Nestled at the base of the Catskills near winding mountain streams, this is a wonderful place to enjoy a delicious meal or to stay in a comfortable room. We were fortunate to be able to do both during our two day visit. The rooms are laid out in such an attractive and logical way, we felt quite at home from the start. The homemade scones and goodies left in the refrigerator made a delicious start to our day. There are lots of hiking trails nearby and the scenery around the place seems like something out of a picture book. Woodstock is easily accessible and is fun to explore. Our dinners in the restaurant were amazing. Each night we faced a difficult decision because there were multiple appetizers, soups, salads, and entrees which appealed to us. Be sure to save room for dessert as those are delicious as well.

Hard to imagine that it gets much better than this in the Catskills … about as local, friendly, and peaceful as you can imagine, and that goes both for the dining and the lodging. My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights here over Labor Day weekend. We had eaten dinner at the restaurant a few years back and vowed to try a room given our great dining experience and the quiet area. Our expectations were met and exceeded. Just down the road in Phoenicia or Woodstock, there were crowds bustling and traffic moving through town, but you would never know it here. We had three very restful nights with the window open hearing nothing but the crickets outside. The owners put a lot of nice touches into our stay — fresh, delicious scones and fruit every morning; very attentive but unobtrusive cleaning every day. The result was a very clean, private, and comfortable room. Very much a home away from home. I should mention too that the décor of our room was modern, not dingy or dated, and yet not so modern as to not fit with the rural feeling of the place. Peter and Rose are very approachable when you reach out to them but you don’t get the sense that they’re eyeing your every move. My girlfriend was not feeling well for most of our stay, and Peter gave us some directions to a place for a nice light hike(the Tan Bark Trail in Phoenicia) and a stroll along the incredibly scenic Ashokan reservoir. We dined at the restaurant one night and had as good a meal there as our first visit — there was clearly expert detail and attention paid to putting together our dishes. And I’m pretty sure that many of the ingredients were from the raised bed gardens in their yard. Very delicious. As much as I like to try different things in an area, we are sure to stay here again in the future for a quiet weekend. I would recommend Catskill Rose to anyone traveling to or through the Catskills.

We had another amazing dinner at Catskill Rose last night. This gem of a restaurant has never disappointed us. Really creative cooking, with depth of flavor, both the meat eater and vegetarian were very satisfied. Scrumptious forest mushroom pâté, tender and delicious lamb, wonderful parsnip ravioli with vegetable glory! Another couple was sparring over who got to lick up the last of the homemade ice cream. We totally loved our desert: moist hazelnut/chocolate meringue cake! Go to Catskill Rose. You will be happy you found it.

One of our favorite Catskills restaurants. Very creative menus that are constantly changing and consistently good food. The chef/owner is super nice and so is the waitstaff. Don’t just come here for the lodging… come for the food!

Spent a long weekend here while attending my sister’s wedding in late June 2014. Did not have a chance to try the dining room, which I’m told is excellent, but the lodging side of things is pretty nice, too. There are four rooms available. Based on what I saw in Room 3, the rooms are either new or recently renovated… no older than a couple years… because everything is in excellent condition. There’s a nice mix of semi-modern/New England cabin décor feel to the place. Shower and sink are clean and work well. There’s a microwave and minifridge as well, and a powerful air conditioner(although figuring out the remote control that turns it on/off was a little tricky at first). There was an issue with the toilets clogging somewhat while we were there but I don’t think that was CR’s fault; a nasty thunderstorm came through the night before we arrived and all sorts of public utilities(power, phone, road access, internet connectivity) were having issues across the region. The bed was a full king size, which is very nice. Our mattress was a memoryfoam and very soft. Great if you like that, which I did… but if your tastes skew firmer that might be an issue for you. YMMV. Like a lot of the Catskills, cellphone service is very spotty. My Verizon phone had just one tenuous bar of phone-only service(no 3G or 4G), and my wife’s Virgin Mobile/Sprint had no service at all. There is free wifi available, though — it worked fine for us. There is a TV and DVD player in the room but we never turned it on; didn’t need to(wedding organization & execution took up most of our time — we just needed a place to sleep that was a reasonable drive from the wedding locale and CR fit the bill). FWIW, the CR is more a «Bed & Dinner» than«Bed & Breakfast». They provide your room with a couple apples, a coffeemaker and some scones… and the scones are DELICIOUS I must say. But that’s it. The real food is at dinnertime and again, I’m told it’s really good but I didn’t have a chance to try it. Check out the other reviews of the CR as a restaurant on Unilocal for details. All in all, I was pleased by the stay and would recommend it to others needing a nice place to stay near the Ashokan Reservoir in the Catskills.(it’s near Woodstock and Phoenicia)

Finding a good meal in this part of upstate New York is usually an exercise in futility. However, we recently ate dinner at the Catskill Rose, which turned out to be a gem of a restaurant! The smoked trout appetizer, which is served with a creative array of accompaniments, is exceptional. For the main courses, the smoked duck with sour cherry sauce was excellent, and the pork shank with sage mustard sauce was very good. The only downside to this restaurant is that the wine list is far below the quality of the food. The Catskill Rose is located off of the main drag, and weather permitting, dining on the lovely outside patio is highly recommended. We will definitely eat here again!

This is a fabulous restaurant! The food was amazing! The chef must have been trained in the finest of schools. Every bite had a marvelous combination of flavor-filled delights that stays on my memory days later. I cant wait to go back! The duck appetizer was simply amazing, and the lamb was incredible! Even the Martinis were better than I have had anywhere else! And they say you have to go to NYC for fine cuisine! Ha! We have a gem right here in Mount Tremper!

Was on a trip with friends in Phoenecia and Unilocaled this place. They literally served my three friends and I the worst meal of our lives. We eat everything under the sun but had one bite and could not bear to put anymore in our mouths. The pork chop must have been rubbed in salt. The sweet potato gnocchi sounded like a great idea, but was like biting into a wax candlestick. It was as though five year olds had cooked a meal and served it to us a day later. And on top of it all, the night we went there was only one man running the whole restaurant, the service was terrible and said man was horribly rude. Never again!

On a weekend trip to Woodstock I stumbled upon this Inn/Restaurant. It is wonderful place to stay and dine. The room was contemporary and well appointed. The food was organically fresh and delicious. The smoked trout polenta salad was amazing. The tamarind spare ribs were surprisingly succulent. Crème brûlée was absolutely one of the best I’ve had-really! The Catskill Rose is a definite keeper.

This place has definitely had a make over since the last review. The dining room isn’t huge, but it’s nice. The only complaint was the it was so quiet in there, it was like dining in a library! Good eateries are rare up in this area, and we was pleasantly surprised with Catskill Rose. Our server was really great. While the restaurant wasn’t crowded, he was still polite and attentive, and he offered good insights when we were picking out wine. I visited with my two sisters over the Christmas holiday. The menu is great. I love Catskill Rose’s take on fresh and organic foods, and the chef definitely has some skill and creativity. We all started with appetizers and then moved onto our main courses, and it was the perfect amount of food for us. The steak was the star dish of the night. The price, for the quality of food, is excellent. Bottom Line: In our short stay up in the Catskills, we had our best meal here. It’s worth the drive if you’re in the area.

Restaurants can be very hit and miss in the area and fortunately, Catskill Rose is definitely a hit. Great new American food and fantastic service. I’d give it 5 stars, but it really needs a decorating makeover. The décor is kind of on the«granny» and cheap side. Also the lighting is really bad. It’s so bright in there. There’s no intimacy or romance to be found. And sadly, it’s a turnoff and shame since the food is so good. If the décor was more stylish, rustic & inviting, I know I’d eat here more often. But, if you don’t care about décor, then hit up Catskill Rose for a delicious meal.
