We visited Cumberland Campground Fathers Day weekend June 13 — 15, 2014. The campground is surrounded by lake Cumberland and is a small quiet campground. The sites are level even though they are on a hill. The Corp of Engineers have done an amazing job of making the sites nice sized and level. The sites are gravel so tent camping may need to have an air mattress. The only downside to this campground is that the sites are angled so that you will have to back up the incline to back into your site. We camped in site 5, which wasn’t too bad to get into. We have a 32′ trailer and it was snug due to trees being across from the site, which made backing into the site difficult. With that being said, there are plenty of sites that are a lot easier and better for trailers 32′ and bigger. The most enjoyable part of our stay was the camp host, Don Cummins, who was extremely friendly and helpful. Always there to assist if needed and you couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming host. Water was beautiful and the sites were shady and large for Kentucky campgrounds. When we were there, there were only half the sites, out of 30 total, that had campers. Everything in the campground was clean and well taken care of. We plan to return when we can stay a week or more. I recommend this to anyone who is wanting a relaxing time near the Lake Cumberland water.
