Talk about a view! You can see the entire Silicon Valley from the restaurant. Excellent food and service.

Went here for Anniversary for the first time. It was very scary going up and up this steep mountainside for about 25 minutes before we reached the top .Our Über driver was spooked just as we were. Its a dark and very twisted pathway to get to this wonderful restaurant. Was very hard to get a Über driver to bring us back down the hill.btw. Any way, there was a live band playing jazz music, it sounded great and you can hear it throughout the place. You step into the bar area which is dark but decorated nicely .It was clean and everyone was very welcoming. We were seated on time for our reservation. Food was great, pasta was fresh made, husbands steak had to be cooked some more but wasn’t a big deal. Dessert was cheesecake which was great as well. Views are amazing!!! The manager Ilya was so nice, he signed me into the wi fi since I couldn’t get a good signal on my(stupid sprint phone) so we could request our Über car and also asked how our meal was. Offered us a splash of wine while we waited for our car and told us to take our time although they were closing. We loved it, will be back in the daytime !!

I came here for my boyfriend’s birthday on 2÷17÷16. It was our first time trying this restuarant. It was a Wednesday so it was pretty easy to get reservations. We arrived a little early for our reservation so the hostess asked if we would like to be seated or to have a drink at the bar and we decided to be seated. She wished my boyfriend a Happy Birthday =) While we were getting sat you can see the view and it really is gorgeous! Our server Jaime was nice and kept our waters full the whole night. The appetizer we had was ok. it was like a fried cheese ball. The bread was really good =) and my entrée was delicious. My boyfriend got the spaghettini and it was pretty good as well. For his birthday, Jaime brought us a slice of cheesecake which was amazing and im not usually that into cheesecake. He also wished my bf a Happy Birthday We took a picture outside and like i said before the view is absolutely gorgeous! The thing that really impressed me the most was the general manager Ilia(not sure about the spelling. We had a really late reservation to start with so by the time we were leaving it was 11:30 and I start looking for my keys and I couldn’t find them. I locked them in my car so I called AAA and it took them an hour to get there. The manager was so nice and offered us a drink while i was waiting and was just so nice. We just chatted the whole time and he was so down to earth and friendly. I definitely would like to come back again and recommend it to everyone! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Came here on Valentine’s day 2015. It was the perfect date night. The set menu was a bit pricey, yes, but worth every penny. The service was great and the food was delicious, which is consistent with the other times I’ve visited. I definitely recommend giving this place a try! On V-day, I enjoyed the Farmers salad and Alaskan Halibut which was cooked to perfection. My boyfriend got the bisque and the short rib and loved both as well. I ordered a glass of wine that I didn’t quite like(too dry for my taste) — fortunately, the waiter was very accommodating and offered me a different glass, no charge! The desserts introduced me to flavors i’ve never had before. Very good across the board Another time I came on a Wednesday, for what i thought would be quick drinks and appetizers, but the live music kept me there for hours! The location is beautiful; a fun-to-drive, windy road leads you up Mount Hamilton to the restaurant where you’ll have an amazing west-facing view of the twinkling lights of Santa Clara Valley. Take your time, enjoy the view, and you’ll have a great experience.

I came here last night for Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend. He made reservations a while ago and was told that there would be a pre-fixed menu and it would be $ 150/person. We were okay with the idea of a pre-fixed menu but when he asked it to be sent to him so we could check it out before we go, they never sent it. Also, the dinner turned out to be $ 115/person which is fine. However, the majority of the experience was awful. There’s probably only 1 star for the view and for the nice wait staff. To start with, the pre-fixed menu options weren’t good. For the first course, it was a chef’s choice version of a deviled egg. A deviled… egg… 1 egg served on a spoon, so I guess nice presentation, but it was topped with salmon and I don’t eat seafood. I was able to take off the salmon to try to eat the rest of the egg, but it still tasted too fishy. I wish there was a non-seafood first course option for all the people who don’t eat/like/are allergic to seafood. The second course had 3 options: a root vegetable bisque, farm salad, and mussels/clams dish option. When I saw this part I groaned. No option with regular, good old meat? So I opted for the root vegetable bisque since the farm salad isn’t really my taste and again, I don’t eat seafood. When the bisque was brought out, it looked good and it was topped with oats and cranberries. However, the bisque looked so small compare to the LARGE plate of mussels/clams my boyfriend received. I was confused by the portion sizes. The bisque was too sweet/boring in taste for me and my boyfriend noted that the mussels and clams in his dish did not taste fresh. For our entrees, there were 3 options as well: halibut, braised short rib, and a vegetarian option I believe. Here, my boyfriend and I both opted for the short rib option. The description sounded tasty enough. But after having the first two courses, we knew we were in for disappointment. The«braised short rib» was basically dry pot roast. And one thing that really angered me was that they gave me a tiny short rib portion while they have my boyfriend a portion twice the size of mine? How is that fair/smart to give two people completely and obviously different portion sizes and why would the waiter give me the smaller portion? –___– My boyfriend hated this dish and I didn’t even want to finish it. The vegetables provided were too sweet and the Chinese broccoli plated with it wasn’t cooked correctly. And now for dessert… I don’t quite understand restaurant desserts so I didn’t really care for it, but what annoyed me was that they put powdered sugar on my boyfriend’s dessert and not mine? I guess on a regular night where everything went well, I wouldn’t have cared but everything was awful as it was anyways. My boyfriend and I were able to laugh at how many little things were so wrong and in the end, we both felt jipped for a quality Valentine’s dinner. Oh also, when we were first seated, he didn’t have a fork and when he asked for one around the time he got his mussels, he received that tiny fork for the course, so he had to ask again for a regular fork. Also at the end of our meal, the waitress gave us some other table’s receipt and it took a while to be able to flag her down so we can let her know. We seriously just wanted to leave. We both think we probably had our expectations too high but really, if you’re going to give a pre-fixed menu, at least have good options. We really won’t be coming here again, but the view isn’t worth it. And parking sucked too. Tiny lot, no space. We took a spot along the hill that wasn’t a real spot and I wonder what the people who came after us had to do for parking. Edit: a lot of surprising 5 star reviews popped up after mine by people with no pictures, no friends, and it’s their first and only review… I would say that’s really suspicious and people should really think about the people behind this institution and the quality and type of reviews allowed for this business.

The restaurant had a great view. The quality of the food was just ok. I had Tiramisu for desert and it was soaking wet. When commenting to the waiter we got a simple«I’ll tell the Chef» never heard anything else. In general, we felt the waiter was somewhat rude and inconvenienced when we asked about more details and/or recommendation on the menu. Would possibly go back for drinks to sit on patio and enjoy sunset when it starts to warm up, however I would not make the trip for the food.

We were a party of six and it was our first time at the Grandview Restaurant. The views were breath taking and the food was exceptional. Lamb shank is a great choice! Our waitress Raea(sp) was funny, attentive and made our first dinner at this restaurant extremely enjoyable. The six of us plan on coming back. Great menu, great waitress, great food and the views as I said were amazing!

I loved the restaurant the view the ambiance and the food was great. The only problem I had was that I specifically asked for a window seat being that this was a special occasion and I wanted it to be just that, special. The hostess was very rude and unconcerned about my request saying that I did not ask for that in my reservation. I honestly did. Calling the patron a liar is really very rude.

I really love coming here. The atmosphere is so lovely. The staff is always very friendly and seem to take pride in the establishment. The bar has a great old Hollywood feel to me. The pianist sets a classy, old school tone. This place is just perfect for celebrating. I’ve come with family and with my boyfriend just to have an excuse to dress up and enjoy ourselves. PS. We first visited the new GV over a year ago, celebrating an anniversary dinner right after the reopening and already saw solid progress to what owner Maurice, GM Ilya and team have made a phenomenal local hot spot that feels a world away despite its location only 4 miles up on Mt. Hamilton Rd. From the live music in the bar/lounge to the attentive service and excellent cuisine, GV was my only choice for family birthday dinner yesterday! The calamari and jumbo prawn cocktail appetizers were very tasty but the standard entrees of cowboy steak, prime rib, and special lobster carbonara were simply delicious! We’ll definitely be back more often to enjoy the incredible valley views and overall 5 star experience!

Very classy restaurant, It make you feel you are out for a very special dinner. The piano adds the atmosphere for a very romantic evening. I had a Filet Mignon, it was cooked exactly as I asked, the sauce was not my favorite, but other may like it. I would like to say, for $ 45. an extra once more meat would be nice(other fine restaurants are able to do it). We also ordered the Gnocchi Pest, it was great. All four of us had a different dessert, and they were all great. With out a doughty, we will go back again. Richard,

View was impeccable ! Food was delicious Service was amazing The only issue I had here was that the wait for our played was extremely long. I made reservations for two. And we’re waiting sometime for the waiter to come back to take out orders. Then arrived another party of two and they say beside us. Waiter came took care of them and came back to them to take there order. It seemed as if they received there order much quicker than us. A party of 8 sat right behind me which they were extremely loud. I waited quite some time to receive our food which was frustrating because the people right beside us received there before ours. We still had our soup and salad there waiting to be picked up. Having to ask other waiters walking around for little things needed. Very much appreciated the service and waiter was super nice and helpful Just felt as if we were put to the side. I’ll probably come back but not for a while

We celebrated our anniversary here and it was fantastic! The food was delicious and the audience was extraordinary. Our server was friendly and attended to us as needed. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table and bread was given to hold us over. Outstand seating is possible and you can still hear the live band playing inside.

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday, she was soooo excited. A true shame it ended up kinda ruining her day, which in turn ruins mine. Let’s start from the top. Be very careful driving up/watch out for skateboarders. When we arrived the place was beautiful, and what a view! You walk in to a large bar area with wine cellar and bathrooms to your left. If people are at the bar you can’t see the hostess stand next to it so that’s confusing. While we waited to be seated we admired the walls which included, unfortunately, a fake Frank Sinatra autograph.(I’m a 25+ year autograph dealer) I made a joke at this point that I hope the food isn’t ‘fake’. The dining room is quite nice with crisp linen and full place settings. Since I was driving the hill I chose to stick with water but my gal had a great cocktail called a ‘Sweet Melissa’. From there it went pretty well downhill. I had the Pollo Parmigana, while my lady had the Lamb. While her lamb was delicious the food was plated haphazardly like some kind of art project, and the wine sauce was only barely flavoring her undercooked pasta. My chicken was cooked to the point it just broke apart as I cut it and the pasta with my meal was bland with no flavor whatsoever, I just left it on the plate. Both the busboy and waitress asked if I wanted a to go box to which I replied«It’s so bad I’m not eating it now, why would I eat it later?» I also asked the the cooks taste my pasta, then I watched my plate carried away and dumped. Bad practices. Quite simply not worth the time, effort, and price. A bad meal with a beautiful view. View = 1 Star, Staff = 1 Star, Food = –3 Stars

The view of the city from this restaurant was absolutely gorgeous during dinner time! Walking into the restaurant, you are greeted by a dim room with comfortable lounge chairs, a Christmas tree(at least during the holidays, haha), a bar, and the host/hostess booth. Telling the hostess that we had a reservation for a party of three, she immediately led us to our table that overlooked the beautiful city. We ordered a total of three dishes — Penne alla Siciliana, Calamari Fritti, and Short Rib Ravioli(one of the dinner specials). Honestly, I am not too much of a fan of pasta with a «spicy» kick, so I would not recommend the Penne alla Siciliana if you are not used to the distinct flavor of spicy pasta. However, my friends enjoyed it so I believe that dish is really is personal preference. We loved the Calamari Fritti, as it was fried wonderfully and came with a delicious dipping sauce. I absolutely enjoyed the Short Rib Ravioli, as each bite into the ravioli came with tender and marinated short rib. Unfortunately, I wish the Short Rib Ravioli was a bigger serving size, as there were only six small ravioli pieces on the dish — nevertheless, it was delicious! As for the prices, the entrees cost a bit more than average, but they were not TERRIBLY expensive for the fancy ambiance and beautiful location of the restaurant. I would have given this restaurant 5 stars, but my friend noted how one of the employees gave us a bit of attitude and didn’t treat us with proper respect most likely because of the fact that we looked«young» and«not in place» for the fancy restaurant. Despite this treatment, I would definitely recommend taking your other half for a fancy date night :) P. S. The drive here is a bit of a curvy road, so drive carefully(especially at night)!

Came here for NYE dinner. First off, there were some snafus with the reservation. When I originally called weeks in advance, they told me to come at 5pm for their special NYE event and dinner. I thought this was odd since that was on the early side, especially for NYE. When I called to confirm the reservation they told me it was actually for 8:45pm! Not a big deal, since I wanted to come later anyway, but still not a good sign. Also, the person answered the phone with a simple«hello», not very professional for a restaurant. The food was a bit disappointing all around. Oysters Rockefeller were pretty tasty, but the soup I ordered was some kind of root vegetable pureed soup and was very bland and was really lacking in some texture. The mushroom pappardelle I ordered for dinner had way too much oil on it– you could even see a puddle of the oil at the bottom of the plate. It made both me and my boyfriend feel kind of gross because it was so heavy. We got the cheesecake for dessert– pretty much the only really impressive thing here besides the beautiful view. It was perfectly creamy and had the top layer with sour cream that I like. The waiter we had was very professional and nice, but did mix up my order for the entrée and dessert. All around, we were expecting more from all the good reviews, but we really felt like it wasn’t worth the price we paid. We could have paid the same price and had much better food even in SF. I’d say, if you want to dine with an amazing view, and don’t mind mediocre food, then this is the place to go. But if you value quality and taste of dishes more than a great view, then go elsewhere.

Dinner for 4 at 8:30 on the Wednesday before Christmas(Dec 23). The drive up Mt. Hamilton is a bit windy, but a prize awaits you. You can park in the lot or across the street in-front of the green gated fence. The parking lot is a bit small, and the owners bought the ranch across the street for an organic garden, and additional parking(in the future). The place was packed! This was locals night, and the wait staff reports the place was filled up since Maurice purchased the place in late 2014 and did a top to bottom re-vamp. Made open-table reservations, and had to move them twice(the staff was quite accommodating on a busy night), and anxious to seat us before 9:00PM. The bar area was crowded(folks looked like they were having fun) and music was blaring through the speakers — we were nervous about noise at dinner, but once we got to our table, it was at ‘easy conversation’ level. Ask for a table by the window(it was too cold to eat outside). We sat one table away from the window, and the view was excellent. There were tables for 2 and 4 and a number of holiday parties 10 to 20 people each underway — quite a festive evening. The hostess sat us and passed out the paper menus(mine had an oil stain on it which was quite put-offish), and a single ‘special’ menu(again this was a single sheet of paper — couldn’t they pass out four of these?). A good selection of proteins, fun cocktails and wines-by-the-glass(full wine list available). They don’t push or over pour alcohol — better chance to and joy the meal and company and drive safely back down the hill. Our waiter knew the menu, history of the restaurant and wines well, and it was clear he was quite proud to work there. He helped us with a Sauv Blanc selection(ironically we opened a bottle he never tasted — but he was quite helpful in the process. He brought over Maurice the owner, which was a nice touch. He was quite busy, but spent a few minutes with us and we discussed his plans(esp with the ranch across the street), his family, the restaurant and the locals(we are ones). The food was ‘solid’, but I had expected a bit better given the prices. Examples — oyster Rockefeller had an amazing smoky flavor with the chorizo, but was served warm(not hot), Pasta Siciliana had a great flavor but was a bit mushy, and starchy mashed potatoes were served with two lighter dishes(a great salmon with Cabernet sauce and a veal scallopini). A bit more attention to detail is all that is needed here. Things got a little rushed after the meal was over(it was clear they were trying to closeup by 10:00 — 10:30), we weren’t offered a desert menu — but to our surprise we were brought out two complimentary deserts(which were delicious and appreciated). We ordered cappuccino — but the waiter informed us the machine was not ‘up and running yet’ at the new restaurant(after one year?). All in all we had a nice dinner and we will be back. A few items that need some work — this review is closer to 3.5 than 4, but we like the progress, the wait staff and Maurice.

WOW, I really enjoyed this place. I just joined a new company, and we somehow last minute, got seats here for a small company. We had about 18 people and though there were many people, our service was great. The food here was amazing, though it did take a bit longer than I wanted too, but we did have 18 people. This place has a great view, but it was a bit tough to get up the mountain. Its not a long drive, but rather quick and windy. It’s worth the view and it was such a clear night. Check out my blog on our company dinner here. There are some photos of the view in there. Our server were really awesome too. This was so last minute and they were able to accommodate us! I got the ribeye medium rare, which was done perfect! loved it. I ate the whole plate up with nothing to give away, haha and the view can I say again! wow If i had a girlfriend, I would take her here often. ;D

I took my fiancé here back in September for her birthday. This restaurant lives up to the 5 stars. The only downside is the long winding road coming up. Once you’re up there though the view is amazing. When you walk in they have a band playing. The music is a definite throwback to the«rat pack». The wait to be seated was very short. We opted for the outside since it wasn’t too cold and got a better view. The food itself was spectacular. I had the veal shank and my fiancé had the gnocchi pesto. The portions were huge! The cocktails are also pretty good here too. I will definitely be coming back.

I can only give 5 stars but I would give 10. This gem has been completely renovated to reflect the new vibe of the Silicon Valley lead by Mauricio. Frank Sinatra would like the lounge and music but it’s the food and view that would keep him there for the night. Brunch: brioche French toast! Lunch: House made salamis and salad Dinner: the entire menu please. Staff: First class from reception to table to chef to management. Rare. Great wine selection and try one of Tom the bartenders special margaritas or Grand hattan Oh, and the view is grand. Coming soon is the Grandview Farm. A slice of the harvest the valley once was known for. Brilliant. Perfect time of year to see holiday lights from the top of the valley. Bravo!

Gorgeous view! Great food and stellar service! The bf took me here for my bday dinner and it was so amazing, the drive up there had windy roads and pitch black if going at night but it wasn’t to long of that, maybe 15 minutes at most. The restaurant band was awesome, I loved the music they were playing, the layout and architecture of the place was gorgeous. We had a reservation and were seated right when we got there. The gentleman that served us was very attentive and brought us our drinks and appetizers right away. What surprised me was their prices, they are not super expensive like you would think for a fancy restaurant like this, which is nice! Food: Caprese salad: was so fresh and tasty, I’ve been craving it ever since Sweet Melissa drink: of course I had to try because my name is Melissa, and honestly was soooo yummy, I finished that one quick Chicken parmigiana: was yummy, the breaded chicken was not soggy at all but crispy and just right I would definitely return here for lunch can or dinner!

I have to dock a star. Our recent experience was awful. So bad, I realized that had it been my first time there, I would never return. For better or worse, it was an equally poor experience for us and everyone else in the restaurant; you could see the anger and frustration mounting on the faces of all those around us. Really disappointing, especially considering the caliber of this restaurant. If I didn’t know they can do better, I honestly would not come back. Even so, it’ll take me awhile to.

This is hands down one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to and I highly recommend you to take your partner here for a dinner! I made an online reservation 2 weeks ahead at 6:15 so my friend and I could be seated and see the view when there’s a sun as well as see the sunset while we sat down. Let me just say it was BEAUTIFUL! We waited in line for about 5 minutes and we requested to sit outside. Yes, there’s an option to sit indoors. Don’t worry, they have heaters outside if temperature concerns you. I ordered the linguini and clams and oh my gosh it was great. There were enough clams and the linguini definitely filled me up! There was definitely enough clams for every bite. It was flavorful and it was rich in texture. My friend also ordered Stoli Vodka which was amazing. I think I found my new favorite drink. It contains ginger so when you drink the alcohol, it suppresses the alcohol. Customer service was on point as well. Our server and the rest of the staff was very friendly. One even had the time to tell us about the historical facts about the restaurant since we were curious. Apparently, it’s been open since the 1880’s and was just transformed into a restaurant after the original owners didn’t want it. Everything here was perfect and it was better than what I thought. I would LOVE to come back!

The food selection is really exquisite and the portions are just enough. they have live bands playing every day except Thursdays which is their quiet night and they have events going on for locals. I think I should visit this place More often, they have a really nice bar where people hang out with the live band. Our waiter was very informative about the menu and the restaurants history. Thanks Jamie you were a great help! We are sure coming back and thanks for the cheesecake it was the best!

I’m a huge sucker for spectacular views and ambiance, the Grandview did a phenomenal job on this restaurant. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to go out on a romantic date night with someone special. The roads to the restaurant is rather narrow and dangerous so drink responsibly if you plan to enjoy some of their cocktails or wines. I really enjoyed how there was a pianist near the entrance and there were speakers in the outdoor patio we sat at so we were still able to hear him play the piano and sing. They also had an iPad wine menu for any bottles! +Food+ Crab Cakes: This was on their special and they were out on some of their appetizers so we decided to order this dish. I am a crab cake fanatic and this was probably the most«cakey» crab cakes I have ever had! Yes it means there was not much crab in them. I would recommend the classic calamari over this appetizer. Wine: We just got chardonnay which came chilled, but nothing fancy. Pasta: We felt like pasta that night and my bf got his seafood pasta with red sauce and I got my clam linguini with wine sauce. Sorry I don’t remember the italian names of the dishes! Both dishes had an abundant amount of fresh seafood and just the right portion. I must say this place is more for the view than the food. +Ambiance+ I love places that have a great view and this place is one of my favorites! The restaurant faces the whole city of San Jose and I can just sit here for hours just enjoying the view! I love the decoration in the bar area with comfy couches and an amazing pianist. In the lower level of the restaurant there is actually a wedding venue! There’s also a very pretty fountain as well.
