Avellino’s Apizza

Absolutely terrible and ride service. The owner is a prejudice gentleman who spoke unreasonably to me. I believe this was a racial matter and I’m never quick to pull that card. This will be my last time ordering from them.

Just ordered a pizza, wasn’t cut like I asked, an it was doughy an the cheese was nasty and chewy. Want order from them again. Delivery man didn’t even have change, how you at work an can’t complete the job of making the customers happy.

The first time I ordered pizza from Avelinos I had it delivered and it was delicious and I received it quickly. The second time I ordered pizza from Avelinos, the driver got lost and the pizza itself had a weird watery and oily liquid. It was very weird. I never had a pizza like that before. But the taste was fine.

I love the food, the chicken Parmesan pizza even the beef pepperoni calzone is great I highly recommend the food. I also highly recommend pick up, the BMW delivery guy awful attitude but again the food is great.

This is our go-​to for pizza night. The garden salad is generous and fresh, and the pizza is good. Not my favorite pizza in New Haven, but very enjoyable when you consider the added convenience of friendly service, fast delivery, and a great price.

I ordered some food for delivery. It was simply awful. I ordered a BLT and asked for extra Bacon and that the BLT be well done. First, they Charge $ 3.00 for the extra bacon. Second, it was nearly raw. Lastly, I ordered antipasto salad, it hardly had any meat and was bland.
I would not order from here again. A total bust!

Horrendous customer service, which is too bad, as the food seems basically good. I was looking for pizza delivery in my area and Avellino’s came up as a local option that I hadn’t tried before. So I checked out their reviews here on Unilocal.Descriptions of homemade sauce sold me as did the review of their wings. I went to their website and placed my order for both a pizza and wings. In the notes, I left a detailed description of where my house is: off of a major arterial street here in New Haven on their very professional website order form. Within 25 minutes a driver called confused about where I was. I said I had left directions, but then just guided him to the house on the phone. He arrived, I paid with a nice tip and he left. Upon taking a bite of the pizza I discovered that the pizza was not the pizza I had ordered. It was sausage and bacon (which I don’t love on pizza) instead of sausage and pepperoni. I really wanted pepperoni, so I decided to call the driver back. He called his manager and then called me back and said I had to call the manager myself. I called and the person I spoke with did not identify himself as the manager. I proceeded to explain the mix up on the order. I said I would prefer to get the pizza I ordered, and could he please send one over. He said fine, but that he wanted the first pizza back. I said that’s fine… though I have taken a bite out of it.
He went ballistic, asking me repeatedly why I took a bite out of it. I replied I opened it in my dimly lit TV room, saw the sausage and assumed pepperoni was in there somewhere. Then it tasted funky and not at all spicy, and I realized it was the wrong pizza. He barely heard my explanation, repeating over and over… why did you take the bite… why did you take the bite… then abruptly put me on hold for a LONG time. I hung up and called back and asked to speak to the manager… again a long hold (it’s Friday night, I understand you’re busy, but I also understand you want me to hang up and eat your mistake and go away). Finally, he came on the line and I said, «You’re the manager?» and he said he was. Then he said what he was going to do was send the driver back here with my money and that I was to never call his establishment again. I said, but I really want a pizza. He replied that he would not send me a pizza and I was never to call there again. So I would urge all of you to NEVER CALL THERE AGAIN as he wished. Then he wouldn’t have such a stressful Friday night. I am amazed that he’s busy, but I guess that’s why he can afford to have such crappy customer service
The friendly driver came back with the money. Then he asked for the pizza back… I refused, long story short after a discussion with the driver about his place of employment. He said, keep the pizza. He gave me the money and left without the pizza. Now the manager has called to say he’s going to call the cops on me and something about how he knows exactly where I live and has all my information, which I found a little creepy and a little bit threatening. I have eaten three slices of the pizza, which is pizza. I don’t like bacon on my pizza but I’m not going to die. If you like bacon on your pizza and bad customer service… order away. I’m curious to find out if the cops do show up at my house and what the upshot of this will all be.
I’ve worked in customer service. When you make a mistake, you admit you made a mistake and you make it up to the customer. I should not have had to pay for the wrong pizza, and I got my money back. I also should not have been left without dinner… and he cannot resell a pizza which has already been delivered and opened, let alone if I had taken a bite or not… or can he? Cause that’s what this seems like to me… that he’s mostly upset because the pizza that was wrongly delivered could have been re-​purposed, either by waiting for someone else to order that same pizza (not likely)…or perhaps to just hopefully deliver that wrong pizza to yet another customer in the hopes that they wouldn’t be as stubborn as I am??? Or to see in some childish way for himself that I am not lying about this pizza??? He claimed that we had had issues a year ago with them, and I have no knowledge of this. Perhaps my other half ordered pizza from them and had problems, or I have repressed something that will come out later in therapy.
The wings, for what it’s worth, were excellent. Too bad… if he’d impressed me, he could have become our new food delivery source… it’s a large menu. Instead, he’s wasted SO much of my evening and made an enemy where he could have made two hungry, regular customers who will gladly share with their Yale community how they feel about this restaurant.

Not terrible, but I’m not sure I would order from them again. We ordered a large greek salad with a large BBQ chicken pizza and both were just OK. The greek salad was decent; I appreciated that they included stuffed grape leaves, which a lot of places don’t, and had plenty of feta, tomatoes, and cucumbers.
The pizza was not very good. Maybe their other pizza varieties would be better, but this was not. The crust was thick and chewy, the BBQ sauce was WAY too sweet and it tasted like the chicken had already been marinated in some other flavor before the BBQ sauce went on, which was weird — if the chicken is already flavored, why not leave it alone?
The only reasons I’m giving this place 3 stars instead of 2 are: delivery was fast, and I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe BBQ chicken pizza is not their specialty and perhaps other toppings would be better (although, if you can’t make something well, why make it at all?).

Probably my favorite pizza in New Haven. It’s a little out of the way but well worth it! They also have this amazing grilled chicken salad that has THE BEST seasoning on the chicken.
The delivery is never late and they always come in a timely manner. The friendly guy at the counter doesn’t hurt either. Don’t let its location scare you away, I would definitely recommend this place for delivery or for a quick visit to meet the nice guy behind the counter.

Honey BBQ wings to die for look at the menu and your mouth will water; expensive though. These wings are superb and full of flavor. A must try. The salads are great too, when you feel like being healthy.
PIZZA!!! You wont be dissapointed with the pizza here. Its delicious! I’ve been going here for years, I ve tried the others, but their homemade sauce puts them far above every other pizza
Delivery has always come in under 45 minutes, no problems.
The Good: taste, quality, freshness, attentiveness, clean, and variety… I can keep going but you get the point– these guys know what they are doing.
