Sorry but the place smells of moldy carpet. The food was just passable. The Tom gai Ka soup was good but the Pad Thai had too much sauce and the shrimp were not fresh. I have a bit of a stomach ache and I just left

I think I was overly enthusiastic in my previous review. While I still order from this place on the reg, they disappoint me probably once in every 3 or 4 orders. The taste is not consistent, and sometimes the delivery time is way too long, especially considering I only live a few blocks away. Why do I continue to order from them? Because the only thai places in New Haven that are better(Jeera, Rice Pot) don’t deliver. Another thing, I think they closed for the summer but there is no sign or indication of this anywhere, other than the fact that they simply haven’t been open for several weeks. I will say that the owner is SUPER nice. Sometimes he is the one who delivers the food at the end of the night, and he always greets me by name, which is nice and only slightly shameful.

There are few Thai places that deliver in New Haven but save yourself the time and stress and do not order from this one. After receiving the wrong order TWICE i had to argue with the delivery man that the container of steamed vegetables i had gotten was not pad thai. It was absolutely absurd. I then gave up and just ate the food i was given and it was awful. The mushrooms were rubbery and the white rice was goop!

Food: Excellent food. Out of the three Thai places on Chapel Street, this is the only authentic one. Customizable spice level, chicken is real, and it is very tasty. Service: 9 out of 10 times the service is incredible. Smiles and greetings, and they will get to know you if you are a regular. Environment: I like the layout of this place. Outdoor seating, bar seating, resturaunt stlye seating, and a private patio in the back for get togethers if needed. Cost: 7⁄10. A little pricy, but you get what you pay for. I’d rather eat @ TPA and pay the $ 1 or $ 2 extra per dish, just based on the quality of food.

Came here around 1:30 on a Wednesday for lunch. They charged us for dinner portions. We realized it after we paid the bill. After we looked at the menu and double checked, we asked the manager why we were charged for the dinner portions. He replied that we were served the dinner portions, which was a lie. We’ve eaten here for dinner many times and the portions were much bigger AND, more importantly, we did not order dinner(no one asked us either). I don’t tolerate lies or rip offs, so this is a zero star review. I will never come back. There’s plenty of good Thai food in New Haven, so avoid this place.

This is a Thai-type restaurant located on a busy block in New Haven that features ATLEAST four other restaurants in a similar style. I was initially apprehensive about the quality of the food here with so much fantastic competition(insert shameless York Street Noodle House Plug) nearby. The restaurant is located in a building that once housed an Irish pub, and basically looked the exact same as it did back then, except with dusty seat covers on the VFW hall style chairs, paper table cloths and some strange Asian-style art hung on the darkly paneled walls. Not exactly and ideal dining environment for sure. Although I was still willing to give it a shot, I can tell you that sometimes you can judge a book by its cover! The restaurant is laid out very strangely, and we were sat on the second floor by ourselves right in front of a dirty plexiglass window that overlooks the bar area. Our waiter appeared to be the owner and provided marginal service at best. They had a somewhat decent selection of beer(usual Asian beers like Singha, Sapporo, etc…) but didn’t appear to have anything on tap. The food was certainly not terrible, but was very bland and uninspired and they did not return to ask us how it was once it was served to us, because I would have definitely asked for some chili sauce to liven it up. We visited this establishment because we had a certificate, but I would have been very displeased if I had paid full price for what I received. The restaurant also loses points because it was very dusty and dirty, had sticky floors and featured a large pile of raw beef sitting out on a cutting board that I saw as I walked past the stray cat at the back door to the very dirty bathroom. This is the kind of restaurant that makes you scared you’ve contracted something terrible every time your stomach bubbles for the rest of the night! Overall, the food and service were average to below average and the restaurant really needs a thorough cleaning. If this place was located in the suburbs, it would have a decent shot, but with so much competition on the same block, I can assure you that Thai Pan is not long for this world

The staff was friendly and the location is convenient. The ambiance was kind of confusing, looked like an Irish Pub turned Thai with some random art. We went there because of a coupon. The food was very… just there. It wasn’t awful but it certainly wasn’t good. If it wasn’t for the coupon we had for $ 25 off I would have been super pissed to have had to pay the full bill. The fact my husband spotted a giant mountain of ground beef hanging out on the counter for who knows how long was a little frightening. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth — literally as well as physically, even over 2 hours later.

I was surprised to find three Thai restaurants in the same 100-foot or so radius, but after turning into the wrong one this past Saturday night, my boyfriend directed me to Thai Pan. I wasn’t expecting much when we walked in, but it wasn’t a terrible experience — we left very full and with leftovers, and it was a pretty good deal because we had a certificate. My first impression walking in was that the inside of this restaurant reminded me of my great-aunt and uncle’s old house and a lot of other older family members’ houses I visited as a kid. Old building, rickety stairs, faded carpets, a lot of faded everything, and lots of Thai decorations. I was a little concerned when we sat at a table with a dirty tablecloth, but someone came over pretty quickly with a clean sheet of paper to top it off. We started with the tiger rolls — shrimp and some kind of dumpling filling wrapped in spring roll sheets. They were a little greasy, but pretty tasty. We ordered some Thai iced coffees, which we realized our waitress forgot about because we were finishing up our appetizer and still hadn’t gotten them. She apologized and brought them out pretty quickly. I ordered the basil duck, and my boyfriend got the drunken noodles. The drunken noodles were definitely on the mediocre side of drunken noodles, which I often use to compare Thai places. Overdone, not very much flavor. There was a lot of chicken, but not many vegetables. My basil duck was good — a good amount of spiciness and a lot of duck — but I did notice toward the end that it was drenched in fish sauce, and that fish sauce taste was a little too much for me by the time I finished. Prices were very reasonable — our total ended up being $ 31 for our two drinks, appetizer, and two entrees. We needed to spend $ 35 to use our $ 25 gift certificate, so we got some fried green tea ice cream. It came out on fire, and was totally delicious. I don’t remember where I had fried ice cream last, but I remember not liking it very much. I really liked this fried ice cream because the shell had a good amount of sweetness. My only complaint would be that the part of the shell that was on fire tasted burnt, so I ate around it. I was leaning more toward two stars for this review, but I had to bump it up because of the ice cream. It’s really more like 2.5 stars, but I rounded up.

DONOTFREQUENTTHISRESTAURANT. I ordered from this restaurant through multiple times throughout the fall without any problems. The food was decent for the price, so I initially had no complaints. However, my most recent experience with them(a few months ago) has left me scarred, and I will not be ordering from this restaurant ever again. I was enjoying my Tom Yum soup when I noticed something black floating around in my spoon as I raised it to my lips. I realized with horror that it was a partially dismembered cockroach. When I called the restaurant to complain and ask for a refund, the manager argued that it was commonplace to have bugs in the kitchen, and that it wasn’t that big of a deal. When I continued to express my displeasure, he switched tactics and demanded that I return their Tom Yum soup with the bug inside as PROOF that I wasn’t lying in order to weasel out of paying. In addition, the manager only agreed to compensate me for the value of the soup($ 2.95), whereas any other establishment would have apologize profusely and refunded the entire amount of the meal(which was only $ 12 or so). I had to wait another 30 minutes for the delivery man to return, and I traded him my bug-containing soup for $ 2.95 in cash. Needless to say, I didn’t have the stomach to finish the rest of my meal. GIven the terrible level of customer service and atrocious hygiene, stay far, far away from this restaurant! See my attached picture for the size of the offending critter.

Well, it’s going back to four stars. The duck was excellent… again. The problem this time was the service was so/so and we had some bones in the duck, which really irked my dining partner. It’s one of the few menu items at any restaurant that I actually crave on a regular basis.

Just got lunch here through . My soup was amazing, my co-worker loved her pad see ew. We’ll absolutely order from here again. I’ve eaten at their restaurant a few times, and it’s always quite good, far better than Bangkok Gardens.

Sitting right across from Thai taste, it’s an odd contrast considering how empty this place is. The atmosphere is very quiet and deceptively private – as in, you can assume the silence means privacy when actually the few diners who sit in can probably hear every word you’re saying. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful. They are attentive but not overbearing. However, thanks to how empty it usually is, you’ll probably have to wait a while before someone comes to the front to greet you. As for the food, it’s comparable to Thai taste, though perhaps not as wide of a selection. Try the fried rices, they’re justly flavored and not overly greasy or wet at all. It’s a nice place if you prefer quieter dining and pretty good Thai food.

I regularly have Thai iced tea, fried rice and drunken noodles here. There can be a bit of a language barrier sometimes. A couple of times after eating here I’ve felt a bit weird. Best to double-check on all of your ingredients if you’re a celiac. Very calming atmosphere! Sitting in this place always makes me feel serene and peaceful. Very nice people, also.

I’ve ordered from here pretty consistently since my first time last December. I haven’t ordered the spring rolls again, as they really weren’t great, but I have ordered the chicken satay many times. I love the peanut sauce and cucumber relish they come with, and the chicken is tender and flavorful. Some satay can get dry, but this chicken is really good. I usually order the drunken noodles with chicken, as they’re the best I’ve found available for delivery in New Haven.(Bangkok Garden’s drunken noodles are better, but that place isn’t on the site.) Anyway, this time I thought I’d change it up and get the spicy basil chicken, which was a stir fry of chicken, onions, tomatoes, basil, and peppers. It was good, but the sauce was really, really watery. The chicken and veggies were basically in a pool of watery sauce. It tasted ok, but I don’t think I’d order it again. Maybe I’ve found the one decent thing on the menu at this place, in the drunken noodles. I do think this place has a good selection, and the delivery is fast. And they deliver Thai iced tea, so there’s that.

Everything was sweet. Gross. The tom yum gung was so sweet(yes, downright sugary!) that neither of us two starving souls was willing to swallow more than two spoonfuls. Even the hot pepper goop(which I had hoped to use to salvage my disgusting meal — sweet noodles) was sweet. The décor was ok, I guess, and the staff nice enough, but the food was foul. Once was enough — I’m never going back.

I have a bit of love for this place. Delivery is quick, the noodle dishes are flavorful(especially the spicy noodles), and we’re always satisfied. They have yummy sticky rice with mango, and their yellow curry is decent.

went for dinner — one star lost due to odd seating/hostess maneuver of plopping first arrivals in the front area by the bar, maybe to make the place look crowded as folks walk in? It wasn’t well-heated and so I snooped a bit, found out they have a lovely, cosy room warmly heated on this extra-cold March day, and wife and I enjoyed the vibe in the room very much, if a bit elbow-to-elbow w/strangers. Beyond that service was warm and unintrusive. Wife’s fish tidbits appetizer was tasty w/good sauce but a bit ‘gummy/rubbery’… my Tom Yum Gai chicken/coconut soup lacked some of the spice/lime edge it sometimes has but it was very pleasantly sweet, warm and comfort-foody. Massaman beef and Duck pad thai both very pleasant(potatoes a bit undercooked in massaman) though the duck seemed to be just dropped into the fryer, like most cheap places do, in place of real slow or pan roasting. pleasant old-school atmosphere, I’d drop by again for sure but curious to check other Thai in this, the neighborhood I originally grew up in when too young to remember!

I haven’t been for dinner, so this review is for the lunch buffet only. To be honest, I don’t even bother ordering off the regular menu, at $ 6.95 for a good selection and all that I want why try anything else? The buffet consistently offers good quality Thai food, all the standards are here with occassional different offering. The veggie pad thai is always tasty. It has a good mix of veggies, the noodles are never over-cooked or over-sauced. It’s a little light on the peanuts, but that’s a small comment. The veggie drunken noodles are also very good. Mild to medium chili pepper levels, good flavor and authentic Thai basil in this dish. Noodles have a good chew to them, I’ve never had them mushy. Fried chicken wings are always a safe bet. These are hot, crispy and just a touch spicy. Yummy! Fried Thai rice is very standard, but the rice is always nicely cooked, not over cooked. Same goes for the plain jasmine rice. They also usually have sauteed tofu, chicken and steamed veggies and stewed eggplant. Regular salad is always available. Dessert is usually sweet coconut soup with banana and tapioca pearls. There’s also orange slices. Occassionally different entrée items are rotated through the buffet, so I won’t go through those as you’ll see what’s on offer when you get there. The Thai tea is good, but I usually stick with water or a soda. I’m not sure if things are different at night, but at lunch the owners are usually around and if you go often enough they recognize you. I usually get a «Hello, how’ve you been.» if it’s been a few weeks since I’ve dropped in. To me, that counts. Service is usually good, my drinks are always kept topped off but the waitstaff doesn’t breathe down your throat either. This is one of several solid Thai restaurant on Chapel Street, but for some reason I swing in here more than the others.

This restaurant tries to market itself as an «Asian Fusion» place, but it just isn’t. It’s a Thai restaurant, and rather generic one at that, although I’d also say that it’s decent. The only thing that makes it stand out from the other Thai restaurants in town is the outdoor seating. The menu is very typical of a Thai restaurant… this restaurant offers nothing that you can’t get at 2 or 3 other places in town. The quality is average, perfectly passable, but not enough to justify the $ 11 or so per entrée. Service was decent. It’s worth eating here solely for the outdoor seating; this is the only Asian restaurant in town with such seating, and it’s quite nice. However, there are only a few tables and on a busy night they fill up very quickly. Bottom line? Not a good value for your money. The pricing is about the same as at Thai Taste, and the food is similar but a little less refined and subtle. In my opinion, there is little reason to go to this restaurant when there are three very cheap noodle places a short walk away, and a good Thai place across the street.
