I’ve been drinking Papachay coffee for 8 yrs, definitely by far the best coffee around, and if you’re ever in San Carlos you gotta stop by and try one of their iced coffees, Starbucks and Peet ’ s doesn’t even compare to Max’s Peruvian grown Papachay!!!

The City Roast is the way to go. It’s a medium roast coffee. We both make coffee with it(with chemex, at 200 °F, with a complete process and beans ground to #24 just at the point where we are making them, and use the beans within a week) and coffee ice cream. Fab coffee. The coffee ice cream gets raves as has the iced coffee. Very very good stuff. Don’t like the french or espresso roasts nearly as much, but I’m just rating the City Roast here. $ 14 a pound. Also like that Papachay has their own organic farms in Peru. Similar to what Blue Bottle and other coffee folks are doing: controlling everything from end to end in order to ensure excellent organic coffee.

Excellent service for basic coffee. I originally purchased a pound of their espresso roast, it turned out they mislabeled their bag and gave me an oily, dark roast on accident. Max made it right by delivering their espresso roast right to my doorstep. However, if you’re a coffee aficionado, I can’t really recommend this as a third-wave roaster. If you just want coffee, though, this place is definitely a great deal.

We’re in SF bay. There are tons of great coffee places, but I don’t think this is one of them. I didn’t buy fresh beans, but I got a fresh cup of coffee. I found this coffee to be alright, a bit above what you’d find in Starbucks. I had their French Roast, which was bitter-forward, bold and a bit smoky, and had a creamy mouthfeel, but left an unpleasant aftertaste. For 3 bucks, I’d say save it and go buy yourself a coffee from Blue Bottle or a Clover brewed coffee or whatever you please. Perhaps I didn’t get a good cup, but hey, for 3 bucks, I’m not really willing to try again;)

My husband and I stumbled upon this coffee at the Mountain View farmers market. Papachay has a booth there selling different kinds of fresh roasted beans. After sampling the Papachay French Roast, we went with a pound of the Papachay Full City Roast which has a smoother, lighter flavor — absolutely delicious. I made a pot yesterday and this morning and it tastes wonderful even with tap water. Not sure what the prices are on the other types of beans but ours was only 10 bucks which is a real bargain IMO. We will definitely be a regular customer!
