The service was great — fast, efficient, and kind. However, the food was not. Eveything was super stale and old. I got a Fat Hawk — the bread was stale, the fries were stale, the cheesestake did not taste fresh, and the chicken tenders were dry. Every bite I took felt as if it was getting stuck in my chest; i couldn’t even eat more than a quarter of the sandwich. I haven’t had a Fat sandwich since college, but I remember they did NOT taste like this… Super disappointed :(

Ah the disappointment! The lure of «fat» sandwiches brought me here however I will not be returning. The counter person was so disengaged with the customers that she literally faced the kitchen all night and wouldn’t even respond to people. She should be working for the DMV. I ordered a Fat Tony… dry, dry, dry, and not even Luke warm and did I mention expensive? Sorry but this place just doesn’t live up to the grease truck reputation of the food to strives to deliver. I wish them luck and hope the succeed but will definitely need to step up their game and re-train the counter person.

Place has went nothing but downhill. It’s obvious they have went for quantity over quality. They have changed everything from their bread to the chicken fingers. Tonight was my last straw. I ordered 3 cokes and they have the audacity to deliver 3 watered down fountain drinks? Are you fucking kidding me? What take out place not only doesn’t carry cans of soda but fails to mention their sending you over priced, watered down fountain crap. Just bad business.

The reason I’m giving cars 3 stars is because I tried their food at the Montclair tasting and loved their mini slider burger. However, after being very excited knowing they deliver. I was sadly disappointed. My fiancé and I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich, cars cheeseburger and the philly cheese steak(with no onions) with fries and onion rings. The order took 50 minutes for delivery, which I guess is standard. However the fries were cold.(Typical for a delivery order but maybe packaging them differently?) The burger was delicious. The crispy chicken sandwich was good. My only main issue was the cheesesteak. The first bite I took, a very large portion of hard gristle came right out with my bite. The flavor was enjoyable however a little unexpected with the cheese sauce mixed in with the philly sauce. It almost reminded me of a sloppy joe philly. Overall, I would potentially try this place again at the store. Did I love it? No way. Did it leave me disappointed? A bit. The flavor was there, but the surprise in my cheese steak(twice) and it being delivered very cold. 3 stars.

I can’t speak for the whole menu, but their classic cheesesteak and cheese fries are delicious! I order from here pretty regularly and never had any issues. I call ahead for pick up and when I walk in I don’t think I’ve waited longer than 5 minutes. Customer service has gradually been getting better and better. I think in the beginning things were a little shaky, but it seems like they are being a lot more conscious as to the individuals they are hiring. Yes it can be a little pricy, but overall I’m satisfied :)

Two words: FRENCHFRIES. I’m not sure if they just made them fresh when I placed the order(seemed like it… because I waited a really long while for them), but they were well worth the wait. My only regret was choosing against getting the larger size. I also got a black and white cookie milkshake, which was pretty good but nothing spectacular. I prefer shake shack’s any day. I remember it being a little expensive, but being too hungry to go anywhere else at that point. One star off for the excessive wait(even though I was the only person there) and the price.

Based on previous ratings, CARS was just what I expected… average. Poor customer service and average food. I had the Fat Tony and if you like deep dried food then it’s a good sandwich. They were not accepting credit/debit cards when I was there and the cashier was shocked when I asked where I could find the closest ATM.

***update: this place must change some of their staff… Specifically the employees they have answering their phones! They need to be trained on their customer service skills ASAP. There is a woman who answers the phone who is the worst! Unfortunately for this reason I will not be ordering any longer!!***

Unfortunately this establishment has gone downhill. Extremely rude staff. Always an attitude when you call in an order. The wait is ridiculously long. For these reasons my family and I will take our business elsewhere.

Absolutely horrible!!! I ordered 2 sandwiches online for delivery. It took an hour an a half to get deliver to Verona. When it was finally delivered the bag reeked like cigarette smoke. DONOTORDER

Average, but overpriced for how little you get. Everything tasted alright, but they really skimped on the ingredients, considering they cost 30−50% more than traditional pizza and sandwich places. My 12″ sandwich only had 2 small chicken fingers and 2 small moz sticks mixed with 7 – 8 small fries. The outside inch and a half on each side was just bread. By comparison, the 8″ sandwich measured 2 inches shorter and had the same amount, if not more ingredients for 5 bucks less. So don’t waste your money ordering the large size, it just adds bread. Hard to call these sandwiches«fat.» Overall about the same amount of meat and stuffing as a Subway sandwich which is famously priced 60% cheaper. They are higher quality than fast food places lime that, but so is any other sandwich place. But other sandwich places give 2−3x as much for your money. Sadly, probably not going back.

Used to order from here frequently because even at 1am the food was fresh and hot. The last 3 times have been a joke. Time before last the food had clearly sat around under a heat lamp and was soggy and unappealing.(1hr and 45 mins after ordering) Everywhere has a bad night sometimes, so about 2 weeks ago I placed another late night order– burger, chicken fingers/fries and onion rings. GROSS. The fried stuff was CHEWY, and the burger was cold anyway. When I called to complain, I was given a credit for the whole order(I will say, this was nice of them.). TONIGHT I called to use the credit, much earlier(around 6:30pm) figured there would be enough dinner orders to get fresh cooked food… they brought my friend’s chicken fingers and an order of once again heat lamp chewy waffle fries and forgot my sandwich entirely! They used to be awesome, WHATHAPPENED?! Until they get back on their game, I won’t be ordering from there anymore. Not worth the $ for cold, soggy shit I need to reheat anyway. Let alone waiting MINIMUM an hour and a half for delivery.

Very creative names for their sandwiches! Although their food is a little expensive I truly enjoyed it. I had the fat milf and I can eat the other half… I would definitely go back again. Delivery was fast also.

Great forewarning: if you call for delivery and would like to add to your order, you can’t do it over the phone. Apparently, the staff needs to look into your eyes to make any changes.

I love the food. I really do. I’m from New Brunswick originally and grew up around the grease trucks, and this place does a decent job in its stead since moving up here. However, the two stars is solely for the terrible service. I distinctly remember ordering from them years ago only to wait over an hour, and living literally around the block. I live across town now, but still, as I type this, have been waiting an hour and half for two sandwiches. When we called, just moments ago, we were told our food hadn’t left the store by a rude employee who told us she didn’t appreciate our attitude. Thanks ma. If you plan on ordering, be prepared to wait an immense amount of time for delivery. Or just get off the couch and go there I guess.

I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now so I stopped by last night. I have to say it is now my top #1 fav spots in fat sandwiches over fat stacks and fat house BUT I’m giving 4 star because they are a bit pricey. I don’t mind paying 8 $ for the sandwich but the fire balls were 7 $ and they only gave 6. Really? That Deff. Wasn’t worth it. And they weren’t that enjoyable either. Not for 7 $. For that I could of got a whole other fat sandwich and got rolled home. I’m no cheapy when it comes to food either I’ll make it rain and blow a stack… so maybe if they were worth it I would of been more of a happy customer. Oh and I also had a peanut butter shake. That was delightful I had no complaints. I will come back again but only for the sandwiches and shakes. The appetizers can stay mad about it.

Im writing this review 3 yrs after my original review. I’d like to say my palette has matured and subsequently i needed to update my review. Unfortunately that is only a minuscule portion of my reasoning for reviewing. Last summer my cheat days where many and frequent so i spent a lot of late nights and lunches at Cars. I worked within biking distance so it was easily accessible for me. I’d admit my late night visits i was usually inebriated leaving my opinion on the food moot. During my work days i would grab a Fat Hawk or Fat Pete w/a side of fries because they where legitimate financial choices. I would order a large 12 inch for $ 11 and i would receive a sandwich that i could have half of for lunch and half for later. Occasionally i would not even finish half in one sitting when i ordered a side of fries. Consistency was on point and the timing although wasn’t as consistent it was understandable due to their constant busyness. A year later everything has changed. I’ve frequently considered asking them if they’re under new management. More than 50% of the time my order is incorrectly executed. Some its wet asked for a dry sandwich while other times they are plain out giving me the incorrect sandwich. The sandwiches have become smaller every time i’ve gone this year. Sometimes missing ingredients while other times just skimping on ingredients. It no longer seems like a budget meal to me if my Fat sandwiches look like Skinny sandwiches. They even changed the bread! I’m a huge bread snob so that was just disappointing. It honestly seems like someone came in and tried to cut as many corners as possible to save money and they fired all the chefs in exchange for staff that seems to not care.

Ordered a couple of sandwiches after a late night coming home from Six Flags. Ordered through their website and the order was ready in about 20 – 25 minutes. No problems with ordering or getting the order on time. The place was PACKED when we picked up our order and some of the workers looked kind of frazzled, but everything moved along at a good pace. The sandwiches we had were good and larger than expected. I had customized my order online and was pleasantly surprised that they got everything right, even though it was so busy. Not the best sandwich I’ve ever had, but for a late night craving it certainly hits the spot. I wouldn’t go back if other places were open but this is by far better than a drive to McDonald’s at 1 in the morning.

In honor of the new year and all those resolutions that I set forth, I have decided to do my first review on an eatery that fosters fat sandwiches and late night eating. What better way to begin a brand new year than stuffing myself silly with an incredibly delicious sandwich that literally brought my blood pressure to near stroke-inducing level! Well let’s just say that the first few days of the new year really doesn’t count towards those resolutions… or should I say the first few months. Anyways you’re not living life to the fullest unless your very life is flashing before you! So here goes nothing 2015, I’m ready for some good times, good food, and good people, and CAR’s Late Night Delivery has plenty of that good food in spades. I don’t know about how others feel but sometimes when I’m at a deli or a restaurant I have such a difficult time ordering what I want. That’s because I’m craving all kinds of things at once. The advent of fat sandwiches have been a saving grace. CAR’s steps up to the plate and tries to give their customers a taste of that elusive sandwich nirvana. When it was my turn to experience the deliciousness, I was truly in heaven. My heart raced because of how good it was and maybe because I was having a minor heart arrhythmia. Irregardless I still thoroughly enjoyed my Fat Pete. Oh Fat Pete! May you always be the symbol of plumpy goodness for my experience with you was extraordinary. The combination of cheesesteak, chicken tenders, bacon, mozzarella sticks, and buffalo ranch dressing is a cacophony of orgasmic, cholesterol-raising flavors! Every bite of that fat sandwich was whispering sweet nothings in my ears and all I could hear was the soothing melody of Wagner’s «Ride of the Valkyries» all the while. To help me down such an incredible sub creation, I paired it with a sweet and creamy strawberry milkshake. A shake that’s perfectly blended that allowed me to suck with minimal effort deserves praise on my part. That combo still brings tears to my eyes even days after I made my fateful visit to CAR’s. For 2015 I know there will be many more visits to come. It’s great to find hidden gems among many other diamonds in so many places thanks to Unilocal.Had I not looked on my trusted Unilocal app, my friend Kar and I would have never known about CAR’s. Because the new year is all about new beginnings, I couldn’t think of a better place to review than CAR’s specially since I visited the second day of the new year. If CAR’s is any indication of the good places that I’m about to discover this coming year with Unilocal’s help, well I say bring it on! Who cares about those damn new year’s resolutions anyways…
