California Tortilla

This place is always an adventure. The food is decent, but the staff always seems totally confused (very nice, but confused). I came here tonight and saw they now have kale slaw. I asked if I could add it to my order and was told I had to order a specific burrito to get kale slaw on it. I didn’t like that burrito as much, but ordered it so I could try the kale. After a long time, my burrito was made and I was told «our kale slaw isn’t ready. Sorry.» Lol. I think I’ve experienced some issue like this every time I visit. Yet, I will probably come back to try the kale!

Checked in today for lunch after many months and still the experience is as it was before: The Best. Ordered quickly, the lady was very friendly. They have whole wheat tortilla. This time I ordered BBQ ranch crunchy chicken in whole wheat tortilla and it was the best. I also took some spicy cilantro sauce from their sauce collection which was great. The second sauce which I tried today was spicy pineapple and mango — which was spicy but had great flavors. I loved my lunch today. Will recommend this place to others!

My mom comes here every day for her lunch break and raves about the fresh food, the smiling faces behind the register and the clean, welcoming dining area. I now stop by all the time x

Every time I come to eat here, the staff is great and the food is always excellent, I love that everything is fresh and not frozen. I love the wall of hot sauces, enough for anyone’s taste. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good lunch or dinner.

Second time eating here and the people taking the orders are always so polite and patient. The only issue with tonight’s visit was when a police officer came out of the back and then helped himself to whatever is stored under the cash registers and then proceeded to sit on the counter where the food is served in a very nonchalant manner. Maybe he is part owner, but his behavior and the staff allowing it was disturbing. Even after he removed his butt from the counter, nobody cleaned it. He might only be dating the girl who was in the back of the restaurant because he then sat with a her… at a table, not on the counter. Decent food, great service, lousy housekeeping.

Managed by younger owners! Majority of the time on their food line in crew t-​shirts. 11 – 2:30 lunch rush since everyone is the area is cooperate and store gets flooded with customers at the same time, call ahead available. You will wait more than 10 minutes for food during this time period, food is well worth the wait. Healthy, fresh, chef inspired options are available here. Fish and quesadillas will take longer than other items ordered as they are cooked on a grill. Owners/​Managers make food during lunch rush!!!

I’ve been here several times for lunch. Beware theres a line out the door on Thursday/Friday’s around noon. They are that good! So get there a little earlier if you can, It will get you a little ahead of the game I’ve noticed. They have a large variety of options to choose from. Lots of hot sauces to choose from. I came once on national cupcake day and they handed out free cupcakes. I thought that was pretty cool. Definitely try them if you haven’t already. :)

I love this place. The food is tasty and fresh, good portion sizes, lots of customization options which are great. It gets pretty busy. I typically order then pick up, but have sat down too. This is one of my go to spots for lunch when I am working in the area.

It might be said, but Chipotle for fast food Mexican is my bar. And Chipotle is a 4 star to me. This was was ok. I had the sunrise bowl. Lots of veggies, but even more rice. The taste wasn’t awesome to me. The chips and fresh salsa were good. And they have the super cool digital coke machine, so that was fun. lol.

Great fresh food all the time. Nice variety of tasty dishes, from a friendly family-​owned business. I eat lunch at CT about twice a week and keep coming back for more. Great job by the entire CT staff!

Not the best food. Staff was talking about me while I was sitting there eating over why did I buy a bottle of water. What’s it to them? It also took them a long time to make my food when I was the only person in there.

Went in on Saturday 9÷18÷15 very pleasant atmosphere Tex-​Mex mixed with Asian influence and fresh ingredients. Had burrito bowl with a side of rice & beans (don’t order it!) burrito bowl was good and plenty of food as well. Rice & beans were flavorless and dry. They should offer fresh jalapeños but rely on their own sauce to give it a kick and doesn’t work as well.
Huge, and I mean huge, rack of special hot & spicy sauces to supplement at no additional charge.
Burrito Bowl + a side of rice & beans, no drink was about $ 9.00.
Definitely going back, interesting dishes yet to try and about 70 – 80 brands of hot sauce to experiment with.

I finally decided to venture out and try some lunch spot around my work area and this place was very intriguing so I decided to check it out.
I decided to make my own burrito bowl with no rice, no cheese, and no sour cream. I went with steak as my meat and added on corn and guacamole. First thing i notice was the portion which was alot when compare to other burrito place.
Second thing really come down to the food itself which was good, I really like their fresh ingredients and the way it was all pile up in the bowl, but my only complain is that I wish the steak was at least warm and not just plain cold. I will be back again and I will ask them if they can reheat the meat or steak that way it at least is warm and not cold steak which doesn’t taste right.

The food is amazing and the staff is always cheerful. Great place for lunch, can’t wait to come back for the burrito bowls with fresh fish for once.

I was anxious to try California tortilla since it’s literally in my backyard. I’m a big fan of chipotle as well as Moes, so CalTort is up against stiff competition…
I am not a fan of the ordering process at California tortilla. It is exactly like the ordering process at Panera, which sucks. Both chipotle and Moes have you walk through the food building line making your selections and pay at the end. California tortilla makes you painfully wait at the cashier for them to take your order, with all the options and then try to upsell you on options. Needless to say the ordering process is painfully slow. Perhaps this ordering system works in California, but here on the East Coast… We’re a lot less patient than they are. Hey now! What about a Bergen County Tortilla! Get your food in 3 minutes! ;)
The food is good, the portions are good, and I will return. The only reason I personally gave California tortilla three stars (instead of 4) is because of the terrible ordering system and that Moe’s gives you free chips and Salsa!

I usually stay away from Mexican food as a rule but I finally found a place that has just the right amount of heat for me. I never got why so many Southwest themed restaurants crank up the heat so much. Don’t they realize some of us with a sensitive palate don’t need 2 pounds of Tabasco sauce to taste the tingle on our tongues? Besides, if you want more heat you can always add it, you can not take it away!
The food was fresh and the tortilla was soft and flavorful. I can’t say I’m an expert on fish tacos as this was the first one I had. I can say I will be having more in the near future. The fish was fresh and grilled to perfection and I ordered a chicken taco just in case I didn’t like the one with fish which was also super tasty. I also tried the queso with chips which again had just the right amount of heat for me.
I can see myself frequenting this place more and even driving out of my way to get a another fix of my new favorite Mexican food.

A_​OK indeed. This is a brand new mexican style /​borrito place un town. Its a great idea bc everyone around here loves chipotle, and some times its a real B to drive to route 4; but doesnt make it very far past that point in my eyes. The food is sub par. Youll probably enjoy the good looks of your server over the food. Another time I was there the man taking my order rushed me as if the menu was commonly known.
«Fresh deal» 3.99 for a drink and chips. Not much of a deal. that will prob do well in this wealthy area
7.00+ for a 4 peice chicken casadilla that was STRAIGHT tortilla, cheese, and chicken. For the price your better off making youself a nice one w some greens in it at home. c’mon now
Burritos are OKAY. You’ll have to scavenge the menu for something to try. i found it funky. the decorations on the walls of the store are the different types of burritos they offer, i guess an attempt to try to familiarize the customers with this rather bizzaro arrangement and names of burritos. Odds are once you find one thing there that you like thatll be the only thing you go back for /​order.
Place is fully staffed by mostly high schoolers and kids around 20 yrs old. As well as partly owned and managed by kids around 20 years old. Which adds to an immature mood to the place; socializing staff, a little too much. Those who were off duty sitting at the middle table eating food and being loud. I understand promoting a comfortable work environment but how loose the management was was a turn off to me. they are very prideful though.
Very sub par but im sure this wealthy neighbor hood and hungry kids with their parents money will keep it going. Dont see it as an ideal place for adults.

Somewhere inbetween Moe’s and Chipotle lies California Tortilla. As a resident of Park Ridge, I’m not ashamed to admit that I was happy to see another fast casual option open up nearby (seriously, a BK, Taco Bell, and Boston Market isn’t getting things done…)
The menu is really robust and they have a combination of pre-​made dishes as well as made to order burritos, burrito bowls, salads, etc. I opted for a burrito bowl and added in the same fixins’ that I would have at a Chipotle… while it was good and the portion size was enormous, I will say that the ingredients didn’t feel as fresh or flavorful as Chipotle.
One bonus is that you can add on chips and guac (or queso) and a drink to make it a combo meal. It always bothers me that Chipotle doesn’t have this option.
I see this being a nice little addition to our «we’re too lazy to cook» rotation. Thanks for stopping by, California Tortilla.

Ordered online and picked up. They had just opened on Thursday and the technical site didn’t send them my order but the employees were very nice and got to work on the order as soon as I came in. Despite that, everybody was working hard and the place was pretty busy for a Saturday night in the burbs.
Burritos were very good… hubby had the carnitas verde burrito which was good and I had a honey lime burrito with chicken which was huge and very delicious as well. We also got a fish taco which was good but I’m not a big spicy person so the sauce was a little too much for me. Chips, salsa and guacamole were all good as well. I’m sure this place will be very crowded with the busy lunch hour corporate crowd during the week. Will be back in the future!
