Great company to work, for positive, talented and highly-motivated people. It gives opportunity to be really successful in life. Excellent place to work for people with good work ethics and high standards.

Kirby is a wonderful cleaning system, but the way this and many other kirby distributors run business is reprehensible at best, and fraudulent at worst. I needed a job bad and applied after being lured in by the offer of a door-to-door sales gig with a guaranteed base pay that would be paid if the commissions from the sales didn’t exceed that. But we were all reassured that seasoned dealers can make $ 1000 off a single sale, although the new guys would make something more like $ 250 at first. But as long as we did the required 15 demos every week, we’d get our $ 500 every week even with zero sales. Then there are all the nice bonuses for people who have 3+ sales in a week. Sounds good, right? There are huge lies in this arrangement. For one, the typical commission is more like $ 50 for the dealer and $ 25 for the person who knocks on the door(aka marketing rep) where that sale got made. $ 1000 comish can be made if someone plunks down the $ 3295MSRP in cash. On the other hand if someone with lousy credit finances the deal or person doing the close lowballs the deal, you’re only going to get $ 50. As I found out later, one of my deals closed at $ 2200, but due to financing issues, I only get $ 50 instead of $ 450 i would get if this was a cash deal. Of course, all of these minor details only got explained once I got my first paycheck a week and a half later and found out all I get is $ 150 for two unpaid days of training and coming to the office at 9:30 only to be back home well after 10pm six days a week. The second big lie is the guaranteed $ 500 per week as long as 15 demos are done. You are simply NOT going to get more than three demos per day. Sometimes you can spend 12 hours in the van and banging on doors, and only have one or zero demos that whole day. The week and a half that i’ve been there, I don’t think I got 15 demos total. If you get 14 demos for that week after working 7 days, too bad. Commission only. One day we were riding around knocking on doors in the rain all day, and we got only three appts total for a crew of five or six people. That sealed the deal for me personally. There is a reason why this office doesn’t run a draw system — they’d go broke. Don’t get me wrong — seasoned team leaders and dealers do make good money, and that money gets only better if you managed to get promoted above a TL. If you have the talent and the commitment, you can go very far in a matter of a couple years. On the other hand, you will be out in the field for 12+ hours a day six days a week making money that is only a fraction of the minimum wage. If you can stick it out through an arrangement like this, find a distributor that actually puts effort into developing promising dealers and canvassers and pays them decent money. If you are trying to make a living and have any friends or family, you’re better off elsewhere.

My son has been with the company for over a year. A follow up from a previous review: * The company has been great to my son. There are multiple positions and they pay above average. * They dont use a draw program, he gets paid weekly. * The office is a beautiful building that sits on the golf course. * My son said that new people aren’t required to take anything home, it’s completely voluntary. I asked him to bring one home since the reviews and I love it. We bought one. I hope this helped with some insights. Gary J.

These people are actually like crooks. In fact, they stole my DYSON. I think it was as good or even a little better in some situations, and the Dyson is MUCH quieter. And the Dyson doesn’t use any bags. They never told me they were taking my old vacuum cleaner away and I didn’t notice it missing until much later after they left. They said the noise would be 1⁄3 less meaning much quieter with the bag on, because the demonstration only had the paper filter discs. But it was just as loud if not louder. These people will team up on you and super hard sell the financing. You can get the Kirby for $ 1,000 from me becasue they won’t take mine back, or from them if you stick to your guns and don’t offer them a penny more than $ 1,

OTI or One Team International of Mountain View, CA places ads on Craigslist looking for people to hire. No experience necessary. $ 2000 per month. Will provide training. They do not identify themselves as a Kirby vacuum cleaner distributor. The office is a rundown mobile. There is no sign. There is no web site for the company. Until now there were no Unilocal reviews for the company. My son needed a summer job, so he went in for the interview, which lasted 5 minutes. He was told he could be a customer service rep, no cold calling, no hard closing. He would make $ 2000 a month with no quota for sales for him or his team. All he had to do was do 60 demos per month, but don’t worry the callers would get the appointments for him. And for each vacuum sold after his demo, he could get an additional $ 200. I asked my son if he signed an employment agreement. He said yes. I asked to see a copy and he said he did not have one. I explained how draws and recoverable draws work, but he was not interested. I figured out that to make the $ 2000 he had to conduct the 60 appointments, which is 3 per business day. Any less than that and I think he would get only his share of what was sold. He went to the unpaid first day of training and came home excited. He went to the unpaid second day of training and came home with the instruction to practice on 3 houses to perfect his customer service demo. After he did his demo for his grandma, he called his manager as instructed and he put the thumbscrews to my son to try to close his grandma on a vacuum that lists for $ 3100, but he could offer it for $ 2000. You can buy new Kirbys on eBay for $ 850. I started to research online and found this pattern of posts of unhappy people feeling like they were duped into becoming vacuum cleaner salespeople. I read the posts to my son and he went in the next day and quit. He made $ 0 for 3 days work. I cannot say for sure that this is a scam. The manager of OTI did tell them and they signed agreements that said they were required to do 60 appointments to earn the $ 2000. I can say that the entire process is misleading and preys upon people who need work and do not really understand sales compensation systems well. 90% of the hired group quit by the end of the first week. Kirby is a 100-year old company and a quality cleaning product, but OTI tries to hide the fact that they are hiring commission-only door-to-door salespeople and telling people they will get a salary and can set their own hours. That’s not how salaries work. That is how commissions work. I recommend that they lower the guaranteed pay to $ 600 a month for 15 appointments and then pay commissions after they sell 3 vacuums. This would be more realistic and achievable. Why does OTI want to bother with training and churning 90% of their hires each week?
