Nonna’s Pizzeria & Wine Bar

Really good pizza. Crust is not too thin or too thick. Sauce and toppings were yummy. Had the arugula salad with goat cheese and almonds. Yum! We had the mussels as well with a thick slice of soggy bread in the broth. Great flavors! Service was good. We sat outside and I brought my dog! Fun, hip vibe!

Sitting in restaurant number two after trying the Nonna pizza and wine bar to no avail. Hostess was nice enough but didn’t set us up to expect greatness. For advertising themselves as a wine bar I guess we expected something a little more upscale. The boxes of wine and beer under the benches didn’t exactly scream chic, but hey, we like trying new places so we stayed and started looking through the menu. The wine menu left quite a bit to be desired… short and hardly what you would expect from a wine bar… not very creative, interesting choices at all. The menu was also far from inspiring, but we each decided on something that would make each of us happy… and then we waited… and waited… and waited… and waited. By the time the fourth or fifth country song started playing (in an Italian «wine bar») we decided to leave our not-​so comfortable plywood bench and head somewhere new… something that we never ever do. We’d love to have reviewed the food here, but sadly never had a server to even order any. We love this style of restaurant when that’s what we’re expecting. Local taco next door for example is awesome and we know what to expect, partially because it isn’t advertising itself as a high-​end tequila bar, just tacos. We love all of the new places in sylvan park that are popping up and are so excited for what’s to come, but hopefully they will place a higher value on service and atmosphere than Nonna pizza and «wine bar» has.

Ok so nothing special here — born & raised in NY and many years making pizza in an assortment of restaurants. This place does a 10″ pizza for $ 13 the appetizer we tried was supposed to be an Italian cheese dip — disappointing.
Every restaurant is higher than retail cost of the wine, even by the bottle… This place is running around 3 the retail price.
So I came, I saw, I tasted and I’ll skip this place next time.

This place is very «collegiate». Fun atmosphere, but for an establishment that advertises itself as a Pizzaria and «wine bar», the wine list is brief and ill conceived. The prices were fair, but the selections (shy of one nice bottle) seemed like the wine buyer likes to hang out in the box wine section of the wine store. The pizza I had, the «Goomba», was a 10″, thin crust sad affair that was obviously made with a pre packaged frozen crust. The cheese was not good quality, and there was a fair amount of grease on the pie. No value at $ 12. I realize that I am coming across as a foodie snob, but in a town with such stiff competition, there are infinitely better options for pizza and wine.

We’ve visited Nonna’s Pizzeria three times, usually for early weeknight Date Nights and once for a late glass of wine & dessert.
The first two times were close to perfect — no wait, friendly & knowledgable service, and delicious, fresh food. The third time was less charmed, with an overcharge on our drinks and yellowing mixed greens, hence the four stars here.
For appetizers, try the spiced nuts, which have an exotic robust flavor that will have you reaching for more. Also, the olive tapenade is a highlight, a generous portion of served with Cosi-​like flat bread and carrot sticks, like all of the dips. Skip the dipping oil, a rather bland oil which deserves a bread with more crumb. The star of the show here of course is the pizza — a crispy thin crust and thoughtfully arranged, generous toppings. Yum!
Try a piadini — an Italian take on the quesadilla with flatbread — my grilled zucchini was hearty and filling.

How can you go wrong with piazza and wine? Simple, low key and yummy. Coming here was a total fluke, only found it driving around and searching Unilocal as we drove. Started with the beer cheese dip with a glass of Prosecco, which totally helped the after work hunger. I hadn’t seen my friend in a while, so we chatted, and the server was attentive but gave us space. BBQ chicken pizza and a bottle of Chianti hit the spot. Asked for extra BBQ sauce to dip my pizza in… different, but very tasty. Perfect for a Monday night after work!

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for about 6 months and last night was my first trip here… so stoked to have this place within waking distance! The vibe is awesome and the service great. I did think it was strange to serve carrot sticks + mediocre bread with the dipping oil rather than excellent bread. And the dipping oil itself was a bit bland. This is usually my fave kind of app so I was disappointed. But the pizza made up for it! I wasn’t a huge fan of the 3 Graces; I think with their crust I’d prefer a pepperoni or margarita. BEST PART: We sprung for dessert and the tiramisu was the most delicious thing ever. It was so freaking good. I’m really looking forward to warm weather and being able to enjoy their patio.

I’m a fan! no secret that my husband loves pizza– his favorite food, and I love me a glass or two of wine, so this place is right up our alley. further, it’s close to home so bonus! tonight we stopped in after work and were pleasantly surprised by their Wednesday night wine specials ($ 5/​glass!). I really love the way they designed the space. it’s stylish and cozy but not overdone – perfect for what they’re doing. the arugula salad was super yummy and perfectly dressed… could use a few more crumbles of goat cheese but let’s be honest, everything could use more cheese in my opinion. we got a two pizzas and had plenty to take home. this is such a lovely neighborhood joint… thinking we have a new Wednesday tradition!

Hostess wasn’t very helpful outside of tell us where not to sit. Not very busy, took a noticeable amount of time to take our order. Food was delicious! 3 Graces was so so so good. Tuscan BBQ Chicken was a little spicy. Great flavor! Wine prices are high. Probably won’t go back – it was one timer.

What does one do on an unusually cold late March evening? Travel down the street to the neighborhood pizzeria. This space is small, but cozy. Perfect for a sleety night.
I started off with a glass of imported Italian, organic red, valpentena corvina. For only $ 7.00, this wine is packed full of flavor, without being too dry or tasting cheap.
The chicken, pesto (made in house with pine nuts), arugula, mozzarella piadini was a hit, and would make my grandmother proud. (A piadini is wood dried bread pressed with fillings; think of it as a cousin to the panini.)
Nonna serves her piadinis with mixed greens and a chianti vinaigrette that is oh so delicious. For $ 8.00, the entire entrée was rather large portion of food.
My table mates opted to order different wood fired pizzas. When they arrived, it appeared both pizzas were overloaded with grease. While this is somewhat expected with wood fired foods in general, it seemed a bit excessive, and they both blotted their pizzas with napkins before taking the first bite.
For dessert, the menu boasted local gelato for $ 5.00. Unfortunately, this chocolate chip treat was definitely NOT the traditional Italian gelato. It had the consistency of «American» ice cream. When we inquired as to where the «gelato» hailed, the server advised he was unaware. He further explained that almost all the foods served are made in house, but the gelato is not one of them.
This said, without mention, he simply removed the dessert from the bill. Impressive.
I definitely will be back for another round of the piadini, and a delicious glass of red wine to accompany it.

Yay for more restaurants in Sylvan Park! This place is a great addition. It is right next door to Café Nonna (the more upscale Italian cuisine restaurant run by the same owners) but is a bit more casual and focuses on pizza. The service is very friendly, the atmosphere is laid back (we brought our 2-​year-​old) and the food is delicious. We had the Tuscan BBQ Chicken Pizza and the Goomba Pizza (with pepperoni and sausage) and though both were good, the Tuscan BBQ was AMAZING. We also had a flatbread with dipping sauce appetizer that was very good. Happy to recomend this place and happy to make many a trip back.
P. S. This is my new thing — but yay for not having a TV in the restaurant! Makes for a more relaxing atmosphere.

The space was nice — could get a little noisy but the music was good. Parking is a problem unless you live in walking distance. Salsa was good but the italian ham/​cheese appetizer not so much — too salty and a bizarre texture. Nice wine list though.

Love the atmosphere. It’s small but refined.
Pizza is very good. A bit pricey but the quality an taste is well worth it.
A must go for people that want to support local good business.

I am a huge proponent of anything I can walk to and stumble home from, so thank you Nonna, for this little treat in Sylvan Park. A pizza and wine bar eh? Yes, yes this is a fantastic idea.
I came here with friends the Wednesday before thanksgiving. I need to state this at the beginning: it’s small in here. So if you want to try it out, I suggest quiet weeknights or dining at off hours. The décor is rustic, warm, and the servers are wonderful. They were running a drink special on sangria which was delicious.
And the food was spectacular. I love pizza, and I love pizza more if it doesn’t make me feel gross after indluging. The pizzas are a great size to either devour yourself or split. They have great toppings with lots of options for meat or veggies lovers. Their salads and appetizers were really delicious (they brought carrots and pita with the dips which I really loved).
I would recommend this place for small parties (maybe 4 – 6 people at most) or date night, or catching up with a friend. Again, its really small, and it can get loud quickly if it becomes packed (which it will be). But the prices are reasonable, and the food is great, so if you want something fun and local I would highly recommend this little annex of neighborhood favorite Café Nonna.

I already loved Sylvan Park. Then Café Nonna decided to open a pizza and wine bar. I love this neighborhood even more than I already did, and I didn’t think that was possible.
The restaurant is right next door to Café Nonna and is about the same size (small), so once it’s popularity grows I’m sure it will be very crowded and hard to get a table at popular hours. The menu is small; appetizers, salads, and pizza. We opted for the oil sampling and cheese dip with bacon, beer, and some Gorgonzola to start. Um wow. The cheese dip was incredible and came with pita bread and carrot sticks for dipping.
For entrees I split the Primavera pizza with my friend. It had veggies, goat cheese, and pesto with a tomato sauce base. Incredible. The pizzas were thin to medium crust and tasted SO good! It was a perfect amount, we had 3 slices each and I didn’t feel that I over ate. The couple with us had the Goomba, their meat option with pepperoni and sausage. There was happiness all around.
They had $ 5 glasses of sangria and $ 15 carafes and it was pretty decent. The carafe was enough for about 3 glasses total, so maybe not the best deal but it seemed like it! The sangria was nothing to write home about, but a decent. Their wine list looked nice too, they offer wines by the glass and the bottle at a variety of prices.
I am definitely going to be a regular here!
