Tony’s Deli

Don’t pay attention to the other reviews! This place is featured on the New Canaan Snapchat Geotag for a reason. I had the «New Canaan» breakfast sandwich with a Half and Half Snapple, and it was delicious. The price was good, the sandwich was finely crafted with tasty bread and some delicious potato cones on the sandwich. As a matter of fact, this sandwich was so good, I had to buy another one after I was done with the first one. I can’t say much for their other menu items, but I can only imagine they’re delicious. If you’re in town, get the New Canaan breakfast sandwich before you leave or you’ll regret it.

This place could be more amazing if they raised quality, shorter wait time and better fried options. Curly fries were freezer burn tasting, semi-​stale tasting bread and their cones were not even close to chicken joes, tasted mushy instead of crisp on the outside.

Greasy food, cheap ingredients poor service, overcrowded and disorganized. In a region of the country that general excels at the art of the deli this place is a failure. From their budget lunch meat style ingredients to their poor service there is zero reason to come here with far better delis in the area, one literally across the street. Still here is my review breakdown.
Location: Decent location near the train station and on the edge of downtown. It is a bit hidden away but not bad. Really the only good aspect of the place.

Ambiance: dirty quick-​e-​mart. Nothing else to be said.

Menu/​Food selection: a bit broad and disconnected. I would like to see them reduce the breadth of their menu and get decent at at least one thing.

Quality of food/​ingredients: awful, just awful. Bargain grocery store style lunch meat, greasy (not in the good Phillycheesteak kind of way) very few vegetables, bread seems like it was day old. Got a breakfast burrito to go (actually I planned to eat it there but they were so slow with my order I had to run to work) and when I opened it I had to pour the grease off the outside of the burrito.

Portion size: average, would like to see a selection of smaller sizes.

Service: rude, slow, disorganized.

General comments: it gets busy, I don’t understand why but it is apparently popular with he local high-​school students. The excessive crowds make the disorganized aspect of the service even worse. Additionally there doesn’t seem to be any environmental policy, recycling, reusable stuff, composting, sustainable ingredients or anything like that.

AWFUL service, really slow, rude, found HAIR on my food, never going back here!

Bad execution, slow service and terrible value.
I went here for the first (and likely last) time this past weekend. The place was packed and three guys behind the counter were running around in some type of poorly choreographed routine. Long story short, I ordered a wrap and got the sandwich on a roll. I would have tried to get someone’s attention to correct the sandwich, however it would have taken another 20 minutes to flag down one of the workers. Not only was the sandwiched wrong, but the amount of meat on the sandwich would have made a vegan smile. I seriously had to poke around to find the turkey.

Like the previous reviewer noted, they really charge a lot for food that I don’t believe should be so expensive. I work nearby and would come here for a while but it just got too cramped. With the craziness of cars and crowded space filled with high school kids, it just wasn’t worth it for me. If not for price I would give 3 stars but I don’t like feeling ripped off.

Great place to come for breakfast or lunch. Not to pricey and foods really good. Plus the employees there are very nice and helpful and you really can’t go wrong with the service. Just not much seating on the inside and a few tables are placed outside.

Yo this place is off the chain here. Listen, listen, listen… It’s a Saturday morning and u got a terrible hangover. What do u do? You may arske? You buy a new Canaan, a Mississippi and a joe co. And Blam hangover inverted. It’s ok if u look like shit when u order the food, I never see anyone I know there.

Wouch! My wallet just let out a plaintiff wail, I just robbed it.
The sandwiches are ok, light on substance and heavy on price. Was not pleased with the BEC on a roll, the usual pre cooked bacon must have been sitting around since dawn, difficult to identify as a pork product the bacon.
I do like the Curried Chicken Salad though, which is a goto when I’m short on time and within reach.
The cost will not phase the 1% this town consists of.

As far as a deli goes way overpriced and unless you order one of their predesigned sandwiches they tend to screw up a la carte orders. Plenty of other delis in town that have more parking too.

I don’t get it!
My brother-​in-​law raves about this place. He’s… well a «meat and potato» kinda guy. (I wish… If you know what I mean) Claims best Sausage, egg and cheese… and wings. Well, I’ve tried this place at least 5 times. I can’t take the wait. Last time I ordered and walk out 20 minutes later. I would not have gone back except for the heated debate last night with my brother-​in law and sister. Fine, anyone that passionate about it… I’ll suck it up and go back.
Got my Zumbach coffee across the street and my best attitude… and entered Tony’s…25 minutes later … The sausage, egg and cheese was a 2.5 out of a 5. The bacon, egg and cheese… Well, I threw out ½ of it. Bacon was not tasty and the egg only covered ¾th of the roll. Not good at all.
Ok… fine. The wings were very good. Crispy! Don’t forget to ask for hot sauce and blue cheese dressing if you like that.

Uncle Deli in Darien, Veggie Barn, New Canaan, Forest Street Deli, New Canaan.
Best use to be Lou’s in New Canaan but now The New Canaan Diner (NG) and I recently tried the Country Cow in Fairfield. (Ok???)

Nice new place in town. Not many seats. Will give better review in a month or so. I had the chicken soup! Owners VERY nice.
