Spalla’s Chicago Italian Beef

This place is a gem! Found it on Unilocal when
Traveling for work, and headed there with my coworker. It is now 1 hour later… I am uncomfortably full, and couldn’t be happier. Get the overloaded and thank me later!

Amazing!!! Italian Beef is one of my favorite things and this place nailed it. The Mac and Cheese was to good not to finish every bite. If you have ever experience the real deal in Chicago and thought there is no way someone outside of Chicago could get it right. Well Spalla’s got it right.

Fast, simple food done definitively right. Hard to get proper Chicago-​style subs around here and Spalla’s delivers. Their hot & spicy pickled veggies are even more of a highlight than their great beef — and that’s not even mentioning their strong lineup of well-​priced frankfurters. Great deli and eclectic drink selection makes this a keeper.

If I could give Spalla’s a 6^th star, I would! After seeing them featured on the Phantom Gourmet show, I had to get right over and try one of their famous Italian Beef sandwiches. I could let my photo of the sandwich speak for itself, or I could tell you that this is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had! (Be sure to get it soaked in their famous au jus sauce). I also got mine with provolone cheese and the hot giardinara mixture. Also, if you have room I highly recommend the homemade mac & cheese. Sooo good! The homemade creamy Italian ice was a nice finishing touch to a great lunch (I had a mixture of the strawberry and chocolate flavors as recommended by the young man behind the counter). Phantom Gourmet knows how to pick them!

This may be our new favorite hot dog spot in Natick. We love Casey’s but Spalla’s has all beef hot dogs with great toppings. You actually feel full after having 2. Next time we are going to get the chicago beef sandwich, it looks amazing and is huge.
They are super nice here, and the food is great and super cheap. They accept credit cards which is always a plus. I will be going back.

Just are here with my wife on the way home and loved everything. The reviews don’t lie– this place rocks. It’s probably the best Deli I’ve been to while living here in Boston over the past 3 years.
Everything is clearly made fresh and they put a lot of thought and effort into their food. Huge respect.

CALLING ALL CHICAGO NATIVES. SPALLA’S NOW SELLS GINO’S EAST PIZZAS!!! I have been a regular at Spalla’s since they opened and I don’t need to reiterate what has already been said hundreds of times — this is a real deal. As good as any Chicago eatery. But now it is even better. Spalla’s is now selling frozen pizzas from Gino’s East. Anyone from Chicago will tell you that Gino’s East is perhaps the best deep dish (not stuffed) pizza in Chicago. Take one home and cook it up. Incredible!

Fantastic food prepared by a passionate friendly staff. Ask for suggestions and take their advice. Truly a diamond.

This place is awesome! I moved to Boston from Chicago two years ago and eating here is like being back home. The Italian beef is one of the best I’ve had and they use authentic ingredients. Kara was SO kind and even gave us a Chicago dog on the house. The Italian ice is delicious as well, they make it fresh. Basically, the food is amazing and the staff is super sweet. So glad we found this local gem!

Went here for the first time this week and got the Italian Beef sandwich with cheese and hot peppers. I got it to go so got the gravy (broth) on the side. At home I started by dipping it into the gravy but found it best to just drown the sandwich with all the gravy and it was amazing. I will be getting this on an on-​going basis. If I am going to eat in the story I will get it either wet (gravy over it) or dipped (they dip the whole sandwich in the gravy). I’ve never had dipped but it sounds fantastic.
I came back a few days later to try the hot dogs. I got a chili cheese dog and it was always great. High quality beef hot dog and extremely tasty chili and cheese.
They have a loyalty card for both sandwiches (buy 12 of either and get 1 free), so a great bonus for an already awesome place.
Can’t believe it took me this long to find and try this place, but I will be a regular going forward without question.

Could not be any happier. Ordered the chili cheese dog, Chicago dog, and the BBQ dog and everything was incredible. Will absolutely continue to come back!

Great authentic (says my. Mom, who grew up there) Chicago food in a small shop that shares space with another euro-​ethnic food shop. We had the hot and wet roast beef. Loved the generous portions and the friendly staff. They have some prepared foods to take home for lunch or dinner. I’ll be back to get som take out for my family dinner. I love that we learned of this gem on Phantom Gourmet. So glad we did!

Let me note this place is a little hard to spot. Their sign actually reads CULINARY DELIGHTS in very obvious letters and Spalla’s is written below that in small inconspicuous letters.
The people are very nice. You order first and pay when you leave. It’s clean and the service is fast. I was craving a Chicago style hotdog and this place delivered. We’ll definitely be coming back.

I’ve said it before, this is a FAV spot in my home town. Love the dinners, love the dogs, love the cute couple running the place. Don’t order the last meal of the day as it may have been sitting out for a minute. But mid day lunch break UNBEATABLE. Also they have a cute little imported grocery area with extremely tasty treats.

I liked the food.
Had the vegetation hot dog and the zucchini soup. Both had lots of flavor. The restaurant it self is very clean and has lots of natural light in the dinning room.
My wife had the beef sandwich and it looked and smelled very good. I took a sip of the beef sauce and it tasted better then the one I have had before.
The staff is welcoming parking is good as they have a small store front lot.
The veggie hot dog it self had no meat substitute or imitation so it was filled with vegetables.
Will be back for sure. Make sure to check in to get a free scoop of Italian ice. I forgot to check in while I was there.

Went to this gem while doing laundry when I saw the offer for the free Italian ice with a check in I couldn’t resist, the hot dog tasted pretty good and the Italian ice, I would definitely come back !

This is now my 3^rd or 4^th time coming here. Each time I like it more and more. Today I was greeted by several folks behind the counter, each of them asked how my day was going. Each time I have been here I have gone with the Italian Beef sandwich, but today I changed up my order.
I got the Chicago Dog. I was very happy with the dog. It had great flavor and great spice. When I got back to my office several of my co-​workers were jealous of my lunch…

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet. Cara and her son make a great team and their Chicago hot dogs absolutely hit the spot, especially on a cold winter day. Cara’s Championship Chili is also excellent. If you’re yearning for a Portillo’s Italian Beef, Spalla’s rendition is the best I’ve had outside Chicago (and even wouldn’t be out of place in the loop). I get it with Provolone and extra hots.
Spalla’s in located inside Culinary Delights, which was confusing at first, but once you go I promise you’ll become a repeat customer. My colleagues go for lunch sometimes and get the Chicken Caprese Sandwich and some of the other deli stuff, which they seem to like a lot.
The deli has a lot of hard to find items such as Kefir, Russian drinks, and homemade bacon. Alex makes excellent entrees and salads and I love to try anything new he has. They just started serving kebabs, but I have yet to try them.
I wholeheartedly recommend this family-​run restaurant. Stop by and you’ll see why.
