Supper Clubs are a dying breed and it’s difficult to find one that rekindles the nostalgia of an era past. The first supper club in the US was opened in the 20’s in Beverly Hills by Milwaukee native Lawrence Frank. Ted & Linda’s Country Squire has strived to keep this tradition alive and has lived up to all expectations in this regard. As a private personal chef, I recently had the opportunity to dine there on a busy Friday Night(Fish Fry Friday, another Wisconsin tradition). I wasn’t quite in the mood for fish or seafood and decided to try the Ribeye. I learned by talking with the Chef, who is also the owner, that all their beef is Black Angus Prime. I ordered my Ribeye medium rare and it came to the table sizzling and perfectly cooked with a warm red center. The rest of my party ordered the Fish Fry, and in addition to the large portions, they were able to get additional pieces. They were happy with their selection. Our server Vickie was very pleasant and came to our table several times to make sure our needs were being met. We decided to try the Grasshopper for our ‘dessert’, and it was not only presented beautifully but was perfectly made and fit right in the season. We noticed younger groups of 30-ish somethings dining there, who told us they have started their own Supper Club Group, and make it a practice to frequent supper clubs in the area. They said Country Squire was their favorite. I live on the East Coast, where everything is expensive, so we were very pleased with our bill. In our area Martinis hail for $ 15. A signature martini at Country Squire is $ 7.50; unbelievable. The next time I am in the area, I definitely will revisit this traditional establishment. I also didn’t know it was voted one of the best Fish Fry’s in the area.

Okay, so the prices are a little steep. Growing up in town, it’s the first fish fry I remember eating and to this day it holds up as the best around. Always top notch. Also, oddly enough since Ted introduced a new menu his burgers are really really good. The chicken wings on the apps portion are huge and breaded which I like. I suggest getting the thick bleu cheese to dunk them in. This place is what old Wisconsin is all about, a true supper club.

We recently visited the Country Squire on a Saturday night. The décor is outdated and the place felt unclean, When the pictures on the wall are crooked and covered in dust it does not bode well for the rest of the place which is out of sight. We were told there would be a 20 minute wait, even though the dining room was nearly empty. Assuming it was to let their kitchen catch up we sat at the bar for a drink. The same hostess who had just taken our name and told us it would be 20 minutes then approached us asking if we were the«Dawn Party». We were not, and reminded her we were the«Meghan party she had just spoken to», so already the service seemed sketchy. We were seated and promptly told the specials were sold out for the night. While disappointed we found other items on the menu to order. Both meals came with salad bar. When we approached said salad bar, it was out of salad but did have some tuna pasta salad and some unappealing pea and cream looking dish. The salad bar was in total disarray. At one point the waitress actually came up and asked us to hand her the empty bows out of the salad bar and handed us newly filled bowls to replace them. I didn’t know we were now part of the wait staff. After salad bar our soups took another 30 minutes to arrive. After that our meals finally came out and while the waitress sorted out what on her serving tray was ours she set other peoples meals on our table to make room to grab ours, this was all just very unappealing. I don’t like the thought of my dinner traveling around the room being set in front of several rounds of strangers until it reached my table. Especially in flu season. I had the broiled cod and it was disgusting. Very dry, I ate about three bites. The best part of my meal was the baked potato. My husband had the rib eye, which was no better than a Pick and Save cut of steak and came with canned potatoes. Neither of us ate much of the meal. The waitress never came back to ask how things were. Several other tables around us were complaining to their waitresses about the slow service which was always blamed on the cook in the kitchen. We asked a bus boy for boxes and had to flag out waitress down to run our credit card eventually as she never returned. We will never come back to this place. Total waste of money.

Went here tonight for dinner because we had a cert that we had not used yet. It was crowded which is something you would expect during the Lenten season and with Wisconsin’s love of fish fry. After we were seated, it took 30 minutes for us to get our salads(which we had to pay and extra $ 4 for). Once the salad plates were removed we waited another 45 minutes to get a fish fry and a shrimp meal(which consisted of 5 small shrimp thrown onto an appetizer plate for $ 15). In all we were seated at our table for almost 2 hours and yet we saw the waitress once and never during that entire time did she ask if we would like refills on our drinks. We actually had to get up and go to the bar ourselves to get drinks! We practically had to beg for water which never got refilled the entire time either. After our meal we gave the waitress our cert only to be told that they would not honor it. We ended up speaking with the owner who said he had stopped doing business with a year ago and that since he was unhappy with the way they did business, he had decided to no longer honor the certs which have no expiration dates. I’m sorry he had an issue with them but to take that out on your customers is just bad business. The least he could have done would have been to offer up some other sort of resolution. What ever happened to the customer is always right? The service was poor, the food was over priced and of average quality and the owner was rude. For those reasons, I will never return to this establishment nor will I ever recommend it to friends.

Went here with a large group last Friday night. Almost everything about this place feels like your standard Wisconsin supper club. Nice bartenders who make very decent old fashioneds/bloody marys, Friday fish fry, dishes described as having«red sauce»(ha) and décor that reminds you of your grandparents rec room… all of these things are pluses, imo. The fish fry was pretty good. Since more than 3 of us at the table got the cod it was served family style. We got a ton of fish. The potato pancakes were also decent. Took a look at the«salad» bar even though it’s not part of the fish fry(what? that’s so un-Wisconsin and a bummer). Also you’re standard supper club variety of iceberg lettuce, a few toppings and some pasta salads, but not the normal soup options. At $ 8 for this to be added, it’s definitely not worth it. They’d make much more profit on the salad bar by upselling it more often if it was priced at a reasonable level that would be tempting for those of us that wouldn’t bat an eyelash at adding $ 3.95 or so to get a few veggies w/the meal. I would definitely go again.

I dislike the idea of writing a review without having actually eaten at a place but I do so as a warning to others and to comment on the overall service level. I purchased a certificate to Ted & Linda’s with the intention of taking a couple of friends out to dinner. We went this past Friday(3÷30÷12) and were told the wait would be about an hour. Being Friday, during Lent in Wisconsin at a popular fish fry joint I was expecting this so, it didn’t concern me. We made our way to the bar and one of our group went to get drinks. He returned almost immediately, having spotted a sign that said« Gift Certificates Are Not Accepted on Fridays». Nowhere on the website or the certificate does it say this. We asked if this could be waived for us, as we were there for steak and not fish fry, but we were rebuffed. «The website is wrong», they said. If you know the website is wrong, wouldn’t you have it corrected? After this the hour wait may as well have been a month, we left and found dinner elsewhere.

Cozy little place in the heart of downtown Muskego(wink). Went recently for the first time to have a dinner there. Ambiance is your typical Supper Club setting, staff was very friendly. Dining room was packed and I was with some regulars. My grandfather has been coming there for about 20+ years and loves it. Our table ordered mainly the fish frys and I ordered baked cod, all of which was very very good. The only cons I have with this restaurant is the the prices. I do not think that charging $ 8 extra for the salad bar is fair or good business considering there really isn’t much on it besides lettuce, basic salad toppings and some pasta salads. When I was there I only saw two people use it, what a waste. Would go again, like I said the food was very good, just will know up front of all the extra charges this time.

This place is owned by a family friend’s family but that doesn’t affect the rating; it’s just the only reason why I’ve ever been here. We usually come on holidays(Mother’s Day, Easter, and Thanksgiving most notably) for the buffets. They have a brunch one in the morning and afternoon and dinner one later on; I’ve only been to the dinner one because I’m always outvoted when I mention brunch. The prices are steep but everything is ALWAYS delicious and you expect quality after coming here enough, especially with what you’re paying. The bartender is always friendly and attentive and the servers do their jobs perfectly, checking in often even if you are only having a buffet.

I decided to look up a new place to go for Friday fish fry. The family has gone to the same two or three places for years and, while I really love both Kagel’s and 5 O’Clock club, we didn’t feel like waiting a long time for a table. So I found Country Squire in a Dennis Getto article from Feb 2007 and convinced the others to give it a chance. We got there and were seated after sitting at the bar for about 15 – 20 minutes; we had just started out second drinks. The three of us were boring with our orders and each got the perch with potato pancakes. The rye bread and coleslaw came out before the meal and both were really good. The rye had some nice salt baked on the crust and the coleslaw was crisp. The plates came out quickly with a nice amount of perch; I think about six or eight pieces. The fish was almost as good as Kagels and the potato pancakes I think were actually better. They had a nice onion flavor in them. I will definitely go back, and recommend that you check them out if you are looking for a new fish fry place to try out.
