We stumbled up this Pie Shop next to our house and it was amazing! The selection of pies is large, and on top of that they make their own ice cream. Many varieties such as Bourbon Ball(which is what I had), and Smurf. A blue and white ice cream sweet ice cream. Gotta love it. As far a pie, I had the Dutch Caramel Apple which they said was the best selling. The pie was fantastic, and not to sweet as I thought it would be. The apples are cubed in the pie and the layer of caramel on top was so good. We also got a slice of cake, as they have many varieties that look great! We had German Chocolate. The employees were very helpful. Good find for us! Or bad find because I’m going to get fat!

Great hours, location, storefront, and service. However, the products can be somewhat lacking. I’ve been to this location 5 or so times and have never been wowed. I used to live in the Highlands in the 90’s and loved the original location but this one doesn’t measure up. It’s doable and some things are good, while others remind me of Kroger baked goods, just bland and lacking. The cookies I don’t like. The ice cream is fine and the pies are hit and miss. Maybe I just haven’t found a favorite but I’ve tried a lot of items. I finished them all each time but never got excited. This time I wanted a piece of pie but the pumpkin and chess ones looked over cooked. Maybe I’m too picky because I have the best Southern mama and grandmothers that have set too high of a standard. Idk. Decent place to stop in for a sweet craving but don’t expect to be wowed unless your not accustomed to real homemade pies and goodies. I might be back but it’ll stem from a craving and being too lazy to make it myself. :-)

You know that feeling kids get when standing in the checkout line and are staring at the wall of candy and sweets? Wanting all of it at the same time… This is the exact same feeling I get every single time I walk through the door! The smell hits you typically in the parking lot and gets your motor running! Once your eyes catch a glimpse at the showcases of delectable deserts your mouth starts to water and brain goes into overdrive. One does not simply pick a selection here or at least not me. I almost have to talk myself into or out of options to pick just one! Cakes, pies, cupcakes, cookies, ice cream, and brownies galore! Cakes and pies have all the classics along side seasonal favorites all freshly made daily. Cookies designed typically into shapes and frosted into seasonal designs or to show events that are happening such as the Kentucky derby! I have found that it is almost impossible for me to buy a treat and not get ice cream to go with it… With over 20 flavors to choose from your tastes buds can either complement a desert or send you into flavor overdrive! What ever you are craving chance are you can find it or satisfy it here! With locations found in a couple spots in Louisville and another in southern Indiana you are never to far away from desert!

The great thing about Pie Kitchen is that they are open late in the evening. So, even though they aren’t the very best bakery in the area I often go there because they are the only one open for an after dinner snack. Their portion sizes are also enormous so one cookie or cupcake is enough to share with 2 – 3 people. The last few times I have gotten ice cream it has left my mouth feeling like I’ve just eaten Crisco and my spoon has been visibly coated with a fatty glaze. I probably won’t order it again unless they change the recipe.

I’m glad that I ordered my cake from pie kitchen. They delivered the product on time and they made an extra effort to make it as I requested. Tiffany blue butter cream with yellow cake. I’m happy with the result. So I don’t understand why sweets by Morgan came up with a million excuses why they could not deliver the request. I can’t wait til I dig in.

I feel as if I was robbed! I ordered a slice of apple pie and got what I can ONLY call a half slice if pie, then I requested it be served«ala mode» … the«scoop» of ice cream was apparently made with the smallest scoop available, and I was charged almost $ 7 for the experience… I will never be back!

First time going to this location, and probably the last. Came here with my boyfriend to try something new and in hopes of getting some ice cream. We waited five minutes before any worker acknowledged us. One worker took quite a while to put together a box for a pie, it was sad how long it took to actually put together this box. Finally, she came up to us and we asked for two samples of the ice cream– one for my boyfriend and one for me. As soon as she handed the last sample to us, she immediately asked the person BEHIND us «how may I help you?» All while she was still waiting on us. Being that I have a past of working at an ice cream shop, I know that it is common sense/common courtesy to not wait on one customer and in the middle of the service to just skip to the person behind them. We waited that long just to be acknowledged and when we finally are noticed, they wait on someone else behind us? This act made me so frustrated, we walked out.

I really like this location. I’ve been to this one several times the past year. They are always really nice and attentive. Ice cream is always great.

There are several of these around the region and each has their own little quirks and details. This one is a little mellow and I think I like it best. There is a living room style sitting area in front of a faux fireplace. Wood plank floors and a dimness that has the lights just right. Many retailers have generic overly harsh office style light which ruins the mood to me. The music is nice and we have not even made it to the food! Sure they have pie and ice cream and yes both are very good. But there is something a little but more special going on. maybe it’s the freshness, maybe it is the variety, the smell of sugar and vanilla and chocolate that hit you as you walk in the door. Immediately you’ll see huge frosted cookies and round 4 – 5 layer cakes, and pies with meringue that is ridiculously huge! To be honest I almost never have the deserts as good as they look. My daughter lives nearby and sometimes we drop in here on the weekends to pick up sandwiches and soup. They custom make sandwiches at the location while the one closer to me in Fern Creek does not. They have great soups that change regularly and sandwiches which they add or remove anything you might want. The food is simple but good in a grandma just made this for me kind of way. This is a place to feel comfortable, to enjoy good conversations with family and friends, to fantasize a bit over which treat to order while you enjoy a great sandwich and perhaps a nice warm bowl of soup. Oh and don’t forget to check out the table of day old pies and other treats, they cost a little less and are just as good as the items in the display case.

«How would you like to have ice cream for dinner?» I asked my niece. I’m an uncle, I can do things like that. «Yes!» So we went to Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen because it is delicious. Seriously, they may not have the breadth of a bakery that specializes in something, but the selection amongst all the cakes, pies, cupcakes, cookies and other baked desserts is delightfully overwhelming and nearly bursting from the glass display cases that welcome you on your right. Just past those are the ice creams. Again, the selection isn’t as vast as an ice cream parlor, but you’re sure to find something that you will enjoy. Seriously, this place has so much sugar in it that I get hyper just walking in the door. The staff is always friendly, even on the Saturday where they were selling scoops for a quarter. You knew that the response was immense, but they kept smiling and being pleasant. Really impressive. The environment is quaint, with a few couches around a fireplace and some tables around the room at which to sit and enjoy the dessert you’ve selected. Very cozy, but not so much that you’re going to hang out all evening. There are also a few tables outside which allow you to enjoy the weather when it isn’t so hot that your going to get messy. It is tough to go wrong if you’re in the area.

On my most recent visit to Kentucky someone recommended this place especially the Caramel Dutch Apple pie. So like any foodie I stopped in and tried some… It was just horribly sweet. The giant layer of carmel frosting was just overwhelming whereas the apple pie itself was not that bad. I felt like I needed a glass of milk. I wasn’t loving this and I initially planned to bring a pie back to Cali but this was just too sweet for my tastebuds. I also got to try the banana cream pie and that too was too sweet too.

Walking into this place and seeing the gorgeous display cases filled to the brim with eye-popping pies and pastries, I thought I was in for a real treat. The staff really made us feel welcome and and were helpful. The totally covered(upside down?) cupcakes were hard as rocks and not tasty. The coconut cream merengue pie was just ok. Both looked beautiful. Might try this place out again, but there are too many great bakeries here in Indy to haul pies up from New Albany on a regular basis.

The Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen is a trendy little chain that is reminiscent of a Coffee shop version of a sweets bakery. The Cupcakes and pies are all high quality and very tasty. I found the banana pudding to be the unsung star of the line-up me and my wife sampled. The ice cream was decent with a fair amount of hand dipped choices. While not truly unique or original it is still better than your basic bakery, coffee shop, or ice cream chain. Bottom Line: I would not hesitate to pick up a pie for desert or stop by for quick waffle cone of mint chocolate chip. The upside down cupcakes are an interesting idea and their basic cupcake is good, but not close to the bliss of stopping by your favorite gourmet cupcake store to pick up 6 custom flavored gems. The banana pudding is great and my suggestion if you decide to stop by this establishment.

I no longer drive this far South :( I can’t tell you how many slices of pie I’ve eaten from here. Let’s just say 20lbs worth! I’ve been to several locations but this one has consistently great service. You can’t go wrong with any of the pies, cookies, cakes, ice cream… The possibilities are endless here!

I drool just thinking about the coconut cream pie here. It is simply the best pie I have ever tasted. It’s great to finally have one in southern Indiana, so when we come home we don’t have to make a trek over to Louisville(I know it’s only 30 min, but it seems like forever when you have a craving). All hale pie!
