Sometimes I dismiss Lord & Taylor as sort of a mom store but I have to say that they really came through for me before my recent trip to Mexico. I went to Nordstrom to check out the swimsuits and was wildly disappointed in the selection. I called my mom in despair and she told me she had seen a pretty big variety at Lord & Taylor and she offered to meet me there(Moms. They are the best!). Before long, I had an armful of swimwear and was headed to the dressing rooms. There were also loads of cute cover-ups as well. I left the store a little poorer but a whole lot happier. Definitely going to give Lord & Taylor another look next time the occasion arises!

Lord & Taylor is one of my go to department stores. They carry all types of clothing and brands. This particular store is clean, well kept, and up to date(unlike some of the other Moorestown Mall stores * cough cough* Boscovs). They have plenty of clearance racks– and this is where I prefer to stay, otherwise items are a little pricey. One of my favorite sections in the Lord and Taylor is their shoes– this can be easily located from the mall entrance. They normally have an abundance of clearance and a decent amount of workers willing to help. Parking at this mall is much easier than the Cherry Hill mall– so although there are not as many stores it is much easier to access.

This smaller department store over the years has taken the backseat to front runners like Macy’s and Nordstrom who are constantly reinventing themselves and running promotion after promotion. I have always enjoyed the old-fashioned feel of the Lord & Tayor department store, but not it is starting to feel a little dated. I don’t feel overwhelmed when I walk into the store because it is organized, however there isn’t as much stock as other department stores. I enjoy the brands they carry– even if stock has been dwindling over the years. Particularly in the shoe section it looks almost empty. A few name brand shoes they carry are Michael Kors, Sam Edelman, Steve Madden, Jessica Simpson, and Jack Rogers. For trendy clothing brands they offer BCBG, BCBGeneration, Free People, Vintage Havana, Soprano, Guess, Jessica Simpson, and Chaser. Overall I think Lord & Taylor is a nice department store, but they have fallen behind on the times and could definitely use some sprucing up when it comes to marketing and advertising. Even their promotions like Friends & Family seem to not be promoted well… As a main placeholder store in the Moorestown Mall I hope they can pull it together and stay around. Especially since Osteria has opened nearby– maybe now there will be an influx of newer, wealthier clientele.

Even though the Moorestown Mall itself has seen better days and is in the midst of a renovation, Lord & Taylor has always been a clean, reliable department store in the complex. A little more high-end than Macy’s, but waaaaaaaaay more affordable than Nordstrom’s. The makeup ladies are great, in my opinion– not too pushy, but they sure know their stuff. A friend whose mother and sister also visit regularly is on a first-name basis with her makeup counter rep. The service in general at this L&T is good– everyone’s friendly and helpful(I’m sure because of commission, but it seems genuine). The best thing about it are the sales! So many good deals on high-end stuff(how about Coach heels for under $ 50?). If you ever plan on opening one of the credit cards, make sure you go during one of the big sales, because you’ll get an extra 15% the entire day you open the card.

New Jersey New Jersey, I’m just going to keep writing about irrelevant places in woeful New Jersey. Lord & Taylor, department store for the upper middle class. w00t. Really, now, department stores? Who cares. I agree. I concur. Yet, useless reviews are fun media for rambling. The girls working at the Clinique counter here are darlings. Always. And the hats! Big fun floppy hats normal people don’t want to pay for, because they’re reasonable. Sometimes there are clearances, and at these miraculous moments in time nice tops and/or blouses etc. can be found for a grand total of $ 9.99 each and yay! no sales tax on clothes in New Jersey. Then, there are the dresses. Le sigh. It brings out the little girl in. me, if no one else. Now if only I could afford one…
