Finally stopped by this historic place. Heard about their delicious foods and fast curtesy service. 4 people in our group and we all ordered different things and they brought them out at the same time and each dish was hot. Excellent meal at a great price.

Wow! We did not know what to expect on our way from Burlington to Boston. If you are passing by or in the area stop by. Price wise this place is a dream and there is every type of food you could possibly want. We were so starving and it really hit the spot. The service is so friendly and quick! Eat here seriously!!!

Great restaurant. Love going there for brunch. Their waitresses are always welcoming and friendly, the food is incredible. A wonderful family restaurant. I feel like it represents Vermont well.

Wait staff was very nice. Stopped over to Montpelier for one night and wanted a place at a good price with a more home town feel and taste and this place delivered. The house maple vinaigrette was excellent on my salad.

Okay… let me preface this saying that it has been over a year since my last visit. We had been regulars for breakfast and lunch but had 2 awful meals(and poor service) a row, so decided to give it a wide berth. Could have been coincidence, could have been an untrained line cook, but whatever. However this visit was very different and dare I say, back to what we had experienced before those mishaps? I say, «Yes!» We went yesterday(Friday) and were greeted with what looked like new décor– wallpaper and decorations. The waitress was super friendly and polite, got our drinks right away. We both had breakfast– mine the steak and eggs, and his the Vermont special and a side of corned beef hash. These came pretty quickly, which was nice. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the steak was tender and delicious. The home fries could have been a bit crisper, but I’m super picky about my home fries. A BIG plus is they are offering gluten free bread– yay! My companion’s breakfast looked great, and he had enough left over to take home. His hash was a bit crunchy around the edges, just the way he likes it. The waitress checked in and brought coffee offerings regularly. The bill was of course, very reasonable for our breakfast. A very enjoyable meal. Welcome back to our list of favorite breakfast places, Wayside. You done good.

Best diner in Vermont and you can’t beat the price! Breakfast is served all day and it never disappoints. I’ve been coming here for years and won’t stop anytime soon. The Wayside Restaurant, Bakery & Creamery is a true Vermont landmark and a must stop for locals and out-of-staters!

«Live Free or Pie!» What better words to live by? My friends exposed me to this gem for the first time this summer and I seriously dream of their chocolate cream pie on the regular. If I lived close enough to eat there every day I’d be 500 pounds by now, and I wouldn’t regret it. I’ve been their for breakfast(with pie) and dinner(followed by pie) and have yet to be let down by anything I’ve tried. Super affordable, very standard but solid diner food with a friendly staff and lots of fun tchotchkes by the register on your way out!

Nothing fancy. All dishes remain simple. Fast service. Reasonably clean. Just be sure to order more side dishes to your main course. Pretty cheap too.

The Wayside is a classic greasy spoon and personal favorite since childhood. I have eaten most everything on the menu and all the kind of comfort food you would expect from a grandma. Tonight five of us celebrated a birthday here. The creole pork soup was amazing. All five of us basically licked our plates clean: chicken parmesan, scallop seafood pie, broiled haddock, pot roast, mashed potatoes, fried polenta, warm dinner rolls… it was all delicious! And, a super fun surprise: Sunday, Monday, and Tuesdays in January 2016 has $ 1.00 slices of pie! I would recommend the maple cream and the apple pie with a slice of cheddar. Also, they make a Moxie ice cream that I would die for, I wish it was on the menu all the time. And the prices are the most reasonable around with the best waitstaff. If I’m in the area, it’s my first pick. I always roll out stuffed: no regrets!

The Wayside is a solid choice — especially for breakfast and if you are accustomed to American diner food. Don’t go there and expect to find all natural local everything — go there looking for value in the traditional sense and a classic middle-class American experience. Breakfasts are reliably good and daily specials vary and often include soup — almost always for less than $ 10. This is a popular choice within the region. Certainly worth a visit. Thanks Wayside!

We used to live in Montpelier and eating at The Wayside was always a treat. My husband and I ate there this past August on our anniversary weekend, and it was just as delicious as ever. Crispy whites, runny yolks, crunchy fries and great steak. Yum! And excellent, fast, efficient service. :)

Excellent traditional American food. Nothing fancy, but as «family restaurant» as they come. Try the liver and onions.

We’re traveling through Vermont and wanted a simple meal. Tried Wayside based on Unilocal reviews. The menu is extensive, and there were a lot of daily specials. The food was ok… barely. My baked potato was cold when it arrived, and my meat was very overcooked. My husband said his meal was ok… mashed potatoes were real, gravy tasted canned. We tried a piece of the«famous» maple crème pie and we were very disappointed. It was overdone and the crust was soggy. We were seated at the very back next to the restrooms, which meant constant traffic and people waiting in line near our table. I’m sure other locations were more pleasant. The bright side? Prices were very, very reasonable.

A typical American diner with great food and excellent service. The portion of the chef’s salad is crazy large. Blue cheese dressing tastes like homemade, it was great. The rolls are really yummy!

Not many places are better than Wayside! It’s a must for breakfast. Great people, great food and great prices. Great options, but I get the same thing every time because it’s too good to change

Pretty good. Not much in the way of using local farm fresh. If you need something, this is something. It’s in the style of local diner, some local favorite dishes, nothing too outstanding.

Locals’ favorite. Unpretentious diner, without the diner architecture. Prices from the 1940s. Breakfast served all day. Good oatmeal, eggs, home fries, baked potatoes, steak, pork chops, Turkey dinner on Sundays. And for the less adventurous, you can order Goldfish crackers as an appetizer !

No frills diner. Lots of eating options, friendly staff, comfortable seating. They could ease up on the butter for items like grilled cheeses and other bread dishes(they were kind of soggy) but prices are right and service is quick. Great dessert options.

My husband and I decided to try this local favorite for dinner based on Unilocal reviews, and we knew as soon as we pulled up that we’d found a gem: OLDPEOPLE. Lots of them. Always a sure fire sign that the food is good. ;) The place has been family run for YEARSSSS, and it shows. The inside is older and could probably use some updating by most’s standards, but I thought it had a lot of charm. If it’s been there for years, I want it to *look* that way, you know? The hostess was pretty unfriendly, but meh. Only had to deal with her unsmiling self for about 30 seconds before she practically threw our menus on the table and walked off. Bad day? Fight with her boyfriend? Whatever. Our server immediately turned it around, and had us laughing and relaxed. I WISH I could remember her name, but she was teasing me about being from the south and expecting sweet tea in Vermont. Fat chance! Haha. Unsweet everywhere. Bummer. We went simple for dinner: club sandwich with extra tomatoes for me, and the prime rib for the hubby. My sandwich was huge and the mound of hand cut fries didn’t disappoint. Yum. I was a tad bit worried about the prime rib, being it was $ 9 and it appeared to be severely overcooked… Hubby loves medium rare. But he said that it was tender, juicy, and not overcooked at ALL. He said if the au jus hadn’t been so salty, it would have been perfect. They also serve house-made rolls while you wait, and they were delicious. Don’t miss out on this hometown café. We loved it.

Unlike other reviewers who complained about the service, it was actually fine during our visit. However food was mediocre at best. I ordered the onion rings, sausage gravy and biscuits, & a cup of coffee. Onion rings were the best out of the bunch. Crisp, not too oily, & fried just right so it’s not too burnt or oily. Sausage & Biscuits were terrible. Biscuits were doughy and dry. Gravy was bland, fatty tasting, and lots of rubber tasting bits… Yack. Coffee, taste like water. Needed 4 cups just to get some caffeine kick… Farewell…
