Steam House Restaurant and lounge

Omg, I went here for the first time last night, and what a treat. My experience started off rocky, but the staff went above and beyond to rectify it. They had a live band and comedians which was unexpected. The food, was finger licking good. I have NEVER eaten all my food while I am out, but I did last night. I cannot wait to go back and try other things on the menu.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! It’s my own fault. I knew that I didn’t enjoy the food the first time I went. I gave it the benefit of the doubt because I went at the end of brunch. I couldn’t be upset when they were running out of food, or the food didn’t taste so good. This time however, I went with a group and we got there for dinner at 7:00pm. We didn’t order until about 7:45. But there was literally only one other table filled with people. The other people who were there, were there for line dancing (I’ll get to that).
We all ordered and after 15 minutes, we still didn’t have our food. I actually asked the waitress to put in the order of one guest who still hadn’t arrived. After about 45 minutes, food finally begins to come out. Everyone got their food except me (and the late arriver). The late arriver asked to change her order, but was told that her steak had already begun to cook. She got there around 8:10 — 8:15, at least 10 – 15 minutes before the food started coming out. Our server realized after about 10 minutes of walking back and forth, that I was sitting there watching everyone eat. She tells me that my pasta had to be cooked separately because I ordered chicken and everyone else ordered shrimp. She then brings out my side dish of Spinach.
The side was such a small portion it was laughable. I brought it to the server’s attention. After walking away and speaking to someone, she whispered to me that they had run out of spinach and my colleague and I got the last of it. They had more and she would bring me some. Why did she even confess that though? The new spinach came with my food. The late arriver got her food at the same time I did. My other colleague didn’t receive more spinach. Yet another colleague had to send her crab cakes back because they were not appetizing at all. She ended up getting chicken wings (which by the way, came out at least 10 – 15 minutes before my food).
I wouldn’t go back here. The server was so nice, but she was fighting an uphill battle. IF I go back it will specifically be on a Monday night to do line dancing, because the group who were teaching were fabulous. They were entertaining an engaging. IF I go back, rest assured, I’ll eat before I get there, or I will go down the block to McDonald’s!

Called in to order a shrimp salad for lunch, I live a few towns over, when arriving and patiently waiting for the host to end her call the chef came out and asked if I ordered fried chicken, I politely said no, he goes on a rant about not having lettuce and not going back to work in a hot kitchen, the host then turns to me and said something about something not working, just pissed that I drove over for nothing.

Very nice restaurant, the people are friendly. The food was excellent. I’ve been there 3 times and I’ve never been disappointed. I recommend the oxtails with rice and peas. A Jamaican favorite.

2, I come with my son, over 10 miles to have dinner and y’all tell me I can’t eat cause it just me? So what? I already paid, and it doesn’t say dine in only
3, it was nooooo type of courtesy
4, a friend of mines had their rasta pasta and it’s not all that anyway. For all that I can take the drive to BK and go to Bed stuy fish fry for the real deal.

Lets just say I’ll never return to this place and I’m very upset that I even had to give it a star. Where do I start the alcohol drinks taste like juice they pour is really off. I ordered some wings and 1 and a half hour later still no wings. DON’T I repeat DON’T waste you time are money going to this place. Not to mention, the place was not even busy on a Thursday night. 3 other customers tops.

Had lunch there recently was not very busy but the food was very good I really enjoyed my oxtails and my lunch date was very pleased with her seafood delight

So I’ve been to this place twice. The first time the food and service were mediocre but this time MUCH better. I got the oxtails, and like another poster said they were the best I’d had in a while. Seasoned well but not fire in your mouth. The rice and peas were equally delicious, perfectly done with a slight coconut flavor. Ended up getting an extra order of the rice to take home with my leftovers. The chicken wing appetizer was good and the restaurant staff was friendly. I wasn’t impressed with the décor but I’ll go again.

It took me FIVE-​EVER to write this review. Let me get this out of the way…
I’ll rate the food first being that it was the only semi-​decent thing I experienced at this place. Food alone was at least 4 stars. Could’ve used more seasoning (Snapper w| spinach & mac & cheese), but still not much to complain about.
Now, for the overall experience.
The whole set-​up is confusing. It’s supposed to be a restaurant/​bar/​lounge, but the whole place is filled with tables, and there’s no type of lounge. There’s a bar right when you walk in the door. The music was also extremely loud.
I came to this place because a coworker recommended it, and because of the positive Unilocal reviews. I heard it had just opened, so I figured I would give it a go. Never. Again. When I walked in, I wasn’t greeted at all. There was just a bunch of dudes and a hostess (?) behind a counter. I found my company and seated myself. When I looked at the menu, I noticed that there was no drinks listed. But, I remembered on Unilocal that they had Rum Punch. When the waitress came over, I could tell this entire meal would be a disaster. First of all, her stomach was poking out of her Baby Gap shirt, and her entire appearance screamed: «I have no idea what I’m doing». My friend and I were indecisive with our choices, but eventually we picked what we wanted. My friend also ordered an appetizer (5 Jerk chicken plantains?). While the waitress was walking away, I had to remind her that I wanted a drink… since she didn’t ask me. She took my order and went. It was at least 10 mins before I got my drink. Mind you, she walked past our table 5 times before a lightbulb went off in her head to give me what I asked for (I legit saw the lightbulb). I mean, I could see if the place was busy, but there was only 3 active tables! When I got my drink, it was WAY too strong, so I asked her to please have it fixed, which she did.
Anyway, she warned us that our food would take a while because we ordered snapper and that our other friend’s meal would be out first (okay). Aren’t these things supposed to be timed out??? Whatever. We get the appetizer, and there’s only 3 on the plate. My friend flagged her down and let her know that there’s supposed to be 5. The waitress just looked at her confusingly, and went to tell the kitchen. They were supposed to be plantains with some type of chicken on top. 20 mins after we asked her, she brings out 2 dry ass plantains with no chicken. Yeah.
Our meal finally comes ages later, and it really wasn’t bad, I can’t lie (but I heard the OG chef quit). It was just… The atmosphere. For example: THERE WAS A BABY AT THE BAR. A baby. A. Baby. And our waitress never came over to ask how everything was going. But she made sure to hover over me while I was signing my receipt to see how much of a tip she was getting (ahem* $ 0.00). Like, who does that?! Completely unprofessional. I haven’t gone back since that day, and I probably never will unless it’s takeout.

THE WORST!!! I went there for dinner and ½ the items that were on the menu, they didn’t have. Why even open for the day if you don’t have an adequate amount of food to service your customers? One of the cooks came out to apologize and offered a round of free drinks, which we took but the drinks were weak and watered down. After seeing the cook, I was leary about the food based on, lets just say, she didn’t look too clean. I was offered to return and next time, «she got me» but, I am not interested in returning. To make my experience even worst, I wasn’t took that didn’t have the items that I ordered until 15 minutes after I ordered.

Love this place. I’m here at least once bi-​weekly. I love the Mac and cheese with the jerk wings! Karaōke night is fun. Give the Angus waffle sliders a try.

Awful service. Waited 2 hours for delivery. The food was dry and barely warm. They forgot the sauce and refuse to make a second trip because the delivery person’s shift was coming to an end. Decided We did not want the food but they refuse to give any credit (besides a free side order for the next order) and informed us that we could not return the food. I will never order from them again. Very unprofessional.

I came here for the first time in New Years Eve 2013 coming into 2014… Steamhouse was brand new then. We had such a good time and all i could remember was the food they had as part of the nye buffet. Now they’re on grubhub and i was starving tonight. Decided to call in am order. I ordered the chicken and waffles. My husbamd and i decided to go in advance amd have a drink. The bartender was so nice. The drinks were on point. Got my order to go. I got home the chicken was still hot. Needless to say i enjoyed it thoroughly. Next time rasta pasta no doubt

One word… TERRIBLE. Went to this place for a friend’s birthday dinner and arrived at 7pm. The food did not come until 11:15pm. The place did not even feel like a restaurant and instead felt like a rest stop canteen. The waitresses were courteous but had absolutely no experience in the food service/​management business. The appetizers were chicken wings with the sides of carrots and celery. I knew we were in trouble when the menu came and was hand written. This was not some kitchy little touch to add to the restaurant, someone just didn’t take care to even type them!
I placed my order around 7.20 and ordered herbed chicken, rice and peas and vegetables. It took them three and a half hours to bring me my food and when I asked I was rudely told «it’s coming». Although I was there with a large party it should not take almost 4 hours to receive and entrée. The wait staff/​restaurant workers were not even apologetic for their terrible, disgusting display. This was truly disappointing. I hope that they learn to provide better service, otherwise it would be best for everyone if this place was shut down.

This place is awesome, I went here with a couple of friends. I had the oxtails with rice and peas and Mac and cheese and I must say it was probably the best oxtails I’ve tasted in awhile. The food is GREAT ! The only reason I’m giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the drinks. All of their drinks are sold I a lowball glass. For 15 a Henny colada in a lowball glass it’s 15 dollars. That’s right ! 15 dollars ! As a bartender I know that long islands and Henny coladas should not be served in a lowball glass! Overall this place is very laid back, great customer service and music, this will now be my «to go place »

Ha! where to begin. I had came here off the strength that my friend went here and said the food was great, and the Unilocal reviews were good. I was highly mistaken and highly disappointed.
It was me and my 3 friends, soon as we got there we were seated, why because it was empty… on a thursday which for me is rare and different, but we stayed never the less. Anyway our waitress «Princess» came and asked for out drink orders which she got wrong, 3 waters and a sprite? And you don’t know who ordered what?! I knew we were in trouble, and this lead us to know we were dealing with someone with NO experience.
As for the food, i wanted the salmon which they had ran out of –_​– so i got the fried chicken. My friends ordered the jerk chicken quesadillas, jerk wings, and shrimp. My food came out cold, which it shouldnt have because everything is supposedly made fresh. The jerk quesadillas were highly disappointing, no flavor, too many veggies and was just very lack luster. The jerk wings didnt even seemed cooked, the outer part was gummy texture, even though the inside appeared to be cooked. The mac and cheese was probably the only good thing they had along with the rum punch.
After the disappointing food, we then move on to the biggest mistake of the night splitting the bill. Which turned into a big mess. She didnt know what she was doing at all, and apparently can’t seem to follow direction either. It ended up being a big headache and probably one of the worse restaurant experiences of my life. I will never go here again.

Went out for the night and had a great time !! Request Naihma as your waitress she is the best! Her energy makes the experience wonderful! I would recommend this location for a girls night ! Especially on a Thursday. «Karaōke Night»

Best Spot in Mt. Vernon to get food, the ambience is great, Service is on point, bartenders made beautiful and exceptional drinks, they help you decide what you would like to drink if you don’t know off head, The house Dj plays every kind of music and keeps the crowd well entertain, great spot for after work and hosting events such as birthday dinners, baby showers, and other events. The Best part about Steam House is the price are reasonable so you don’t have to go all the way to City Island for seafood with there expensive prices, you have an Grade «A» Restaurant right in the neighborhood, Love it

Great restaurant with a intimate and classy décor. I love the food and the place has a warm and inviting appeal. I like Sparkle and karaōke Thursday and its a nice space which doesn’t feel like a dive. When you sit down and get into the music and being able to watch the fight or game. This is someplace I plan to visit again and again.

I heard of this new place opening in mount Vernon and I was eager to try. I love trying new restaurants, I came here the week of opening for their Sunday all you can eat brunch for 22.95 $ which comes with unlimited lemonade and orange juice, it also comes with one mimosa and any additional mimosa only. 2 BUCKS… It was great they had a mixture of food from the Caribbean and traditional African American soul food including cod fish fritters, ackee and salt fish to grits and homes fries, fried chicken and fish, eggs bacon and a host of a lot of other foods, which I tried all and I know the scale will say a few lbs extra because I ate it all (yummy).
Not only was the food good but the service was excellent. My waitress name was Essay and she was so friendly and personable. She catered to us like we were the ones in the room even tho it was pretty busy. However she wasn’t over bearing with her approach. You could her love for helping and waiting on the people in the restaurant was sincere and genuine.
I Liked the choice of music really mellow and fitting for a Sunday brunch. I can see it becoming a weekly brunch meeting place for me to catch up with friends.
I can’t wait to come back and try the lunch/​dinner menu and seeing how the lounge does for a crowd my age on a Thursday Friday or Saturday night.
