The décor is sort of a 50s version of Cracker Barrel. They have a fairly generous breakfast bar. I came on a Sunday. I chose to get the NC ham and eggs #7 instead. Got my eggs scrambled with cheese. I was curious about their liver mush, so I ordered a side of that too. It’s evidently a regional favorite but I’d order it again. The white toast I chose was dense and fully buttered and the grits were creamy. I thought that the #7 was a bit under 7, but I got my check and it was actually a bit under 9. Must have been an extra charge for the cheese. All and all, for about a Hamilton plus a Lincoln, it turned out to be a very satisfying breakfast.

This is the first time visiting Abele’s and the breakfast was wonderful and the coffee was hot! We enjoyed ourselves.

Pretty decent buffet. I came here on a Wednesday morning with an empty stomach and a $ 10 bill in my pocket, and came away very full of some pretty good food. Most of the items on the steam table were fresh and well stocked, the fruit bar was another story. Fruit was bad, but not terrible. Coffee was hot, fresh enough, and a little weak. Service was great, friendly, and quick.

Best value you will find. My country fried steak and mashed potatoes would have fed my family of four. I ate and ate and ate and just couldn’t get through it all. The taste was wonderful. I also had the side-salad so I did get to see the salad bar and it was very complete with a lot of vegetables, meats, toppings, dressings, etc. I travel a lot so when I find a good spot like Abele’s I’ll get about as excited to visit the restaurate and I do my final destination. In other words, I’ll be stopping by here any time I’m heading west on I-40. It’s a skip and a hop off the highway. I recommend it to anyone who can eat.

Home cooking. Pleasant atmosphere. Breakfast buffet or menu. Mmmmm like mamas kitchen. Real home fries, NC ham, fresh biscuits. They were busy and yet we had a minimal wait and were not rushed. They syrup for the pancakes was a little Thin, but had good flavor. Coffee came in a carafate so you did not have to ask for refills. So very glad we found this place while traveling. When exiting the interstate be careful they just moved and the old building still has the sign up. The restaurant is now on the right not the left

Very good family restaurant, pleasant atmosphere and service. Wide variety of choices on the hot and salad bars, all fresh and well prepared. Excellent green beans and mashed potatoes. Great value for the money and far superior to the chains.

Yet another example of the Smörgåsbord/All You Can Eat genre! Solid breakfast break from the usual biscuit/sausage travel stops. Decent breakfast bar with a couple of exceptions: The toast strips were simply over-toasted to the point of being uneatable. No amount of syrup or butter affected their toasted-in, brick-like hardness. Grab a couple to use as emergency tent stakes! The mini-ham(?) squares looked like ham, smelled like ham and had a ham-like consistency, but were strangely devoid of taste. Scrambled hen-eggs were very good, as were the biscuits and bacon. TWO gravy options were offered, and both were a tasty addition to the biscuits and diced potatoes. Most outstanding was an incredible breakfast/FRUIT bar! Okay, THIS bar was worth the visit! It was a welcome alternative to my usual, grease-laden meal. It actually made the morning brighter! Good ADA compliance. Extra points for the pithy ‘country-styled’ bits of ‘wisdom’ adorning every wall. There’s a Malt Shop/Diner addition ’round back, but I’ve not had an opp to try it out. Parents traveling with children be warned: There’s a gauntlet of candy and snackage lining the exit route!

One of the most overrated places in Burke. Some of the food is tasty, but most tastes like a frozen microwave meal. I’ll pass on going back.

In town for work so decided to try Abele’s since I enjoy trying new restaurants. First off, the place gets kudos for the friendly and accommadating service. However, the food was just lacking in taste. I know collard greens, and the greens on their veggie bar had no seasoning. They throw bacon strips in to hopefully get any flavor in their greens. The beef tips I ordered had no taste and were tough. My co worker ordered ribs, and the whole center of it was cold. Only the ends were warm. Ordered their homemade version of cheesecake, and it is more like flavored whipped cream on a pie crust. Definitely nothing like the cheesecake I was hoping to get. Sara Lee’s would have been better. I gave them 2 stars for the hostesses and waitresses who helped us, but the cooks get zero stars… sorry.

Great southern fare. Healthy options which I love, as well as some naughty treats(which I also love!). Super accommodating and friendly staff, and very reasonable prices. Want to go back for their apparently incredible breakfast buffet tomorrow!

Stopped back by this place on the way to Maggie, for breakfast. It was not as spectacular as it was the last time, but it was still solid. Biscuits were good, gravy was good, bacon was good, fried liver pudding was good. Nothing was great, but it was all good, still a great place to eat breakfast. Service is still fantastic, food could be a little hotter, but that’s my only complaint.

About average for a family restaurant. The buffet wasn’t the best selection and all the meats were dried out. As were the biscuits. It taste relatively good, but I won’t return during my stay.

Good southern cooking and a super friendly staff make this place great. Nothing pretentious here, just good country cooking. The staff enjoyed hearing a customer speaking Yankee, y’all.

This place was a little … scary isn’t quite the word, but walking into the place my husband and I got some odd looks, and I wasn’t dressed crazy at the time. Not a popular place with the family, I’m guessing. We were on our way to Asheville and stopped for lunch as we were still a few hours off. It’s straightforward American diner food, with a sweet waitstaff and a kinda sketchy looking buffet. The saving grace is the little store up front where they sell all manner of goodies, from old fashioned candy to pickled okra and local(I think) uniquely flavored syrups. Cute, but not a must–(or even repeat) stop.

This was exactly what I expected & more. Very good country cooking, with attentive service and interesting décor with lots of knick-knacks. Had the meat w buffet as did my husband. Staff kept the hot buffet food fresh, fruit & salad bar items were fresh too. Good prices means this place is a good value. I had the country fried steak which had a tasty cream gravy, the steak was still crispy and the whole dish was delivered hot. My husband had the liver and onions, which he said was very good.

I stopped by on a weekday night. The restaurant was busy. It is cutely decorated with all sorts of signs, toy cars, photos, funny phrases. The food items were cheap and the booth seats were comfortable. I started off with a great milkshake. I am sold so far. But aside from all of that, I wasn’t too jazzed about the long wait for my food once I put my oder in. I had a very simple order, a buffalo chicken sandwich without any sides. It took almost half an hour. The sandwich was very lackluster, the buns were awfully toasted to the point that they were scratchy inside my mouth. The chicken didn’t have enough buffalo kick. I ended up just eating the chicken piece and ditched the crusty buns.
