There is only one place in Morro Bay for consistently good seafood and it is Dutchman’s Seafood House. Add in their reasonable prices and why would you go anywhere else plus a great water view

Service could use improvement. Food was fine. The clam chowder tasted like the can… or maybe i just got spoiled by the clam chowder at the old fisherman’s grotto at Monterey. Expected more from the food to the service.

The service was excellent, the employees are very kind. The food was what surprised me. Being a restaurant on the Bay notated for its view, I expected the food to be pretty standard, but it was delicious and also well priced. The fish and chips, the oysters and fried calamari were all very good. My gf and I enjoyed ourselves here and we’re very happy with everything about this place. If you’re looking for a great restaurant to visit that’s not a tourist trap, this one will most undoubtedly suit your needs. It’s also a family owned business and I definitely will be giving them my business again

A girlfriend and I stopped in for a light lunch and I must say, I wasn’t expecting much. Thinking that this was probably a tourist type spot and most likely just an average level of quality and ambiance. Well I was presently surprised at the quality of the food and the generous portion. I ordered a Harvest Salad. The combination was a bit odd to me as it was made with greens, monterey jack cheese and spiced walnuts. The odd part was that it also contained several types of fresh fruit which were great in it, but not what I would have thought paired well together. I ordered it topped with salmon which was cooked perfectly and was a nice sized portion. I ate every morsel of the salad and loved it!

We come here every so often its one of our four main dining spots in morro bay. We came here to escape the heat of the north county and eat til our hearts content. Today was busy I think the valley exploded over here. Anyways we started with the clam chowder we weren’t impressed, it could’ve used a little more flavor it was a bit bland for my liking. Then my hubby ordered the calamari and chips substituted with garlic fries and there was this Thai chili sauce served with it that was amazing. We asked for extra to take home with the leftovers. I ordered the fish and shrimp combo with garlic fries… OMG those garlic fries are AMAZING!!! The fish and shrimp were very good and the batter was on point not to much to where you can’t taste the fish, it was perfect. The tarter sauce was very good. Not sure if they make it from scratch but it sure did taste like it. The service was amazing we were seated right away, and from our waitress to the bus boys they were all very attentive even with how busy it was! Thumbs up Dutchman!

Just a random spot for lunch turned out to be the best experience! We were just in Morro Bay for a few hours while out of town for the weekend and honestly just walked around until we www hungry and this was the door we were closest too, lol. It was my MIL, myself and my 2 girls.(Ages 2 ½ and 3 mon) I loved that we were seated right by a window with an amazing view(happy happy moment for the toddler) and weren’t shoved into a corner for having small children with us and the restaurant hoping we wouldn’t be too loud or distracting, this happens quit a lot and really ticks me off so high five to the host right off of the bat! LoL –We were served promptly and all small request were immediately meet and honestly the service was just outstanding and made you feel very welcome. –our appetizer of fried calamari was on point! Yum! And both meals amazing! We had grilled mahi mahi tacos and a chowder salad combo. The portions were more then enough to to share and we even had some soup left to take home! Seriously go here! We will be back for sure!

First time here, visting for Memorial weekend! –1 we ordered the Ahi tuna… way too much pepper, and the sauce was so plain with no Flavor!!! Really? What a dissapointment –1 we wanted Oysters and they were out… I mean we are in the Bay, I am sure many come to an area like this for seafood and oysters is a must so that was a bummer — 1 the chowder was so plain, no flavor … We will. not come back!!! Go elsewhere! The view is nice, the food was not good! Service waa okay…

We ran into this place and decided to give it a try and I was very impressed. Service and food were both great! I mentioned Unilocal and got a discount! I loved the view from our table very much too. My husband ventured out a bit and I was honestly jealous of his food.

It’s become something of a Mother’s Day tradition that we find ourselves at the Dutchman in Morro Bay. Most experiences are pretty good, the food is tasty, the wait staff is friendly. My mom loves the Caesar salad, I tend to explore the fish options. We tried a Bloody Mary this time and couldn’t detect a drop of vodka in it. Service was slow and we waited over ten minutes for someone to take our order, a difficult situation when you’re very hungry. Food came pretty quickly after the order though.

We took a party of 6 here, based on Unilocal reviews. The setting is spectacular, big picture windows looking over the harbor to Morro Rock. Service was great, as was the bar. The food was very traditional beach front tourist food. Stick to the fresh fish! The calamari was actually greasy and my wife picked all the flour off to make it less greasy. The sand dabs were very good. The breaded fried shrimp was just that. These folks could offer a few more ‘contemporary’ dishes that are not so mid western tourist oriented. i.e., fattening. The cooks there are not professionally trained. Too bad, because they have everything to make this a hot spot.(Because of the view, they probably are jammed at high season.)

Dined here this evening and it was a wonderful experience! We arrived and were seated outside right away. The view was incredible, we could see otters from our table. We ordered fish tacos, clam chowder, and calamari. The prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. We will definitely be returning here next time we come to Morro Bay!

All around it was just okay. The food was okay. We had the seared ahi tuna as an appetizer– too much pepper and the dipping sauce left something to be desired. I had the turkey club and a cup of clam chowder, none of it was amazing but it also wasn’t bad. I’ve had better clam chowder in Sacramento. My brother had the chicken club and seemed to enjoy it, but didn’t say it was fantastic. My sister had the ahi tuna salad and it is what you would expect out of a salad. And my mom had clam chowder and get the same way I did, it was okay. Our server was very bah humbug, but she was attentive. I won’t make it a point to come here again if I’m in Morro bay.

Service was prompt the view is exceptional we were able to sit right at the windows and watch everything going on in the bay. We had fish chips and shrimp and tried the chowder. Chowder was really good and coming from Oregon that’s saying something the fish was very good the beer batter was really really good fries were okay tartar sauce with you mean but I have to say the clam chowder was The Shining Star for me the shrimp was was perfectly good all in all out and we also had one plate of the garlic fries if you do that be prepared for garlic I’m not sure anybody is going to live with the other half tomorrow including me but anyway great place to stop reasonably priced plenty of food I would come back if I was in this area

Every time I’m in Morro Bay I insist on eating at The Galley but my wife really wanted to try a different place for a change. Dutchman’s was near where I parked so we figured it was a sign. Service was excellent, prices very reasonable, and the food was great. I went with their $ 15.95 fresh fish of the day which was Rockfish. Never heard of this fish or tried it before but with a quick google search it looks like something you’d find in an aquarium. Had a texture similar to sole and had a unique taste. I really enjoyed it and it was a huge portion, I think I got the whole fish. Rice pilaf seemed to be what 80% of the restaurants I ate at served as a side dish and Dutchman’s had the best. It was very herbal, I even found a whole bayleaf in the middle of it. It also came with coleslaw which was your standard variety. My wife got their soup & salad combo. Instead of a tiny cup of clam chowder what arrived to our table was a HUGEGIANT bowl of it. HUGE. I took a few bites of it and really enjoyed it. Zero grit too. We had chowder at a very expensive seafood restaurant in Cambria(The Sea Chest) and it was full of sandy grit. She got the Caesar salad for the salad. Not sure how she liked it but she ate it all so I guess she did. $ 13.50 was a bargain for the duo. Make sure to get their garlic bread! Best $ 3 you’ll spend We both really enjoyed our lunches and will definitely be back. Now we’ll probably have to flip a coin between here and The Galley next time we visit.

We enjoyed the shrimp cocktail and clam chowder very much. I like how the shrimp cocktail was actually filled with shrimp and not just ice or lettuce like some places. It’s actually a good amount for an appetizer. The service was good. The only thing we didn’t like we’re the oysters. They were a little more«fishy» tasting than we prefer. They were happy to take them back when we told them though, without making us feel bad so we appreciated that. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and we’ll definitely come back on our next trip.

Great dining views here. We sat out on the covered patio for lunch and watched sea otters, seagulls and various boats and kayaks float by. Our server was friendly and efficient and kept our drinks refilled. The clam chowder was delicious. We both had the shrimp and fish and chips. A large portion of two big pieces of cod and four large shrimp, with fries and coleslaw. Yum! The view and the food made for a very nice lunch in Morro Bay.

I’ve got to say, this is becoming my very favorite place in Morro Bay to grab a bite to eat! I’ve personally voted it the best crab cakes around, one of the best places to enjoy fish and chips and also they serve a mean popcorn shrimp and calamari! I love, love, love it here! My favorite place to sit is on the enclosed patio across the way. It sits over the water and you have a perfect view of our majestic Rock and all the bay activity and wildlife. More times than not, there is a resident seagull outside on the edge of the patio. He will lovingly stare at you and squawk for a bite. It’s not good to feed them but if by chance he gets a crumb, you can be sure he will take off in a euphoric flight and land promptly right back in front of you pecking the glass for more. Hard not to cave in and feed him, but please don’t. It’s not good for wildlife to eat our food. He is adorable though. Food at the Dutchman is pretty much perfection, I love the new look and new menu(it used to be the Flying Dutchman and I wasn’t as much of a fan back then). Nice large portions and they must use their own special recipes for their dishes, giving it a better flavor and texture than the norm. Drinks from the bar are made strong and delicious! And the wait staff is fun and friendly, all seem to smile and enjoy their job. Can’t wait to be back to dig in for some more! I think this place is one of those where you either really really like it… or you don’t. I am one who doe not like it, and I will not be returning… I will just get that part out of the way in the beginning of my review. The restaurant itself if located right in the heart of Morro Bay and has a great view of Morro Rock from inside of their dining room. The only place I could see the view being an issue is if you were seated at the by right by the front entrance, but otherwise you have pretty unobstructed views of the rock and the water. The views/location don’t come without a premium though, you see it in the food. I wasn’t sure on what I was going to order, at first I thought Shrimp & Chips might be a solid option… but I could not swallow the $ 17.99 price tag, for LUNCH!!! They also had a Salmon lunch that was priced at $ 21.95. I ultimately decided to go with the Tuna Melt that was reasonably priced and seemed appetizing at the same time, as well as the Clam Chowder. I upgraded my Tuna Melt fries and got their Bistro Garlic Fries, and I am so glad that I did… the fries were the highlight of my meal. The fries were crisp and fried to a perfect golden brown and tossed with the right amount of oil and fresh garlic, the best I have had in a long time. The Tuna Melt was kind of meh. I appreciate the fact that the bread was grilled to perfection and the cheese was melted perfectly, but the tuna itself was kind of bland. There was no ‘binder’ to the tuna meat, if not for the cheese. I expected there to be some flavor… some moistness, some sauce or something. I just did not enjoy this. The clam chowder is where I was really disappointed. I know I shouldn’t do it, but I compared it to Splash. In all fairness I went in with realistic expectations that it probably wasn’t going to taste like it, and to be honest I didn’t even care if it did… I like change. If I had wanted Splash, I could have drove down the road… however, I did expect this to have flavor. This chowder had ZERO flavor!!! It was almost like eating a watered down potato soup, you could not even tell it was seafood related. Soup out of a can has more flavor. Also, the bread bowl this was served in was not good at all. They did not toast or grill it in any way, they just carved out the middle and poured the soup in, the bread had been cold previously and was crumbling on my plate and couldn’t even be dipped in the soup properly. I am giving this place 3 stars overall because of the location, cleanliness, fries… and the service. Despite the bland and utterly tasteless food, I received wonderful service. The main waitress checked on us here and there as a waitress should, and in between there were young busboys/hosts that came around to refill drinks and to check on customers. All staff that I encountered were really friendly and seemed to enjoy their jobs. Not sure that I could recommend this place for food, but perhaps if you are looking to have a couple of drinks maybe you can stop here and have some with a killer view and great service. P. S. they offer 15% OFF for Unilocaler’s(excludes alcohol)
