It was just A-OK. The old decour was very intresting but the meal lacked something. Our friends recommended it to us, but it lacks something.

I know when you go to a steak place you are supposed to order steak and I have here before and it is great however I have never found a place with chicken strips as good as here. Also their sweet potato fries are great but what makes them over the top good are the strawberry jalapeño jelly they come with as a dipping sauce. Fantastic! Only reason I give them a 4 star rather than 5 star is the cigarette smoke on a busy night.

This place used to be amazing, but the steaks are awful now. The appetizers we ordered were great but our steaks were so bad I literally almost threw up on my plate. My husband can damn near eat anything and he was so disgusted he couldn’t eat his either. We never complain to servers about our food but we had to with this. Pretty sure the meat was rotten. We will never go back. It’s a total shame how much it’s changed.

I’m not sure what all of the reviews below are about, but the owners now have owned this place for the last 13 years and have had most of the same cooks they’ve always had. The food is spectacular and so are the employees.

Harry J’s looks like one of those cool hole in the wall dive joints that has awesome food for super cheap… only one of those is correct. I ordered a sirloin steak, loaded baked potato, and dinner salad. The salad was pretty much like any other steak house salad and came with a tiny cup of dressing so I ordered extra. No big deal until we got the bill. We couldn’t figure out why we were paying almost 100 bucks until we found out, they charge extra(a lot extra) for any«extras» you order, you know, extras like«can I get extra ranch?» «Can I get anything more than butter(cheese, sour cream, bacon) on my potato»($ 2.00 per topping!!!). «Can I get a refill on my soda». It was pretty ridiculous! None of that was listed on the menu nor did our waitress warn us. The steak was well cooked and tasted great; however, I’m still looking for the rest of it. The other thing to be cautious of is the cigarette smoke. It was awful! Enjoy your steak in an old bowling alley bar and it’s about the same!!! Moral of the story: good food, sky high prices, and a mediocre atmosphere.

When the cook has to cut into your steak to see if it’s done, that should tell you what you need to know.

Food and service are easily a 4. The amount of cigarette smoke inside flipped my stomach and prevented me from eating. If you know that going in, I’d recommend it.

Years ago this place had different owners and it was 5 stars. The place went severely downhill since then. The owners are CHEAP and skimp on everything. The«quality» of their food is equivalent to the Golden Corral or Ponderosa, including the steaks. Their soup is generic can soup, vegetables are canned and their potatoes tasted like they were left over from yesterday. Everything they serve is cheap and generic– down to the margarine and imitation bacon bits for their potatoes. I know who the owner is and everytime I’ve been here to eat she just sits at a table close to the kitchen, smoking, doing paperwork and ignoring her customers. She rarely gets up and actually does anything– she is so lazy and unattentive to her paying guest. How about getting up, going to tables and asking how their experience is, thanking them for coming, etc. Last night at 7:30 on a busy Friday night she sat at her table the entire time smoking, doing paperwork and ignored every guest! Save the paperwork and smoke breaks for behind the scenes and off-peak times! The owners are so cheap that if you leave a tip on a credit card, they keep 3% of the tip from the server to pay for credit card fees. We went back last night after swearing 2 years ago not to waste our money there anymore. We gave it one more chance and $ 75 later(for 2 adults 2 kids) we found that nothing has improved. Do not expect much from this place.

Amazing service and superb steak! Went for a Valentine’s day dinner and was very impressed with the limited wait time and the efficiency of the kitchen staff and wait staff.

This place is terrible. They made me a buffalo chicken sandwich and it was hard and I couldn’t even cut it with a knife because it was so tuff. I complained to the server, she rolled her eyes. Then the manager never came out I heard her talking about«stupid customers» while she sat in the kitchen. I also her her say they will spit in new food, the server came out and said they were making a new one. I to them I did not want any food from that place because I heard what she said and I repeated what I heard the manager say. The server looked surprised but walked away then came back a few minutes later and said they took buffalo chicken sandwich off bill and then gave me the bill for the other food my husband and daughter ate. And still manager never came out. This place is ran grossly and unprofessionally and I would not recommend this place to my worse enemy, not only is their food inedible but their staff and manger are terrible and unprofessional if you go make sure you have shots.

The ambiance is very relaxed. It doesn’t typically get too loud considering the floor plan. The servers are all friendly and are attentive. Parking can be a… well hectic at times. The food is always good. The ribeye is always cooked to color and is not messed with much. Good steak doesn’t need extras. The sweet potato is served with the brown sugar on the side so you can sweeten it to your taste. The Saturday special Prim Rib is also a must. A good vet could have made it moo once more. There was still enough to take home to the dogs. Great steak joint for the little town of Moscow Mills.

I’ve been here a few times so far. I’ve had very good food! The fish, steak and baked sweet potatoes is where it’s at! Order a side salad and you won’t be disappointed. The place seems clean and organized. The staff are friendly enough. I have had a huge problem with the smoke(maybe come before or after dinner rush?). Menu is kid friendly, the smokers are not! We will be back many times!

Do not waste good money. The restaurant was sold to a new owner a couple of years ago and this began the decline in quality and service. The owner must not pay or treat the staff very well since there is a very high turn over which leads to error in your order. Just do not waste you time.

Had a gigantic mouth watering prime rib for dinner tonight that was cooked perfectly as I ordered. Clean, good service, and reasonable prices. Small town ambience and nicely decorated with antiques and gadgets. No chain restaurant here. Will eat at again if I’m in the area.

Unfortunately it’s one of the few places in town to get steak. The ambiance is set in a small, slightly grubbish style setting, with the smoking section divided by an invisible wall, with a dirty partial glass skylight on the verge of falling on top of you.(I would not recommend sitting underneath that during a storm) On a positive, the very few places that serves Michelob Golden Light, on tap, which is a rare find in the bud light capital. The staff are all very friendly and attentive. Now to the food; being a steak restaurant you would assume to order steak and would be satisfied. Not here, the quality and cut of meat is perhaps USDA Choice at best, a little pricey at $ 23.95. What’s most irritating is the way the steaks are cooked. For example, a rare to medium rare filet will come out charred on the outside, medium rare on the inside and well towards the edge, very very dry, no juices whatsoever. The inconsistency is inexcusable, considering its a steakhouse. Other foods have their issues as well, but let’s just talk steak for today.

Worst $ 80.00 meal I’ve had in quite a while. Steaks were improperly cooked and thin. Grilled shrimp was stone cold(we sent it back hoping we would get fresh but received the same back, hot but totally dried out.) Seet potatoes were burnt black on the outside and cold on the inside. Salad was dull and lifeless. I’ve been eating at Harry j“s since it was in Winfield but the quality continues to go down and the prices up. Oh well, not worried about a decent meal there any longer, we’re never going back. One bright spot was the service, friendly and attentive!

If you find yourself in Troy or Moscow Mills, and Big Stickey’s BBQ is closed, this is probably the best meal you’ll find in the area. I don’t mean to damn with faint praise, but I also don’t want to get any hopes up. You’ll pay a little too much for a decent, but not great, meal in a charming but slightly grubby setting. Service is always pleasant and attentive. There is a smoking section, but its perimeter is nebulous. Harry J’s is a steakhouse, so let’s talk steaks. The menu states«We would rather explain the price than apologize for the quality.» Well, they’ve got some explaining to do. The quality of the meat seems a few notches above Ponderosa but below Outback. The steaks are cut thinner than I prefer, and doneness is inconsistent, though they usually tend to err on the rare side. I’ve found that the Kansas City Cut strip steak is the thickest. I ask them to give it an extra dark sear on the outside and to keep the interior medium rare(i. e. Pittsburgh Medium Rare). I’ve usually been pleased with this. Beyond the steaks, the burgers are fine but nothing special. We’ve ordered the mahi mahi and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the fish, though the sauce is unpleasant; I recommend asking for it on the side. The fried pickles are spears, not chips(I prefer chips). I must confess a weakness for their Paris dressing. I can’t figure out what it is. It seems like an emulsified Italian, not quite a creamy Italian, not quite a vinaigrette. Whatever it is, it’s tasty. Probably the best item on the entire menu is the chicken strip dinner. These are clearly made in house; hand cut and hand breaded. They are not the typical, frozen, food service quality chicken strips. These almost seem like they come from a different restaurant. Harry J’s is a big fish in the tiny Lincoln County restaurant pond. I wouldn’t make a special trip to try it, but if you’re in the area, you’ll have a fine meal with good service.
