The perfect egg tarts! The workers are not very welcoming, but other than that… egg tarts are perfect and so are the Portuguese egg tarts! Would definitely go back!

I love this bakery. The custard bao has an amazing topping and the filling is so rich it is hard to eat the whole thing. They run out early so I don’t know what tb get don’t make more. They also make a great ham and egg bao and a delicious curry beef bao that is the best! Everyone at work loves it when I buy bread from Jims’

I’ve come here for pastries like the yummy portuguese egg tart and recently bought a strawberry fruit cake. The workers aren’t the friendliest but the food is yummy. I liked everything I’ve tried.

We always walk across the parking lot after dim sum at NBC for tarts at Jim’s. It’s a small bakery but their po tarts and egg custards are the best I have ever had. They have a few cold pastries such as individual fruit tarts and cakes, and full cakes that are absolutely beautiful. We bought a mango cake from here a few months ago for a birthday and it was delicious. When you come, see what they have fresh out of the oven… usually on the pastry cart behind the cashier; these usually go fast. The service is impeccable! I am taking home a dozen po tarts, a dozen egg custards, and a whole sponge cake fresh out of the oven. I am going to be fat and awesome!!!

This place is JUST down the street(1 – 2 miles) from Huge Tree Pastry. This is dangerous(yet important) knowledge I’ve just acquired — so every time I’m either craving one or the other, I’ll be at both… :’) :’( Honestly I’ve never tried anything here except for their amazing: — Po Tarts @ $ 1.35 each(5⁄5 stars): Very creamy and sweet filling, and the outer layer is buttery & crispy. Super delicious. Heavier version of the regular egg tarts. — Egg Tarts @ $ 1.20 each(5⁄5 stars): Omg. Just as delicious, in a different way. This is the type of egg tart I grew up eating. The outer layer is thinner, but still buttery. The egg filling is sweet, smooth and delicious. Less heavy(less butter?) than the Po-Tarts, which is appreciated as well. oh and I also had their not-so-amazing — Black coffee(3⁄5 stars): Average coffee. Not bad. Nothing special. OVERALL I’ll be back for their po-tart and egg tarts. Maybe I’ll also try some of their other bakery items(saw a ton of bread options) but maybe not. Why stray from perfection? I already know that their signature items are the po tarts and egg tarts!!! ***Minimum purchase $ 10 for credit cards***

We originally ordered a two tiered half sheet cake for a party of 40~ at nbc seafood. It was about $ 50. We found out our kid has sensitivities to citrus recently so we changed it to mango for about $ 20 more. It was worth it. The cake was covered with mango slices. Everyone loved the cake and mangos were super fresh. Fyi if you have it delivered it would be $ 25 since they make it offsite. Luckily, we just had to take it across the lot. They do provide knife and candles. Be sure to ask if they forget.

12.26.15: Waiting time for dim sum was ridiculous. So we walked around hoping there’s a place we can get a snack in the meantime to hold us over. Well well in the same plaza you can see Jim’s Bakery across the way. I was definitely excited for all the fresh baked goods that they have. I was craving something that will hold me up until it was time for dim sum. I had the pastry bread with chicken filling. Hit the spot. Thanks Jim’s Bakery! :)

Living in Monterey Park, I have had lots of pastries from various asian bakeries. This is one of the best ones that I have had. The moment that you walk in, you are engulfed in a wonderful sweet and buttery aroma. The selection of bread is a bit smaller than the rest, but I generally come for the pineapple buns, egg tarts, and butter rolls(which they have a lot of :)). I also got the tiramisu cake for my gradma for her birthday. The cake was very cheap($ 13) but is was such a well made cake and had the fluffiest breading and creamiest filling. There is Wi-FI but there aren’t too many seats for hanging out. It is a place where you literally go in, grab your pastries and peace. Parking is on the street or in the parking lot(though the parking lot is shared with a boba place, LA Fitness and a large restaurant).

So many items to choose from… so I ordered an assortment. Got the po tarts, egg tarts, chicken pies, almond croissants, sausage rolls and cream filled cones. It was ALL good. They ladies there were super nice and helpful. The tarts alone are a reason to go back!

If you want to know how amazing the Golden Gate Bakery’s egg tarts actually taste like, then order one of egg tarts(regular or po tart) at Jim’s Bakery and you will get a glimpse of greatness. I knew that I had to bookmark this place when few Unilocalers claimed that Jim’s Bakery egg tarts were better than the Golden Gate Bakery’s egg tarts in San Francisco(talk about a bold statement). Jim’s Bakery shares the same parking lot as NBC Seafood and LA Fitness. *** Egg Tart($ 1.20) and Po Tart($ 1.35): Po tart tasted slightly creamier and sweeter than regular egg tart. Both tarts tasted slightly too sweet for my taste, but creaminess and semi-solid texture were compatible to Golden Gate Bakery’s egg tarts. I would even go so far as to say that these are probably the best egg tarts you will find in the Southern California.(4.5÷5) *** Look these tarts aren’t cheap, but you can really taste the quality here.

Been awhile since I have stopped by here. They are known for the Portuguese Egg Tart — $ 1.47 The price has gone up since I last tried it. Very similar to the Egg Tart you get at dim sum but they are larger. They also brulee the top which adds a nice caramel note to it. Crust is flakey. Custard is eggy and sweet. Needs to be eaten right away or retoasted because it gets soggy quick.

Ugh, everytime I come here they are ALWAYS out of the po tats(portuguese egg tarts) so I guess I am a little bitter. Their original egg tarts are standard/good, but nothing I would drive out of the way for. As for the rest of the baked items, they were nothing special and I ordered a whole box of various ones to try. I would for sure avoid one with potatoes in it because that was just odd and would not recommend that one to anyone. I will come back one day to try the po tats, but probably will try to call in advance. Other than that, this was just another average asian bakery.

Pay a little less than $ 3 for a delicious Portuguese egg tart and coffee. As of 12/2015, it does not look like they serve Illy coffee anymore. The egg tarts alone are worth a visit! There is very limited seating inside – four people might be able to fit on the outdoor bench seating used for indoors. Parking should not be a problem, but avoid peak gym hours because the 24 Hour Fitness is close by.

The egg tarts from here are like little pieces of heaven! I also purchased a mango cake a while back that was delicious. Regular egg tarts are around $ 1.30 and Portuguese egg tarts are around $ 1.40. There is a 50 cent fee for boxes with less than a $ 6 charge. There are two small seating areas and a sign that says ‘free wifi.‘ Will definitely stop by when I am in the area for their amazing egg tarts. I recommend calling first to ask if they have any in stock. My first time at the bakery, I did not see any. For this particular time, I asked and waited 20 mins for the fresh batch(2:30pm, Saturday).

I recently coordinated the flowers and cake for a family member’s wedding. I had less than four weeks to design the cake, do cake tastings, and order it, so we were on a very tight timeline(and budget). I’m really glad that I went with Jim’s bakery. I was very hesitant at first, because there were few to no wedding cake photos on their Unilocal site. It seems like their specialty is egg tarts, but I walked in and asked about Wedding Cakes. The employees in the front were very helpful, and left me with a few binders and a wedding cake pricing sheet. I had a very, very specific cake design in mind, mostly because I am obsessed with cake and had probably spent 30+ hours looking at cake designs before deciding on «the one». So basically, I was a very difficult customer for them to work with, LOL. Oops. Anyway, I showed them a printed image of the cake design, with a ton of modifications that weren’t even printed out, and one of the employees wrote down all of it and set everything up. Of course, given that I was hyper focused on the cake being perfect, I ended up calling an employee named Louis about four times the week before the wedding. I must have sounded crazy with my insane cake questions(ie: «what kind of ventilation do you have in your transport vehicle?!» Oh yeah true story). He was very patient with me, and was able to describe my cake design back to me exactly how I had wanted it(like the ombré gold ribbon going from dark to light in a specific direction). I feel like I am rambling. To get to the point, I ordered a three-tier strawberry and whip cream cake with pillars in between, and provided an ombré gold ribbon for them to wrap around each layer. For a 6″ x 10″ x 12″ cake(that would feed 85 – 100 people per the Internets) it was a grand total of $ 143, plus $ 25 delivery. Total, total steal. The cake was one of the highlights of the wedding. I was so, so, so happy about it. It was exactly what I had imagined in my head… Almost better. I shed a tear when it was brought in, and Louis himself showed up with another coworker to place the cake on the cake table. They were so friendly, nice, and detailed. Major props. The cake was delicious. Fluffy and light and not too sweet. I hope the pictures speak for themselves. I would highly recommend Jim’s bakery for your cake needs.

It was my dad’s 80th birthday so I asked him what kind of cake he wanted. I said, «Chocolate?» He said, «No.» I said, Strawberry?” He said, «Hmmm, I guess.» I said, «Mango?» He said, «Yeah!» Well, Jim’s makes the best Mango cake, so it was decided. While I was picking up the cake, the fresh baked rack was filled with egg custard tarts and of course I had to get them. Sooo yummy when they’re still warm. Good call Dad! Delicious!

Nice little Asian bakery with a small but good selection of sweet and savory treats. Service was fantastic, the goodies all fresh and well priced. I kept it simple with an egg tart and a chocolate croissant and while both were tasty and baked very well, none of them wowed me to be the best or unique in any way. I do like that everything is baked fresh all day in house, it smells fantastic in here, just the execution was a bit bland, tasty, but not worth going out of my way to come back for.

Jims bakery was pretty much a hole in the wall. Like literally, the size of the store was quite tiny. Their menu is quite limited and not as held with variety as you may hope. If you want ice coffee — they dont have it. Only hot. They also offer egg tarts and a few other types of bread. They also have the special which is $ 2.75 for hot coffee and a baked good. They offer free wifi — but I think you need to ask the cashiers at the desk for the password. Seating was limited. I think this place was okay — but nothing too special in my opinion.

Nice little bakery in a plaza with plenty of parking. There have free Wi-Fi here, but there are only 2 tables available for seating. The cashiers are friendly and provide good coffee/tea service. The most popular items here are the Portuguese Milk Tarts and the Egg Tarts. Ordered: — Egg Tarts. $ 1.00 each I love egg tarts. These are one of the best I’ve had(in L.A.). The crust is sooo good. It has a really nice flaky crust, yum! — Portuguese Milk Tarts. $ 1.20 each These Milk tarts are really good as well. Definitely worth a try. I actually prefer egg tarts, but this time I really found the Portuguese Milk Tarts to grow on me. Both egg tarts are so good, I really can’t choose between the two. So I just get both. The milk custard itself reminds me of a light condensed milk, very slightly sweet and super tasty. It complements the crust well! — Hot dog bun. $ 1.30 Decent hot dog bun. An average hot dog bun. — Illy Coffee. Nice and strong coffee, just the way it should be. Good quality coffee! — Green tea. $ 1.00

Cute little bakery. Hong Kong style, situated inside a large plaza. There are other businesses like NBC Seafood, LA Fitness, Mr. Baguette etc. Ample parking. They’re known for their Po Tarts(short for Portuguese style Tarts). Made with egg whites, similar to a Crème Brule. They also have Egg Tarts(Tan Tat). Flaky & eggy custards. They have a rack with fresh baked breads. Some are filled with various kind of meats, some are filled with fruits, creams, custards, & no fillings. Soft breads, Dinner rolls, Danish Loaves(a cross between a croissant & Hawaiian rolls) buttery & soft layers. You could also order Custom cakes for any occasion or purchase a already made cake featured in their display case. They have limited seating but you can grab a seat, order coffee & enjoy your baked goods there.
