For a Chinese take out place, this is pretty good comfort food quality Chinese food. We really, really, really liked the boneless spare ribs(thanks, other Unilocalers for suggesting that dish). We also had shrimp fried rice — perfectly fine and we kept having«just one spoonful more» — again and again. We also ordered the spinach tofu — we thought it might be a bit bland but after we were done we realized that there was a little tub of thin brownish sauce that came in the take out package — in retrospect it might have belonged to that dish so shame on us for not putting a bit on to taste it. All in all, the portions were very generous — so much so that we’ll probably get another full meal out of it. Not bad value at all for under $ 10 per dish. We will have no hesitation in going back again in the future.

I love this place! For the price you cannot beat the quality of the chinese food here.

Notice: see new printed menus 1) now closed Monday 2) prices went up 3) pupu platters item quantities decreased for wings and added more lost cost items like chicken fingers… Compare old vs new menus… 4) last order … Chicken fingers now all dough and small piece chicken 5) with new New Garden restaurant to open soon Risking higher prices, less qty, less quality, more days off … Rent just be cheap?

If you like boneless ribs this place does them perfect! Huge flavor and just the right amount of char. Unfortunately, this was the only winner. The scallion pancakes were super doughy not good at all couldn’t even finish one piece. The large beef and ginger had just a few pieces of beef and lacked flavor. The Szechuan tofu didn’t have any spice or flavor. The chicken wings were overcooked and you guest it… lacked flavor. These guys are super friendly and the food is prepared fast and it’s fresh they just need to put some of that love they used in the boneless ribs into the other dishes.

Have not been here in over 10 years so I stopped in and got the best boneless ribs anywhere, better than Chinatown in Canton even!!! I was very surprised and now Dragon Chef is back to being my favorite. Also had delicious egg foo hung and pork chow mein, all superbly delicious!

For a take out place, Dragon Chef is really good, in fact better than many sit down Chinese restaurants. They have been around forever and were very busy the night we picked up our food. Since you can see the kitchen they have nothing to hide. Generous portion size and not expensive.

Overpriced, so-so Chinese. Not overly impressed, but then again Chinese food is always regrettable after.

I would think that almost all their business is take out. The egg rolls were huge and filled with fresh vegetables and pork. I ordered a small shrimp lo mein and was amazed the very large portion of noodles but there were very few shrimp. The lo mein was not very good but it was edible. The wonton soup portion was huge with whole mushrooms. It was not tasty but was edible. If I was very hungry and going for quantity rather than taste or quality then I would come here.

The food is above average but the real reason I stop here when I’m in the area is the price and portions. The fried rice and boneless spareribs are the best in the area. There’s usually a bit of a wait but it’s worth it and the waitstaff couldn’t be nicer.

My company orders food from here for about 15 people every Friday! It’s delicious, super fresh, and always arrives hot, plus they are super fast!

I hadn’t been to Dragon Chef in probably 10 years. I decided to get takeout late night on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious and fresh everything was. The egg rolls were made to order and enormous. Their Chicken lo mein was extremely fresh with homemade noodles and their crab Rangoon stuffed full of «crab» and cream cheese. For take out Chinese this is an excellent option in Needham. They are also open pretty late for the area.

I’m from Needham and this is our go-to chinese place. We always get the General Gao’s Chicken dinner with white rice and brocolli. Its a huge serving for only $ 7 dollars!

Bad service and mediocre food. Unfortunately I’ve had a lot of experience with this place, my parents used to go here before discovering Green Tea in Newton(Much better!). I recently placed an order here hoping things had gotten a little better… But unfortunately they got my order incorrect and insisted it was what I ordered(though 3 other people in the car heard me order correctly). In addition to the bad service my order was awful! I ordered«Sweet and Sour Chicken» what I received was chicken fingers covered in maraschino cherry sauce. My advice overall… Don’t go… check out New Garden(down the street) or Green Tea in Newton, they both have much better food.

Ordered the veggie stir fry with shrimp, but it was tasteless and very pricey. I also didn’t care for the steamed rice. I wouldn’t recommend visiting this place if you want to get some authentic chinese food

Horrible! If you want to waste money and have bad Chinese food you should definitely go here. I ordered a beef chow mein and ended up getting a couple slivers of meat on a plate of sprouts. I dont know if they know what«mein» means in Chinese. It means noodles… I hope you dont waste your money as there are many better places for Chinese food.

Since I grew up in Needham, I was very familiar with Dragon Chef. It was the late night place to go when we were in high school to get take out and hang out somewhere. It was never noted for anything good, and from what I remember was awfully greasy. So I was surprised during a recent visit home when my parents suggested it for takeout. «What? Are you serious?» Oh yes they were. Apparently Dragon Chef is under new ownership since back in the day and recently received some local award for their food! Really?! I opted for the squid in black bean sauce, my husband got the curried shrimp, and the parents got the house fried rice, spring rolls, and beef teriyaki. I have to say I really enjoyed the dish I ordered, as well as my husbands shrimp curry! A small dinner portion was plenty, even had some left over.

Just had their food for the first time tonight, specifically the house style pad thai, Szechwan chicken and spinach tofu. Everything was quite tasty, and the pad thai had a refreshing lightness to it that I liked. It was all well-made and the portions are such that my wife and I will have another meal or two out of the leftovers. Highly recommend for chinese take out.

Dragon Chef is your typical Americanized Chinese food take out place. What sets it apart from other places are the portions and price, the amount of food you get for the price you pay is amazing. One should understand prior to ordering is that you get the quality which you pay for, meaning that the food tastes rather mediocre compared to some other Chinese restaurants in the area(New Garden). Items I did enjoy: Scallion Pancakes Fried Chicken Wings Crab Rangoon General Tso’s Items I did not enjoy: Hot and Sour Soup Chicken Fingers I will definitely be ordering again from Dragon Chef.

I’ve been going to Dragon Chef for well over 20 years, since I was just wee one and it’s always been one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. The food is fresh as can be and yes, it’s fun to watch the chefs prepare it in the open kitchen, but I absolutely LOVE talking to Grace and her adorable kids. She remembers EVERYTHING about the regulars and is just as sweet as can be. Any time I go home to visit the parents, I always make a stop there. I’m not a vegetarian, but I LOVE the mixed vegetables(not the ones in the«Health» section… just the regular order). The colors are brilliant and it’s chock full of broccoli, carrots, peppers… you name it. Crisp and flavorful… they don’t have a sauce but it seems as though they are ever so lightly stir fried. That over some steamed rice and it’s really the perfect meal. My family also loves the ginger/scallion chicken and the black bean chicken– or is it beef; either way it’s delicious. When you’re under the weather, nothing’s better than the Chicken Noodle Soup — a great Asian twist on the standard and sooooo much better. Another fantastic soup — the Spinach Tofu. Also try the Mu Shi — fantastic too! I recommend just the vegetable Mu Shi. The ONLY thing I miss from when I was little(previous owners) are the french rolls that used to come with the order. A New England Tradition that’s sadly dying out…
