Blume Salon

OK. I usually limit my reviews to pubs, restaurants and bars… but I am making an exception here. My wife has been on my case to get my hair cut but suggested that I try Blume Salon. Boy, was she right! I walked in to make an appointment and Amina took me in right away. (I guess I showed up at the right time).
She took the time to study (yes, study) my hair and then took care of it. Wow. I really liked her work. Definitely going back.

I’ve been coming here for exactly two years and in that time I’ve had three stylists and because they all keep leaving. And now the latest stylist I had is also leaving. I’m not quite sure why your stylists keep leaving? Sadly, I won’t be returning because four stylists in two years is not what I want.

Becky gives the best cut and color. She is skilled in attention to detail to better serve her clientele. Wonderful experience & professional work!

Amina (sorry if misspelled), you are a MAGICIAN! I have struggled with my extremely thick, dry, unruly, uneven textured, crazy curly hair for years. Usually I leave a hair salon with a fresh cut/​blow-​out straight, and the minute I wash my hair and style it naturally, I see the problems with the cut. Aminah cut my hair dry using the Deva Cut method. I have no idea what sort of magic she performed but she cut it at just the right angles, with just the perfect amount/​location/​assortment of layers to provide appropriate body and shape without giving the pyramid or clown look I usually have. My hair usually feels like a heavy carpet on top of my head, but not today! Amina transformed my heavy mop-​top into a well-​crafted assortment of curls that look bouncy and beautiful. I am very impressed at how even my curls are and how nice they are laying without falling flat or having excess volume/​frizz. I drank the kool-​aid and bought into the Deva Curl product line — I am excited to try the No Poo method and the new styling products. No they are not cheap, but I am hoping to mimic the salon-​look she created. Aminah showed me how to use the styling products appropriately and then to gently use a diffuser (which I always avoided because I thought it would give too much body). I really like how Aminah took so much time to explain everything she was doing and ask if I had any questions. I am so thrilled and I will definitely return every 10 weeks as suggested to trim/​reshape/​refresh.

Amina is incredible. I was born with curly hair and struggled for many years with finding an excellent stylist. The only time I have found someone this talented and caring was Beverly Hills and New York. Amina is the best. She has transformed my hair! She’s knowledgable and caring. She takes time to consult you, she actually listens and she can accomplish anything. She has helped me tremendously on what to do myself at home.
I would absolutely recommend her to anyone who has curly hair or just wants a terrific style!

I’ve struggled with getting the right haircut for years. Curly hair CAN NOT be cut the same way as straight hair. I didn’t realize how important it was to find a «curly salon»
Blume is it! Bridget is OUTSTANDING. I LOVE my hair now. It is effortless. She colors AND cuts the right way for curly hair. Looks so natural. I’ve been going there for a couple years now and I’ve always left more then satisfied. I wish I found them sooner. All those years struggling with my hair — never knew I had a choice.

I have curly hair. Anyone with curly hair knows how hard it is to find a stylist they like. After seeing a sign outside Blume advertising «curly haired specialists,» I immediately made an appointment and have been happy ever since. I see the same stylist regularly. She is lovely to chat with and always gives me good tips on how to care for my hair. Although I usually see the same stylist, last summer when she was away and I needed a cut I saw Stephanie and she was great as well. She asked a lot of questions about what I wanted my hair to look like and even showed me how to use a diffuser (which I had always thought would create frizz) to speed up the drying process. I immediately went to Ulta and bought one after my appointment.
I am always greeted when I arrive and offered a beverage. Everyone in the salon is very professional. You will never hear any of the stylists or staff speaking about other customers the way some do at other salons.
The only downside are some of the prices. I wanted a very simple up-​do for a wedding and it turned out to be $ 90 because apparently, no matter how intricate the do, its a one price fits all kind of system.
A good stylist is hard to find though, so until mine switches locations, I will deal the prices.

My first time going to Blume. I will go back, BUT I really wasn’t thrilled with their pushing of the Devacurl products. I got a good hair cut and the stylist listened to me and did what I wanted. She seemed very knowledgeable on curly hair, and I did learn a few things The location of the salon is a little challenging to get to off of 309. I had to do turn into the Texas Roadhouse and turn around to get into their parking lot. The salon itself was nice. Not too fancy but comfortable. The girl at the reception desk was very courteous and brought me water right away. The only thing I really disliked again about my experience was how they seem pushy on those Devacurl products. The Jr. stylist I had seemed absolutely giddy that I bought 4 of the products she used on me to the point I actually saw her make a giddy face to a co-​worker. Come on. I wasn’t thrilled about her immaturity but she did a good job cutting my hair and that’s what counts. I also inquired about their coloring services, which almost made me fall out of my chair. I color my own hair, so maybe I’m out of the loop, but I think paying over $ 100.00 for just a base color with a few highlights (not even full head) and again she was trying to sell me the «added» gloss treatment which is yet another $ 25 – 30 tacked on, so now you’re looking at well over $ 130 for color, not even including tip. No thanks. I’ll just stick with the haircuts for now, unless the product pushing gets too bad, then I’m off to another salon.

My daughter is 13 and her hair had changed with the hormones and was frizzy all the time no matter what we tried. She started straightening every day. I took her to Blume and she saw Lauren. She was wonderful with her and took the time to teach her how to treat her curls. My daughters hair looks beautiful and she hasn’t straightened it since. Even though the salon is an hour away. It is well worth the drive. I won’t take her anywhere else.

Just started getting my hair cut by Bridget. She does a nice job, spends a lot of time with you, and she is always very friendly.

I am a leo and my hair is truely my pride and joy so you can imagine how scared I was having someone new cut my hair. I have curly hair and have only had one other person really know how to handle curly hair. This salon is amazing, they really do train their stylists how to properly cut curly hair with a dry cut. My hair looks as good as it ever has.

I’ve been going to Blume for 4 or 5 years now and I have yet to be disappointed.
I was a little nervous going in today because Andrea (not sure of the spelling of her name, sorry) had been the only person to cut my hair in those past 4 or 5 years. I got a phone call last week though letting me know that Andrea had broken her wrist and wouldn’t be at the salon for my appointment. Naturally, I panicked. I was coming from NYC to visit my parents and was determined to not look a hot mess anymore, so I agreed to have my hair cut by another stylist, Stephanie. Everything was rescheduled over the phone. The receptionists at Blume are super friendly and really helpful too!
I’m totally not kidding when I say that I come here from NYC to get my hair cut either. For a really great curly cut at Blume, it costs about $ 50. In NYC, it costs $ 120 for a pretty mediocre one. It’s definitely worth the 2.5 hour drive for the savings and better quality.
Stephanie gave me a really great haircut today. I had been 6 months without one, so the ends of my hair were all straggly and gross looking. I looked a bit like a shaggy dog with super grown out layers. Miraculously she formed my unruly, inconsistently curly hair into a shoulder length bob that is super cute! It’s bouncy, clean cut (or rather, as clean cut as curly hair can look), and a great shape! So so so happy with it. I’m going to keep venturing from NYC to get my hair cut here.

I have naturally curly hair and have tried every product and every salon that says they specialize in curly hair and have never been happy until now. This is the first time in my life I have been truely happy with the stylist and my hair. (I was even happy with the morning hair I woke up with today.)
Bridget is so knowledgeable about curly hair and really takes the time to explain everything to you and work with you to figure out the best cut for you. (And yes, she has curly hair too!) She has a great personality and spent so much time with me I could not have asked for more. I’m not sure who was more excited about my hair, her or me.
Not to be undersold, Bridget also did a great job with my color.
The salon itself is very nice. It has a modern feel without being snooty. The receptionist and other stylists that were there were also very friendly and made you feel right at home.

I am always wary of trying out a new hair stylist, as my hair doesn’t obey the usual laws of nature and I’ve been burned in the past. But I was tired of driving over an hour back to my old salon in NJ and figured I should give Blume a chance. Amina has cut and colored my hair twice so far and I’m pretty sure these have been the best haircuts I’ve ever had. She’s a magician. So good, in fact, that after I convinced my reluctant husband to try her out, he actually scheduled another appointment without me having to force him. She fixed the mess Hair Cuttery made of his hair (she actually thought he had cut his hair on his own) and really took her time to get it just right, even shampooing him a second time so he didn’t go home all itchy-​like. So in addition to being a great stylist she just happens to be a really pleasant person to spend an hour or two with. If you’re looking for a new salon, make an appointment with Amina and she’ll fix you up. If, in fact, you need fixing.
