Let me start off by saying that I joined Unilocal just to share my experiences at this place. It is conveniently located literally right next to the launch ramp we use when we fish Monterey Bay. I truly look forward to eating here after a day on the water. I’ve tried a few things here in the past and all was good. Then I tried the pastrami ruben sandwich and it’s all I’ve ordered the last few times. Yes, it’s rich(i.e. fatty), but trust me, that’s a good thing for pastrami. It should be mentioned that this isn’t pastrami that comes from the back of a Sysco truck in a big cryovac bag. They make it there, along with their salmon, in their smoker which located on the patio. In fact, the salmon the other reviewer whined about being out on the counter was probably on it’s way to or from this smoker. Now let’s talk about these rude owners and staff. A few weeks ago my friend went inside to put in our order and grab a couple beers while I waited on the patio with my dog. The guy working the counter suggested my friend try a couple of the beers to help him decide, and poured him some samples. Man, what a jerk. Today, the supposedly rude lady owner brought our sandwiches out to the patio and noticed my dog. She says«I’ll get her something.», and returns with a big bowl of meat trimmings and proceeded to feed my dog. Don’t you just hate people like that?. I don’t know, maybe I’ve just been lucky… every time I’ve been there.

I love this place. It’s like a European café with great smoked meats(especially Salmon) and good beers, in addition to homemade soup and lots of other choices. I don’t understand the negative comments about this place, this is a family business with integrity and character. if you want a smiling automaton, go to McDonalds!

THISPLACEIS A DUMP Where are negative stars when you need them? This is the worst place you could ever eat at. DONOT waste your time and money here. This is the most incredibly rude group of staff and owners you could possibly find AND the food is not good. Did I also mention the food is way over priced? The owner will charge you extra whenever she wants, it’s actually total BS. I went up to pay and she asked what I got and charged me more. I said, the price listed up on the board is 13.75. She then changed her charge of $ 15 to 14.50 for«tax». She said«This is America, we pay tax.» Well, yes, but I have eaten here before and I know the tax is already in the price of the food. On this particular day she just didn’t like me and thought it acceptable to be rude and lie to my face. I have also found her to be slightly racist on occasion. I shall never eat here again, and I will make sure no divers I dive with eat here. This place basically makes it’s living by being the only place to eat for divers. Wait until a food truck shows up and runs you out of business. I can’t wait for that to happen. And no I totally disagree with Erich N, the food is not good and not reasonably priced. It’s just that after diving in 50 degree water anything and everything tastes good. As a diver, I know the feeling and have confirmed with with other divers. Bottom line, don’t bother, there’s so many good places to eat at Fisherman’s Warf or Cannery Row. Why waste your money on this dump?

Was hard enough paying so much money for a Costco muffin, but really, having the proprietor be so rude? Come on.

I really think everyone else who has written reviews here has a skewed view of the world. Really. This place is great. Yes, the owners aren’t bubble-gum-snapping shiny-faced grinning idiots… so what? The service is efficient, the food is tasty, and it is very reasonably priced. And the owners? If you take 10 seconds you will discover they are quite nice people. Genuinely nice. Not: «I’ll flash you a fake smile so I can get a tip» nice. I came to Breakwater Cove for my PADIOWD certification, and ate here for four separate meals. Each time, the woman who rang me up was a model of efficiency. What did I order? Here’s my total. Boom. Done. Thank you. I rather appreciate this in the morning when all I want is my coffee… not chit-chat. Don’t gab at me before 10am thank you. In the afternoon, I returned for lunch. My turkey sandwich was excellent and fixed up in a snap. Nice, moist turkey. Fresh lettuce and condiments. Yum. I really wish I had time to stay for more, because their big plates smelled amazing. My diving buddy got the tri-tip with salad and was exceptionally pleased. But here’s the«proof-in-the-pudding» as it were: On my last dive day, I arrived ill and got progressively worse through the day. I went through my first dive and vomited upon surfacing. Blech. I felt terrible. Ok… maybe some water and nice hot soup to calm things down. I came to the café, got some turkey lentil… when it was brought to my table, I took one sip. Uh oh. Can’t do it. Although it would otherwise have been quite good… the slightly salty taste I couldn’t do. The guy delivering food and bussing later came by and I asked him to go ahead and take it away. Minutes later, the woman comes out to ask if everything is ok. I told her the soup was fine… but I just couldn’t eat because I felt terrible. She offered to make me something else… how about this, or that or the other. Eventually I decided that some plain fruit would probably be ok(not even on the menu). BAM. She comes out with a heaping bowl of watermelon, honeydew, blueberries and blackberries… and THEN she returns again to see how I’m feeling and to ask what ailed me. Much more like a concerned mother than a shopkeeper. I cannot comment about the other reviewers or their experiences, but if YOU come here I think you will find a solid meal and a store run by genuinely good people.

I’ve had the same experience as the first. This place does make a great breakfast burrito, but the owners are as inhospitable as can be. I was moving bait to the side, so I could grab 2 bags of ice in the chest style freezer and the male owner yells, «hey, what are you doing!» I told him I was getting some ice. And he kept looking at me as if I was trying to hump the freezer. I only eat here on surface intervals if I didn’t bring anything with me. Also, you need to make sure you have cash. This place does not take any form of payment other then cash. And they have no problem with telling you about their unwillingness to take any other form. They sigh and roll their eyes and sigh some more.

Rude. Like, our way or the highway. Order something now or get out(upon entering and finding a table) Old old meat in the tri tip. Didn’t eat it. Couldn’t eat it. Salmon sammy was good. Very very rude. Not certain what they scored on their last health inspection, but thinking not too high. The salmon for the sammy was sitting out on a table when I first got there and was still sitting out on the same table when I went back. Blech. Rude rude rude. Meh.
