I waited 2 hours and the food wasn’t worth waiting that long! I felt like I was forgotten about while waiting. I understand that the wait was going to be long but when people that came in after me got their food and left I don’t understand that! And when I asked about my order I was told to chill out … Not okay.

Stopped in for lunch based on the good reviews. I was not disappointed. My coffee cup was never empty. The portions were huge(could do with a little less) the meal was not over salted! I could taste each ingredient in the dish. The music was a little loud to chat easily, but the funky atmosphere was good. The wait staff was attentive and the food served in a timely manner. I would eat here again.

No food could be worth the disorganized service. They even think it is funny, which it is not. Our food came out at all different times, was not exactly what we ordered, either. But the worst problem was that it too FIFTY minutes to get the first plate of food. I will never return.

The food was pretty good and the staff was incredibly friendly. the one drawback to our experience was the very slow service. On a Sunday afternoon the restaurant was 90% full, usually a good sign that great food is being served, however I think the fullness was a byproduct of the slow service. It took almost an hour for our order to come up after we placed it(salad and sandwich). I’d be willing to give it another shot because it was a fun time, however if you don’t have all day to get brunch, consider another option.

I was really looking forward to checking this place out as I had heard good things. I was super disappointed. The service was terrible, they gave preferred treatment to the regulars. It took 45 min before they took our orders and then waited another 45 min to get the food. I was with two other people and only 2 meals came out at about the same time. The 3rd meal they forgot about and when it finally showed up it was cold. Every time we brought up if our food was coming there was an excuse As to why it hadn’t started yet, such as «our grill is too small.» And the food was just mediocre. Will not be going back.

While in this area for a couple weeks came upon this local favorite. I found them on Unilocal under pet friendly dining. They were very accommodating to our fur babies and would’ve made scrambled eggs for them if it weren’t for their food allergies. The homemade corned beef hash is excellent!!! Had it every time we were there. It has the perfect amount of seasoning and not at all salty. I also recommend the jelly donut pancake for the occasional sweet tooth. It is delicious! Will miss the owners«bark» as our fur babies thought there were doggies inside! Great place for breakfast especially when with your doggies! Great wait staff as well! Will definitely return when in the area!

How much do I just love this place? First of all the staff is so kind, welcoming and understanding. I called before arriving and asked if they were dog friendly. They said of course and welcomed me and my two puppies to sit at a picnic table. The waiter even gave my pups water. The menu was impressive and the portions were huge. I order eggs and corned beef hash. I also ordered a side of pancakes. The pancakes were amazing. I couldn’t finish all my food. I had to take it to go. I actually left in a hurry because my dog kept barking and I was embarrassed. However the staff never made me feel unwanted. They were so kind and treated me and my family with compassion. I am forever grateful for such a dining experience here. Great good, great staff and the music was great too. I will be coming back.

As much as I generally dislike breakfast, I try and sleuth out the good places around the area for my husband who is a big breakfast fan. It’s close to our house and has a great outdoor patio for brunch outside in the sun under the trees, so we gave it a shot. Inside is a large semicircular bar enclosing the cooking space. Around that are bar stool seating and the perimeter of the room has booths for couples and families. We were greeted heartily by the owner and sat immediately. I was somewhat shocked to see a large shaggy dog inside the restaurant among the diners, because I’m pretty sure that’s against the sanitary code. After giving the menu a twice over, we were ready to order, but it took the waitress almost 20 minutes to take our orders. Once done, we waited another almost 20 minutes for coffee and tea. It took us a whopping hour to finally get our food at that point, leaving us hungry, cranky, and fed up(instead of just fed). The food, although edible, wasn’t great. Mixed with the smoke lingering in the top two feet of air in the restaurant(which is what I’m chalking up the massive wait to), we were less than happy about our experience here. After being done for another 20 minutes, we finally walked our bill to the front to pay which resulted in the owner saying«oh you didn’t have to bring it up, we could gotten it from ya!» Instead of telling her about the now almost two full hours we had spent there, we smiled and just left, not wanting to waste another minute or 20 waiting for more. If this wait was a result of an amazing product that requires intense prep time and finesse, that would be one thing. The product is mediocre, and the wait is atrocious; food, ambiance, service, and mostly time spent, make this egg one to whom we don’t want to give another chance.

When I met the boyfriend, he was in love with this place and talked about it all the time. To me, it was a sign that it was a great place — seeing as it takes a lot for him to wake up for breakfast. So when I went for the first time, I obviously had high expectations, and Doreen definitely met them! I had the stuffed croissant(without smoked salmon), and it was amazing — delicious, creamy, and I felt like I had to roll myself out of there afterwards. Our friend was with us and he got sweet potato pancakes(special of the day), and we each tried them and they were to die for! Thanks to Doreen, the boyfriend is now obsessed with gouda cheese in his eggs — and I can’t say I blame him because each of his orders with that have been creamy and awesome. Also, Doreen’s creation of the corned beef hash is out of this world! Fast forward, came today and decided to try the stuffed croissant with smoked salmon, and OMG. YES. The food, as always, is amazing, and coming from a place where it’s not unusual to have fancy shmancy breakfast/brunch, The Yolk Café pulls through, without all the pretentious you-know-what. Doreen makes grade A amazing food, and her specials are always fun to try. On top of that, Doreen is incredibly personable, hilarious to boot(note her gag cigarette and fake ketchup squirt bottle thing!) and her and all her staff have always been super friendly. We always look forward to our chats with them. As for people complaining about how long it takes for them to get their food… the boyfriend and I love the food and have never even noticed the wait time. Maybe because to us, it seems silly to rush something that will be amazing, but we really don’t know what the complaints are about, and we really just don’t care for them. If you notice wait time, then maybe you need better company. Also, if you have a crummy sense of humor, do not go here! Really, you’re probably better off going to a McDonald’s drive thru for your breakfast sandwich!

My hubby and I came here for brunch on his break. It was nice enough, so we had the pleasure of sitting outdoor. Which I really enjoyed. While waiting we got a little treat. A slice of bacon! It was the best slice of bacon I’ve had. Nice and thick! We decided to order egg benedicts and french toast with strawberries. They were both a very good selection. First the eggs benedict was a good portion. It was cooked perfectly and my husband love the hollandaise sauce! We also very much enjoyed the french toast. Perfect dipped and made. Everything here is hand made and the owner is so friendly. They are also dog friendly, since there is benches outside.

I had such a great time at the Yolk Café. The food is excellent and abundant. The owner is awesome as well. She has such a great sense of humor. I love the variety of the coffee mugs. Beware of flying marshmallows lol. Best breakfast I’ve had since arriving to Connecticut. This place is my new official breakfast spot.

Great place to eat breakfast. I had the eggs Benedict, my daughter had the corn beef hash, my son the portobello mushroom sandwich and my husband the Reuben. Delish! We will definitely be back when traveling to or through Connecticut! Not a fancy place but a nice and cozy place with of good food to eat !

Every year a stop at the Broken Yolk is as much a requirement of our stay in CT as a visit to see the grandparents. We look forward to talking to Doreen, the talented chef, and sampling her home style specialties that never disappoint us. The kids always get her chocolate chip pancakes. My husband recently sampled the salmon and egg stuff croissant and was very pleased. I had to order the cranberry walnut toast, as it cannot be found anywhere else. Another unique original that I love is Doreen’s homemade veggie burger. It’s unlike any other and created in house with just the right blend of spice and bean. Like everything else, it’s a big portion so mine was enough for two meals for me.
