Mary rocks! When it came time to upgrade our boards Mary was the only one we found that would let us demo boards. Extremely grateful for her knowledge and getting us out on the water to make the decision process easier. Excited to get our new boards out on the water. She has an awesome shop with all the supplies you’ll need. If you’re not ready to purchase a board, she has a great rental fleet available right on the waters edge. Highly recommend.

They are really nice here! I went in and spoke to the nicest gentlemen behind the counter. He helped me pick out a life vest for my dog based on photos I was showing him. I ended up getting the perfect size and a really quality vest with a handle on back for when we take our dog boating/kayaking/paddleboarding(he likes to jump in the water and than he panics). Now my dog will be safe. He prices everything taking into account what you are paying online so you get the best deal. I’d rather shop local whenever I can. Next time I’m in Morro Bay I will use them to rent my paddleboards with my family.

Recently during our trek up the Calif Coast, our 14 yo son was on a mission to find a place that would rent us SUP’s. Thankfully, we found Mary at Morro Bay SUP, who graciously talked us OUT of going out that day due to the windy conditions. safety first! Instead, we scheduled with her for early the next morning and had a truly memorable experience. She was very patient with all of us(two 50+ yo adults, with our 12 and 14 year old kiddos). Her knowledge and experience of SUP’ing was no surprise. Her extended knowledge of the marine life in the estuary/bay was worth the experience alone. We saw«Leopard Sharks» that literally swam around us and under our boards; held a Sea Slug; witnessed Otters with their newly born babies floating around on their momma’s tummies, and one cracking open mussels on it’s belly; and TONS of living Sand Dollars! Our 12 yo daughter was absolutely mesmerized. she loves Life Science, and it was all coming to life in front of her. The time passed too quickly, and we needed to end our little tour. We rode the current back to the beach where we launched with big smiles. Mary gave us the SUP’ing bug and four people with huge smiles on their faces! We live in the Seattle area and already want to return to this wonderful part of California and have another experience with this fun lady. Before leaving Morro Bay, we drove out to the rock to watch the incoming swell and a large group of surfers. To our delight, we found Mary paddling out amongst them, catching a few sweet waves of her own. Cheers to this wonderful family owned business! Mary, you embody the spirit of the ocean and are truly a waterwoman!

This review is delayed but well deserved. We purchased a lesson from Mary and SUP Morro Bay and have rented from them as well. Both of us had previously had a lesson elsewhere and felt that Mary’s instruction was really at a level above the competition. She is great at reading your comfort level and explaining things in a few different ways. She has a progression in which everything you learn build on something you previously learned and somehow she helps you bring it all together. At the end of our time we both felt that we had a level of cautious confidence in the bay. On both occasions we worked with Mary she provided excellent tips on the current conditions and where in the bay we would have the best time. She was always patient and helped us find our love for a new water sport!

After getting a taste of stand up paddleboarding(SUP) in the warm tropical waters of Big Island, I felt it was important that my partner and I learn how to SUP in frigid California waters. We needed more finite pointers from another expert so we could better acclimate ourselves to our side of the Pacific Ocean. SUP Morro Bay was the perfect place to get that type of instruction while having fun and experiencing Morro Bay in a unique way. Mary is a great instructor! Even before we got into the water, Mary discussed water safety and the type of PFD’s(personal flotation devices) that she recommended, and our water and wind conditions. She gave clear instructions about using our equipment, how to maneuver in the water, and took the time to observe my partner and I in order to give us concise feedback on what we could do to improve our paddling. We appreciated all of her suggestions and had a wonderful time learning how to deal with ships passing by and feeling the differences between the calmer waves near shore and further away from the harbor. After our lesson ended, she also gave us some time to paddle around on own our. Thanks to this SUP lesson, we are looking forward to going into Morro Bay again to stand up paddleboard in the near future — they give 20% discounts on rentals after your purchase a lesson.

We wanted to SUP for our 10-year anniversary. My wife was a pro, and I was a beginner. Mary was great to work with and had the best equipment we saw on Morro Bay by far. This is one of the best places to SUP I could imagine. The water was pretty calm, except a little current from the tide. There were harbor seals and their babies swimming near us, as well as sea lions. It was unbelievable; I smiled for two hours straight. Definitely do this, and definitely go through Mary.

Thank you, MBSUP, for an amazing experience! Mary is very thorough in her instruction and I felt very confident getting on for the first time. So much fun! We will be back for more action very soon!

Morro Bay Stand Up Paddleboarding gets my vote for fun and excellence while in the Morro Bay area. Yesterday, July 10, 2015, my 14 year-old daughter and her friend took a 1 ½ hour lesson from Mary, founder and certified SUP instructor. The teens originally did not want a lesson(my daughter had a paddleboard experience last summer in northern California) But the more I thought about it, the more I was concerned about them being out on the bay, very different from a lake. They were very glad that they had the lesson and said they learned so much. Both girls had a blast, they loved it and in fact, asked to go back out after the lesson so I sent them back out for another hour. Tip: if you are bringing someone else’s kid/teen, download(or pick up at their store) a waiver for the parent to sign. One of the cool things about using MBSUP is that they will bring the paddleboard to the area you want to launch from. The owners/staff at their new retail store on the Embarcadero were great! They gave us lots of info and attention. They even had loaner wetsuits that we used! SUP is a wonderful way to enjoy the water. Both girls want to go again soon and are talking about wanting to buy boards.
