Used to be a good restaurant with great beef brisket. Now it is poor dried brisket. Portions became smaller. Not so friendly staff.

I’m revising my review and knocking them down a few stars… not because the food has gone down the crapper(quite the opposite — the pulled pork is STILL awesome) but the service is abysmal. Maybe someone will read these reviews and take some constructive criticisms.(Maybe I’m expecting too much.) It pisses me off when I show up in the middle of the day looking for one particular meat(aka pulled pork) and they’re out. Now I can cut them some slack for being out of stuff when I walk in 15 minutes before closing(which I have done as they’re a 5 minute walk from my apartment) but when you’re consistently out of the same things in the middle of the day it’s infuriating. Someone should notice«Oh hey, we keep running out of XYZ by 3pm — maybe we should just make more of that on a daily basis» It also annoys me that they generally never have pickles. Other Dickey’s I’ve been to give you whole pickles and have them out for the taking by the ice cream. Here you get a few pickle chips… IFYOU’RELUCKY. I realize this is probably an inanely stupid thing to whine about, but seriously people — it’s the little things. Bottom line: Pulled pork and ribs are AWESOME if they have them. Avoid the chicken breast, I found that that sucked. The brisket is okay. I’d skip most of the other meats though. The potato salad and fried okra are my go to sides. Fried okra ftw. And as a warning — the sweet tea is Southern Style potent — although still weak compared to actual Southern sweet tea!(But for Connecticut it’s pretty strong)

Don’t waste your money here. Seriously. You’ll stand at the counter for 10 mins before anyone even comes out from back. They seemed shocked to even have a customer. Dont order the brisket. Even though the menu says trimmed it’ll be riddled with fat and lukewarm. I’ve been here five times with one good experience. Three times they were sold out of what I wanted. I’m never going back.

Well, I’ve read a bunch of things before coming here and was a little concerned. Had a voucher from a site for their $ 20 food for $ 10, so I figured«Sure!». It was good, guys. Seriously. And I’m a BBQ fanatic. Sure, it’s not made at home. it’s made in a smoker and wrapped in plastic until it’s ready to cut(yeah, I know… sad). But, it actually isn’t bad. I had the 2 meat sampler and my date had the 1 meat sampler. I had the pulled pork and the brisket. Now, here’s where things went a little off… I love pulled pork and was shocked that I liked the brisket better. The pulled pork tasted like it was either too overcooked or somehow boiled because it had no flavor at all and just was sort of mushy rather than what you’d expect the pulled pork to taste like. Without sauce, it seemed to lack any flavor at all. not a hint of smoke, spice, anything. That being said, the brisket was the opposite — cooked very well, had some smoke flavor(not a lot) and all in all a good meal. For sides, I had the mashed potato casserole(was decent) and mac and cheese(they were out of cole slaw and hadn’t been open for 30 minutes when we got there). The nice guy that worked there said that it wasn’t prepped the night before so it wasn’t available. Sweet tea(my favorite) was just OK. It was brewed a little too strong for my liking, so regardless of how much sugar was in it(I had to add more), it just seemed to overtake the sweetness and gave me a headache. Despite the reviews of the mac and cheese — it actually was pretty good. Homemade? Oh, my heavens no… but decent.

Arrived on a Saturday at 1:00 and there was only 1 employee. Portion sizes have shrunk, meat at best room temp, salad filled with old lettuce. Very disappointing.

The smoked meats are delicious… If you’re lucky enough to get some. 6 pm and sold out of ribs and brisket? 4th consecutive time I’ve tried to pick her up for dinner from here on my way home and there are none left. One would think that if you are running out of meat by dinner time every night, you are obviously not making enough to sustain your business? I’m done, and it’s a shame because the store is very convenient, but I will take my business to amoke & Bones or Uncle Willie’s where I can actually get BBQ when I am in a mood for it.

We recently ordered catering from Dickey’s for a work party. We wanted to give our guests something different rather than the typical hot dogs and hamburgers that they would expect. We called a week in advance to place the order which was a buffet for 50 adults. I’ve been to Dickey’s in the past and have been satisfied with everything so I recommended them for the catering job. We got our order delivered on time to the location. For the record we ordered smoked chicken, pulled pork, waffle fries, baked potato casserole, Mac and cheese and biscuits for 50 people. The cost was over 600 dollars. What arrived was two small trays of each item. By small tray I mean the half tray size. The fries that they provided us were not waffle fries but regular fries. The trays with pork and fries were not even full. They would likely have almost filled one half tray. We were lucky because only 23 people showed up because there would not have been enough to feed all of our guests. That was based on each guest having 1 serving of each item. The food was mediocre with the exception of the chicken which I thought was pretty good. Our business was disappointed because for 600 dollars we expected better quality and more quantity. In the future I will not use Dickey’s for catering.

Excellant TEXASBBQ !!. Moist with the right amount of smoky flavor. Good choice of sides. Lived in Texas and have had the best. Dickeys is one of them. Well worth the 25 mile drive. Will be back soon.

Nice people here, but the food is really BAD. I was actually surprised how bad it was. The meats aren’t really tasty, the bread is bland, the mac & cheese is gross, and the coleslaw is garbage. In order to cover up the lack of flavor, they pile on the salt, it’s just nasty. It’s actually shocking how salty the food is. I really don’t like to leave poor reviews of places unless it’s a terrible experience, but the food here is really quite terrible. I even have to share an anecdote about the salty food; my friend who loves salty food complained about how over-salted things were here, it was funny to see their reaction and nice of them to admit I was right. Like I mentioned before, everything is overly salty and lacking actual flavor, and I felt bad after eating it, it just kind of sat in my stomach. It’s not a place I would ever return to. If you want BBQ in the Valley area, Smoke & Bones BBQ in Derby isn’t too far away and has much better food. If you want good BBQ and you come here it’s like going to McDonald’s for a good steak. The food is unequivocal garbage at this location.

Been back 3 times, menu has been available 90% of the items available. Service is improving and they seem to be up to speed so I’m adding 2 more stars. I love most of the meats; Chopped Beef, Sliced Beef, Cheddar Sausage! The turkey isn’t great but that’s the only meat I won’t order. The everything mashed potatoes are heaven in a cup! Definitely grab some extra sauce the spicy is worth the visit.

Never expected to find this place in Naugy, but glad we did. really nice and cheap, along with a great selection of BBQ meats and choices of sauces. Great place to snack at or take out.

Originally, this place was a real treat for the area. As time went on things have changed. Meat portions have gotten smaller, less flavorful and with a longer wait. There are other places that for an extra 10 minute drive are far superior in slow cooked meats. The people here are really nice and the free ice cream is a real treat, but for $ 10 for just a sandwich, I want to be full of yummy protein, not frozen sugary cream.

Went twice, decided not to go back. The meat tasted bland and the turkey was a very processed fake loaf of what I would call jello meat.

If you’re ever in the area or feel like taking a nice scenic drive out Rt 8, do yourself a favor and stop by Dicky’s in Naugatuck! In my opinion, this location trumps the Bridgeport location in cleanliness, friendliness and quality of food. Smaller location with fewer tables, the two men working when we were there made the whole experience very welcoming. Trying to eat more on the healthy side these days, I ordered the one meat plate of sliced brisket that came with two sides. I chose the caesar salad with the dressing on the side and the green beans. Surprisingly, the salad was fresh and crisp and the green beans were tasty! We also ordered an order of fried okra, which is a must. If you order the okra, unless you like you veggies overly salty, mention no extra seasoning before they start cooking. All in all the employees took care of us, asking how our food was and mentioning that they have an ice cream machine and the ice cream was free. My only gripe of both locations is that the sliced brisket is more chopped and not sliced. Not that big of a deal, but just making a note. Definitely can’t wait to go back!

First time here. Hubby and I each got a 2-meat plate, so we could sample the menu. I got«fall-off-the-bone» pork ribs and pulled pork with sides of creamy coleslaw and mac & cheese. Hubby got chopped beef brisket and chicken breast with sides of potato salad and mac & cheese(he didn’t get the«sample all the menu» idea ;)). Ribs were good, though I wouldn’t call them«fall-off-the-bone.» Maybe«gnaw-and-pull-the-meat-off-the-bone,’ though that’s certainly not a very catchy name. Pulled pork was tasty but was VERY oily and tasty of pork fat. We make pulled pork at home at least once per month and hubby is a bit of an expert on the matter. The pulled pork tasted like it had been left sitting in the grease of the pork shoulder. Beef brisket was pretty good, though not terribly memorable. Chicken breast was not on the bone as we’d expected, but chopped pieces… and it was DELICIOUS. Juicy, flavorful, I’d go back for this alone. Mac & cheese was good, but missing something. Thick-cut smokehouse bacon pieces, or even small pieces of chopped brisket, would have been fantastic and have given the side the smokey richness it was missing. While coleslaw wasn’t creamy by any definition I know, it was yummy. I jousted with hubby with my fork when he tried to come in for a 2nd bite. Potato salad was gross beyond gross. It could have been packing peanuts in a thick mayo dressing for all the flavor it had. We’re confirmed carbovores and we only ate 1 bite of the potato salad each. The yeast roll accompanying each plate was delicious. We weren’t sure what to do with the single raw onion ring and pickle spear on the plate, so into the trash they went. While we won’t rush back, we both agreed that we wouldn’t mind stopping in again, or picking up take-out when a BBQ craving strikes us. On Sundays, kids eat free with the purchase of an adult meal, which will be nice to keep in mind when my niece stays with us.

This is a very small shop that just opened in Naugatuck. They ran out of ribs before we arrived. The chopped beef and pork were uninspired — bland, no smokiness or seasoning. The barbecue sauce was served on the side and tasted like it came straight off a grocery store shelf. This is the Arby’s of barbecue. The staff was very disorganized– first week of operation I guess. This place has potential — maybe someone in the kitchen will tweak the recipe and find something unique to offer their customers. But it ain’t there yet.
