Let me start off by saying day spas are never my places of choice for massages, or manicures and pedicures. The prices are consistently high, and often the passion for the work being done is somehow lacking. Without the Groupon I walked in with, my 60 minute massage today at Essense would have been at least $ 95. Wooh, is that steep! I know of a place in town that offers a 90 minute massage for $ 90. Wouldn’t you go for that first? I was surprised, though, by the good quality of my massage today. Though the therapist didn’t focus intently on the really knotty parts of my body, she overall did a nice job of loosening my muscles up and I felt GREAT walking out of Essense. I think what you’re really paying for at Essense is the environment. The building is old, but the interior is beautiful. This spa gives off a very, very classy vibe in its décor and mood lighting. Essense also sells candles in really pretty glasses, as well as body and face creams etc. So, Essense gets a 3.5 star review. Pretty good massage. But I can’t say I’m going to pay the full price when I can keep going elsewhere for less.
