Big Rock Roadhouse & Pizzeria

This is the place to get pizza in Mount Vernon. For years there has been absolutely no good pizza restaurants. I’ve had pizza here twice. First time we ordered the Hawaiian and added lamb sausage to it. The second time we ordered and pick up the roundabout pizza and the shepherds pizza. So delicious! Love the lamb sausage! I’ve had other things on the menu here. Mostly fired things and they were OK. Great place to grab a beer, hang out, watch the game in a neat atmosphere. But do yourself a favor when you order and get the pizza. So yummy.

If zero stars was an option, I would go with that.
The evening started out okay. I arrived and got a table in the back because we had a large party. The gal that welcomed me was very kind and eager. The rest of my party arrived and ordered some drinks, which took about 15 minutes to get and that’s when it started going down hill. The friendly gal disappeared and was no longer serving us. She was replaced with this gal who had the personality of a wet mop. She wasn’t overly efficient or even pleasant.
Once we ordered our meal, it took well over an hour for it to arrive. The place wasn’t busy enough to warrant over an hour wait time… especially when two of the six orders were just salads. Five of our meals arrived and we dug in, but something was missing. The sixth order. Our buddy finally got his food while we were just about to finish up.
Overall the food was awful, which is a shame because four of us have been enjoying Big Rock together for the last few years, and we had just been telling the other two how awesome the food is. One steak was completely cold. The fries were soggy and pitiful. The steak in my salad was also completely cold. When we presented our concerns to the wet mop, instead of apologizing for our dissatisfaction she responded with «yeah, okay. uh huh. okay». There was no apology, there wasn’t even a worthy acknowledgement.
From the time we entered the establishment, to the time we left, we had ended up wasting almost three hours of our evening. It’s entirely disappointing that a place we have loved for so many years has gone down the drain. I’m not sure what changed, but it wasn’t a positive one. This is a small valley, and word travels fast. Hopefully for the sake of other patrons, they get their act together. It’s too bad we won’t be back for a redemption.

Been going here for years. Took well over an hour to get our food. Barely got any service. Steak was cold in the middle. Chicken was cold. Fries were soggy. Took an hour to even get our check… Total… we were there for almost 3 hrs!
And now my husband and I are sick with some gut rot.
Never again.

Still a 3 star just for the atmosphere and taste of the food. Tonight, however, the cook went on a break letting our clam chowder and onion rings sit around until they both got cold. The pizza arrived burnt, now we were really confused because last visit was perfect. We were informed that they were training a new cook. Training a cook? Shouldn’t a cook know how to cook before he enters the work place. Whoever this guy is he shouldn’t continue if they want to continue to receive good reviews. The establishment is a great atmosphere great people and normally great food, hire a new cook that you don’t have to train, especially on a Friday night. We’ll be back figuring this was just a fluke.
The next pizza tasted burnt as well, we might not be back, how disappointing.

Have eaten here numerous times without my boys and wanted to treat them to the pizza today.
Upon entering we were greeted and given menus immediately. Then however left alone for about 10 min. When the waitress did make her way back around she seemed irritated and impatient to take our order.
So we placed our order…45 min later we finally received our food. This was a 2 hour ordeal mind you and the place was ½ empty when we got there.
While there I observed two tables leave and several others have the same look of disbelief as me. Thank goodness I didn’t have a small child. This is not the place for them.
Overall the food was good, but the service needs some serious work.

Let me start by saying that this is still one of my favorite drinking holes for a good beer. They have a good local beer selection.
That being said… I’m not sure what’s happened to this place in the last year or so.
I definitely like their pizza and fried seafood but their food quality has definitely gone downhill overall.
The prices are ridiculous. Way too high!
And the worst part of this place is the wait staff. They are nice enough when they actually check on you but that is pretty infrequent. VERY long wait times for food and inattentive staff had ruined this place for me.
To the new owners: You guys can fix all of this. As a local I beg you to get this place back up to the standards that were set by the past owners.
