesome. And for a side we did the Mac and cheese. Amazing and a meal on its self as a side. The ménage à trois Mac and cheese is awesome! Loaded with pork and topped with more pork. The lady had the mushroom truffle Mac and cheese she loved it. The truffle oil really adds a lot of good flavor to it. For an app we went something different the the norm. The «pork» rib corn dogs. But they changed them from pork rib to a pheasant sausage. They were killer! Sweet crunchy batter and a mild flavorful sausage nestled inside. But they’re are only two in the order so not a good app for sharing with the table. Beer is really good. The flights come with a good sized tasting. Over all a really cool place with unique food. If you have never been there you must go and give it a shot.

I’ve come here twice now, and each time really enjoyed my meals. The first time our table split an order of poutine and chicken wings, and both were excellent. I had a greek salad and a side of mac’n’cheese for my main course, and both were very good.
During my latest visit, we tried the fried guacamole, and it was pretty good. In retrospect, I would’ve preferred another order of poutine.
I decided to try the El Chapo steak sandwich, and it was so good. It was served open face, with carne asada, a spicy sauce, fried onion frizzles, and a fried egg on top. I could only eat about a quarter of it, but the leftovers were still delicious.
I also tried their homemade root beer, which was really good.
I will definitely be back here next time I’m in town!

Warning: If you go during Sunday Brunch hours, only the brunch is available, no menu service. So this was unexpected when I went, but it ended up working out fine.
I was in town for a performance, spent the night, and wanted to have brunch somewhere different before I headed back to Chicago. I went to college in South Bend and have some favorites there, but Unilocaled to find someplace new to try.
When I read «friend guacamole» and «gourmet mac & cheese» in some of the reviews, I thought I’d check out the Evil Czech.
I was solo, so the hostess suggested the bar. I’m not crazy about high-​tops, so she told me I could sit on a couch, or that there were some regular tables in the back, but she didn’t know if any would be available. She also told me to come back if there wasn’t anything I’d like, and she’d be happy to seat me in the dining room instead. She was very nice — A nice first impression.
When I walked into the bar I surveyed the landscape, and saw that sitting «on a couch» meant that I could perch on a coffee house-​style couch in front of a little table made out of a barrel, that barely fit the plates of one guy who was already there, let alone multiple people that might share a couch. No thanks.
Then I looked toward the far end of the room and could see people seated at regular tables, but just a few. As I approached, though, I could see that one two-​top was available. Great! My spot! Only one problem — New wrapped silverware/​napkin setups had been placed on the table, but it was clear that it hadn’t been cleaned off. There were still a couple fairly large globs of salsa right in the middle of the table (couldn’t have just been missed by accident) and a french fry on the floor by the table.
But it was the only non-​high-​top, non-​couch spot available, so I slid in and waited, and eventually flagged down a server to clean it off. No apology from the server, unfortunately, which sealed my decision to give it four stars instead of five. Everything else was just great.
My server offered a great beer suggestion (I asked for something lighter than a porter or stout, but darker than a wheat, and ended up with a brown beer. I don’t remember the name, but it was great — No hoppy or bitter taste, but robust enough for me.
Then she mentioned that only the brunch buffet was available, and at the point I pictured an eggs and bacon buffet, which was not what I wanted, so I briefly considered leaving. She explained that it was all tapas (small plate) style, but featured many of their specialties. I asked about mac & cheese, and she confirmed that several varieties were included, so I decided to stay and try it. I didn’t think to ask her the price, and she didn’t offer it, but when the bill came I found out it was $ 16.95, which was more than I’d expected to spend, but was fine given what it included.
The buffet is set up in the kitchen prep/​pickup area, so you walk along and grab plates just over the counter from where the cooks are preparing them. Because of this, the food is plentiful, very fresh, and well-​stocked. Everything is carefully labeled, so I knew exactly what I was selecting. I made one pass by everything first, then went back along to pick up my selections.
The buffet actually worked out better than planned, because I got to try everything I’d hoped for, and more. There were three mac & cheeses available (although I only see one of them on the regular menu), and single-​nugget samplers of the fried guacamole (although I could have had multiple if I’d wanted them), along with their mini burgers, salads, schnitzel on a bed of mashed potatoes, etc., etc., etc. Everything was very good, but the schnitzel and mashed potatoes were a standout (and I’m not usually that big of a mashed potato fan, but they were very buttery, more like a baked potato), and the creamy mac & cheese with broccoli and feta was outstanding.
I also sampled a couple of the small plate desserts, and even though I’d thought I was already stuffed, I managed to finish these off with gusto! Most of the desserts were on a separate table and weren’t labeled like the food plates were, but I selected something that looked like tiramisu. Then I turned around to the couner and picked up a piece of Bananas Foster waffle (can’t remember any of the exact names now). Both of these were great — Very flavorful, and just the right size that they didn’t overwhelm my full stomach.
My server, Ariel, was great — I was dining alone, but still wanted to have a quiet, relaxing meal with my iPad. :) I appreciated her checking up on me several times, but appreciated that she didn’t make me feel either rushed or overly attended to. She handled it just right.
The hostess smiled and thanked me on the way out, which to me is SO important. So many restaurants miss out on this chance to leave a last good impression on their patrons.
I’ve already told the rest of my family that this is a must-​visit place when we’re back in town.

Ordered the El Chapo for my wife and I, and it was awesome! Had the evil Czech monk IPA and that was quite good too. Our waiter was quite amusing as well made it a good experience.

I needed a quick dinner. This place was walking distance from my hotel and was recommended. So, I took the walk.
First impression was «this place is loud!» After sitting and having my dinner, my first impression stands. This is a loud place.
I asked what they’re known for and was directed to the Bison Burger so, that’s what I had.
It came with great French fries and the burger was on a nice, fresh bun that had been ever-​so-​lightly toasted. The meat was flavorful and the lettuce, etc were fresh and crisp.
Worth a try if you’re in South Bend.

We weren’t really impressed with the food that we ate there. I ordered their burger with fried egg and bacon on it… bland. The bacon was so chewy. My hubby ordered the barbecue pork spare ribs. He said it was dry and didn’t taste good at all! In fairness, we enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip, an appetizer. Ambiance is cool but service was a bit slow.

I came alone. There was a huge line at the entrance and I was assuming that there will be a wait. The hostess suggested the bar (The one place I wanted to go, so great!). I squeezed in at the bar, and was immediately greeted. Ordered a Blonde Czich, quickly served. The ambience is great, busy and enjoyable.
I ordered a San Remo pizza. While it was good, it took way too long (maybe 20 min) The bartender took upon herself to check the order several times. Service was very good, but either kitchen was behind it or someone forgot the order. Anyways, it was a good pie. My second beer was a GG Patton which I enjoyed very much. While the bar team could not spend time with all patrons, there was a genuine sense of hospitality behind the bar. Never an empty glass.

I’m from south bend but didn’t get the pleasure to live here much after age 18, but I am so glad that the bend has an awesome, family friendly brewery! I got the pbbj burger which was great, but also tried my moms steak taco which was to die for.
Beer choice was the rotating tap Menage a Trios, which is a Belgian abbey style ale with 9%abv, and also got the Indiana mule which I loved– basically a Moscow Mule but with whiskey instead of vodka.
Will definitely come here again. And hope to sit in the bar– good crowd.

I deserve to be slapped for my last review. Evil Czech has really raised the bar and seem to be getting better and better. I think that the closing of the Plymouth location was the best decision for them and you can tell they have poured a ton of love into the Mishawaka location. Their Taco Tuesday has to be one of my favorite things ever! I love the Carne Asada taco. The balance of flavors is PERFECT! Cilantro, well cooked steak, avocado, mexican cheeses, YUM. I also have really enjoyed their burgers and salads.
They carry Journeymen Whisky which makes me very happy. I love a good Rye Whisky and I am not a beer drinker so I appreciate a brewery carrying more than craft beers. Evil Czech, you are one of my favorites, thank you.

15 dollars for three tacos… Nah. With the browning; size of a finger nail avocado and their «asada» tasting like pork i was pissed. Also, why the brown hard tortilla? Does the oil they fry it in need changed out? Or u guys like serving them over cooked? The service made the experience ten times worse. I wish i remembered to have asked my waitress for her name because i would be dropping that all up in this. She wasn’t too concerned with us, but more so her friends that were there. She was just rude and unpleasant. The beer was alright. I wont be going back by choice

Have you been wondering where to get a good brunch on Sunday mornings after a Saturday night out? If so, this is the place!
Evil Czech names their brunch the «hangover brunch» and whether you’re hungover or not. it hits the spot! $ 15.95 for an adult and $ 9.95 for a child every Sunday from 11:00 am — 3:00 pm.
The brunch features just about every item they offer on the menu in a small plate size. It’s everything you want in a brunch from quiches and waffles to tacos and mac & cheese. It meets the true standards of brunch.
Since Evil Czech has more of a unique menu than most restaurants, this is the time to try all they have to offer. I promise you, you’ll be dying to come back!

I went to Evil Czech with a group of friends for dinner on my birthday — it came highly recommended and did not disappoint!
I ordered the chicken asada street tacos as well as the «menage a trois» mac and cheese. The tacos were perfectly balanced. They had a cool texture with both a tortilla and a hard shell underneath (surprisingly good), flavorful chicken, and really tasty pico de gallo to top it off. And the menage a trois mac — loaded with pork carnitas, pastrami and goose bacon — was an explosion of flavor… you have to try it.
The place has a great, subtly-​trendy vibe all around, friendly wait staff, reasonable prices on food, a wide selection of house-​brewed beers (and a view into the brewery). It’s a great place to go with a group of friends… especially if they’re willing to share because everything is so good.

Food was really amazing!
I had a Mule,. Soooo good! Also had a flight; each beer (even the IPA’s which I don’t normally care for were really good!)
I can’t say one negative thing!
Our waiter (Johnathan) was SUPER patient and awesome! Over all– I’d love to come back again!

A must-​stop if you’re on I-​80. Delicious craft beers with a wide selection starting at only $ 4.50 for a pint (!) and great food at reasonable prices. Stopped over here with my girlfriend on our way out west because it was a convenient 5 minutes off the interstate. I ordered the grilled cheese and she had the pork corn dogs. The grilled cheese had multiple spicy cheeses, sriracha, and peppers. Spice was fantastic and not overpowering and the thing didn’t fall apart as you were eating. Her corn dogs had legit smoked pork shoulder in them! I almost wish I’d ordered that instead.
Two pints and two entrees came to something like $ 30. Good bang for the buck and a very friendly staff made this a great experience.

Great new addition to the area! Went on a busy football game weekend that I came in town for so it was quite busy. The large bar, open seating area is nice for drinks +/​-​apps while waiting for a table. Very accommodating of large groups. The décor is unique and fun. Halloween decorations were well done!
Fried guac I found to be more a novelty than that exceptional– good, don’t get me wrong, but wasn’t dying to have it again. Fried portion is too thick. Large pretzel appetizer is delicious.
Entire party was satisfied with the food. Can’t go wrong with a burger. Salads are delicious and served uniquely in a pizza crust bread bowl. I did not personally order the pizza but it looked amazing.
Local beers were quite good with just big enough of a selection. Service was great and again tolerant of large groups– even offered to split checks!

The brewery has definitely had some kinks to work through as they navigate the world of craft beers. There have been obvious ups and downs as they settle into a menu that works and a staff that cares and knows their stuff. But, I’ve stuck with it and I’m glad I did because it seems like they are settling into a new (and excellent) normal. I guess you could call me a regular… but this time I finally had a fantastic experience at the evil czech. So now, I’m finally going to write a review
When we walked through the door we were greeted with a genuine smile and welcome. The hostess explained we could seat ourselves in the bar area or that we could let her know if we preferred the dining room and she would get us a table right away. After taking a look at some of the merchandise (apparel, spirits, and glassware) we chose the bar.
Upon sitting at the rail we were greeted by Aaron who had excellent in depth knowledge about the brews and a willingness to share it. We debated over appreciation for beer styles as I sipped my flight and looked over the new sleek (read – better organized and simpler without losing flare) menus.
We chose the drunken Irish nachos (sans olive and pickled jalapeño) and a wood fire chicken and chorizo pizza. While waiting for the food Aaron expertly engaged all guests at the rail while still maintaining perfect attention to detail.
Our food was quick and it was honestly perfectly crafted. Other times I’ve avoided the pizza because the crust wasn’t quite right. But this time the crust was crispy on the outside with just the right amount of fluffiness on the inside. The nachos– oh man. They actually have a French fry base…
And despite being drenched in an amazingly creamy ipa beer cheese, smoked pork carnitas and pico de gallo… The fries remained crispy and obviously delicious.
The brews have become much more consistent over the past couple months. I was visiting with a friend who is a proclaimed beer newbie so I chose a flight with the more «fun» flavors with lighter hop profiles. We got:
Gypsy: chamomile wheat, spicey-​ness of tea mixed with a sweetness of honey makes a seriously refreshing brew for people that aren’t looking for a hop punch
Blackbeard’s Delight (coffee infused): Rye IPA this one is so fun because it tastes like
Coffee up front then beer at the finish.
O’keefe’s: Irish red– they previously had a «hoppy» Irish red that became a favorite of mine… This one is MUCH more mild in hop profile with a slight malty-​ness to it. I wouldn’t pick it to fill my 16 oz but it wasn’t bad. Worth a try if you like traditional Irish reds… Beautiful Amber color and brewed by a true Irishman
Voodoo: vanilla rye porter I think this one scares people because it looks so dark (like a stout) but this is a MUST TRY :) awesome vanilla flavor… Much fuller body than previous batches and a classic porter malt finish
Bad Johnny: cider This one is dangerous! Crisp tart flavor with the perfect hint of spice and sweet to balance it out plus a pretty high abv watch out :) it’s delicious
As our meal (and debate about honey presence in the chamomile wheat beer «gypsy» with Aaron) came to an end– we mentioned our need to cleanse our pallet and Aaron wittily filled a tiny taster cup and said «you want honey taste? This is honey taste.» He gave us honey water and it really did wash out all the mix of flavors. It was funny, creative, and a good way to finish up the meal.
Great job Evil Czech! You know I’ll be back for many more.

Went to dinner at the Evil Czech Brewery on a Saturday around 7. The place was pretty busy and we ended up having an hour wait. Like a lot of new restaurants, they use the text message system to let you know when you table is ready, which I still think is awesome. You are able to go grab a beer from the bar while you wait if you so desire. There are quite a few beer options to choose from and they will gladly give you a description of each beer if you ask… or just look on the back of the t-​shirts they have for sale or in the «baseball card» style beer menu (Awesome!). You are sure to find something you will enjoy.
Speaking of beer, not only do they offer many varieties, they offer different amounts all at different prices. You are also able to order a flight of 5 different beers at 5 oz each (not sure on the price). The food consists of your typical brewpub options and there is a lot to choose from. I went with the Chicken Asada tacos (2 or 3) and it comes with a small bowl of rice and beans. They were very tasty, not the best I’ve ever had, but still good. I would be interested in trying their other taco creations sometimes.
Since the place was packed (I think Ivy Tech’s graduation was that day) it was very noisy. Luckily we were against the wall in a booth underneath the giant denim American Flag (cool) and were able to communicate with each other easily. If we were out in the middle of the dining area, I think it would have been more difficult. Our waitress was very nice and chatty without being overly intrusive. She also helped us out with our drink selections and answered any questions that we had.
Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, nothing special, but would definitely go back even if it was just to try some more beer.
