Spice II is now my go-to Thai takeaway place in Montclair. There are a lot of options in the area, but the location(I can walk over to pick up my dinner) and the price(there’s a place in Upper Montclair where chicken pad thai costs $ 17!) at Spice II are great. The staff is friendly too, even when you’re just taking away, you’re treated just as well as a paying, tipping customer at a table. And on another note — I’m allergic to shrimp so I’m always a little wary of Thai food because so many dishes contain shrimp or shrimp/fish sauce. When I expressed my concern about my order, I was assured that my food would be cooked without any shrimp contents. So thank you, Spice II, for accommodating my allergy!

Not as good as I thought. My friend told me it was a dive but I still came in based on the reviews and tried the mango chicken the other day when walking around the neighborhood. The sauce was very sweet and I could not taste any mango flavor of it. I really regretted for not listening to my friend.

Love this place! Small and intimate! Very modest not over the top! The food was divine! Very spicy just the way I like it. Ordered the Thai ginger stir fry and Roti with the yellow curry and chicken! Will definitely be back. Very affordable!

I’ve only ever had take out from here but the green curry and beef with ginger sauce are awesome. Everything seems fresh and they’re very friendly. Excited to dine in one day!

Better than Spice I. I have no idea where Spice I is. But it’s clearly better! I started with Tom Kha and there was a richness of flavor. Unfortunately there was a meagerness of portion. A bit expensive — okay, quite expensive for two sliced mushrooms and three bits of chicken in broth. The bowl was deceptively large for what came inside. Skip the soup and get a different appetizer. I then had Pad See Ew for dinner, and that was better proportioned with more meat(I got beef). I didn’t leave stuffed, but at least the dinner filled me up. Again, delicious rich flavor, way better than the relatively pedestrian Pad Thai.(Please stop getting Pad Thai. It’s a caricature of whatever it used to be. It’s a purely American dish now.) I asked for both my dishes as hot as possible. Thai hot. It came out meh. Maybe medium to hottish. I can’t win. Oh, and the«ice water» they brought to the table was lukecold. And I ordered black lychee tea, and it was just a cup with a teabag. Couldn’t get an entire pot of tea. The good news is I’m not sure I was charged for it, but the bad news is I think I was overcharged on the appetizer, so it evens out. Wasn’t worth the fuss. We then sat for awhile waiting for the check. Things sure slowed down at that point from the relatively decent service beforehand. 5 star food. 4 star ambience, could be better. 3 star service. A bit too expensive, and some oddly off details. Nothing that can’t be fixed. But at these prices, those details should be right.

The food was good, and I liked that there were vegetarian/vegan options(especially that they don’t use fish sauce in their food like many Thai restaurants do). Service was friendly, except they forgot to bring us the Thai ice tea until very late. Also, they didn’t warn us that the kitchen was closing so we didn’t have a chance to order dessert.

Popped in here before a show at the Wellmont. They do take reservations, which I recommend as it got full quickly. As the line started to grow, I appreciated when our server very politely asked a lingering table who already paid if they could wrap up. We had the shrimp pad thai(5) and tilapia garlic(4). The shrimp pad thai is a must have! The noodles were cooked perfectly and packed with flavor while not being too salty. However, their entrée size is somewhat small, we could have gone for another dish if we had more time.

Typical Thai-American eatery. The tom yum has strong notes of lemongrass, easily more prominent than any other remaining component of the soup. The pad Thai is overwhelmingly sweet(definitely oriented toward the sweeter American palate) and the noodles somewhat sadly limp. You’ll have considerably better luck with the fried rice, seasoned with soy sauce and denoting a hint of wok hei. The pineapples are definitely canned though. Come here to satisfy a quick craving, but look elsewhere if you’re truly hungry for Thai.

Really loved my first time at Spice ll(not affiliated with local restaurant Spice in Belleville). The entrée was great, they accepted our late seating(9pm folks, yea, NJ restaurants close too early), service was fast, friendly, and the décor very intimate. I had the Thai salad to start(no tofu), iceberg lettuce, and decent peanut dressing, but for 6 bucks, I expect hard boiled egg, ground peanut and tofu, the presentation is cute, but it’s a small salad without the usual ingredients. The Massamun curry however was really good. The curry was not too heavy(but I like heavy too), had the addition of pineapple to the usual potatoes, carrots and peanut. The beef was pretty good too. I will definitely return, the ambiance and service were enough to make up my picking on the salad.

Excellent place for Thai food. I had heard great review about this place, but recently got opportunity to visit. The ambiance is OK. Its not a huge place. The food is just awesome. I loved their green curry. It was just amazing. Will certainly recommend this place for spicy thai !!

The food at this place is always great. I can’t ever complain about the quality of Thai food that comes out of that kitchen. Pad Thai was a little off last time I went, though, but that could be just me being bratty that day because I was slightly annoyed by the owner who interrupted the conversation I was having with a friend I was eating with. She tends to do that every time I come here with this friend. Not a fan of that. Other than that… food is great. Restaurant is nice and quiet.

Excellent Thai in an excellent location. I’ve tried quite a few Thai place over the years and can say Spice II would compete with the best of them. I was in a party of two having dinner on a Saturday night without a reservation and we were seated right away. The service was without fault and very attentive without being overbearing. I had the mango salad and green curry chicken. The mango salad was not overly sweet as my dining companion feared and was excellently seasoned. The only negative was the lettuce bits on the bottom that ended up absorbing to much dressing for my taste. I still finished 95% of the salad. The green curry was a perfect mix of creamy(probably coconut) and spicy with lots of chicken. I would suggest an appetizer with veggies as they did not skimp on the meat. Biggest negative here was the rice was not enough for the size of the curry but I also didn’t ask if extra rice was complimentary.

Spice II is one of my favorite Thai places in Montclair. I have been going here ever since I found them in Bloomfield and I am so happy that they moved to Montclair several years ago! I often order the Pad Thai with pineapple and it is amazing! Their staff are very friendly and helpful. Sherry the owner is amazing and she always come by to everyone table to see how things are. I highly recommend eating here.

Spice II is my go-to take-out spot in Montclair. I usually go for the massaman curry or ginger stir-fry. Interestingly, when I order the curry, it comes out a little differently each time — differently shaped carrots, whether there are potatoes, pineapple dosage, thickness of the sauce… This might annoy some people, but I enjoy the suspense! The curry flavoring itself is always on point, and I haven’t found a better one yet in the area.

I have been going to a bunch of thai restaurants lately. Maybe it’s the asian culture and upbringing I have, or my friends just love thai food, haha. Came here for a friend’s post-graduation ceremony. I wasn’t craving something way too heavy or meaty, so I ended up sticking with the Thai Basil Fried Rice made spicy, where the most flavor lies. I also ordered your typical drink at these restaurants: Thai Iced Tea. Firstly, the Thai Iced Tea was just how I liked it. A great mix of all the ingredients together spurred into one nice asian drink. It was definitely refreshing to drink from when the spice of the Fried Rice kicked in. Mind you, I have an average to below-average tolerance for spicy food. The Thai Basil Fried Rice was awesome for me. It had the kick I wanted from the spice, the flavor of the moist beef, and the smooth vegetables, savory and spicy. In addition, they have a wall where famous people(Passion Pit apparently loved this restaurant) left their comments on the wall. It leaves a nice and unique touch to the restaurant because it gives the establishment that personal flare. I would definitely come back. Food: 4⁄5.

This is our second timer here, and they’ve been able to keep us at this table for more than a hour on a Monday night: that tells a lot about a restaurant. It speaks volumes of satiety and great food. Tonight we ordered the Crispy Whole Fish and Thai Shrimp Fried Rice. Money well spent. We’re sitting here reviewing on Unilocal and smiling at each other. The ambience is casual and friendly. We fell comfortable and at ease to please our food curiosity tonight. The music is just right. The selection so far has been a mix of Alicia Keys to Sam Smith to Boys II Men. So you can imagine the kind of conversation such a mood incites. It’s BYOB as well and the service is swift and well oiled. Our food was here in no time and before we realized, we had eaten from each other’s plates. The fish– deboned and well digested by now. Eat here, and enjoy how pleasant Spice II is. So Good, So Thai. Good dining experience in the heart of Montclair. The fried calamari with the tamarind sauce was amazing. But, the sauce kind of smelled like feet. Overall — i’m glad I came, I hope to get something a little more unique as my main dish as I wasnt too thrilled with it.

Pretty darn good, we went in and it was ptetty quiet with plenty of seats. The waiter was very friendly and checked on us often. We got the curry puff pastries as an appetizer which was delicious. It came with a small dipping sauce which made an already nice sample even sweeter. I got the chicken stir fry and it was very nicely done. Nice and hot with just the right amount of rice. The ginger sauce was very flavorful and the vegetables were good as were the mushrooms and I normally don’t like mushrooms. The menu has a nice selection that definitely warrant a return visit. The only thing off was the music playing, it wasn’t just that it was top 40 pop music, but it was like on a loop of but a few songs. It was kinda funny but we only need to hear Katy Perry once. Otherwise a nice thai spot. Definitely consider a visit for the nice menu.

Spice II does serve some great Thai. The place is on the smaller side and tables are quite close. We made reservations just in case since we were a group of 6. It’s BYOB so my gals and I made sure to bring enough wine. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and recommended us a few appetizers to start off with. We had the mango salad which was delicious… sweet-savory. The dumplings were devoured so quick I don’t think I got to try one. I decided to order the Pineapple Shrimp($ 15) — crispy shrimp, pineapple, onions, peppers, in tamarind sauce. You get the choice of Mild, Medium, or Hot. Thank goodness I ordered mild because my friend decided to go for«Medium» and damn, she couldn’t even handle the heat– And she loves spice! My plate was just right, a nice kick to it, mixed with the flavors of pineapple and plenty of shrimp. It does come with a side of jasmine rice but if you want more you can get a side for only $ 1 ! –Yup, rice heaven. Of course, I had to try the other entrees, and I was a bit disappointed with their Pad Thai, it was lacking flavor. We had their fried ice cream which made everything better. The portions for everything was great and we were surprised by how inexpensive the entire dinner was for our group.
