Jackson Brewery used to be a cool place to go to back in the day. Now it’s a tourist lame trap that sells bottom of the barrel food in its food court. I really feel like it’s a desperate place for tourists because of what it used to be. Beyond disappointed.

If you’re expecting a brewery here, you won’t be happy. The brewery closed several years ago, but the bar/restaurant was a nice little place. Offered two floors, one with a scenic view of the Mississippi. We found the food very good, but we’re not so much foodies… just visiting and enjoying the ambiance. Deanna was very attentive and friendly. Second floor was handicapped accessible with an elevator. This is a spot to check out the other local breweries. Live music while we were there. We plan on going back before the week is out.

Please, please, please find somewhere else to eat New Orleans. We had signed up for a Ghost Tour that met at Jax Brewery — we figured why not just grab dinner there so we don’t have to rush — worst decision ever. Our server didn’t know the menu, asked us to point out where things were that we had ordered as he seemed genuinely perplexed with our orders. We confirmed our orders a number of time and disappeared. We started going to the bar to get drinks — which were weak and overpriced. An hour later when our food arrived it had all clearly been sitting under hot lamps for quite some time and we were missing food from our order. Again our server was gone. The table next to us had a far worse experience as after all the food was dropped off the server informed one diner that they were out of their meal. The manager did end up coming over and apologizing and seemed very embarrassed and did comp our meals. But this is definitely somewhere I cannot recommend.

I was really excited when the street car had a stop by here because I love going to breweries. But this was not what I thought at all. We walked in and the place was really quiet, with a couple of people. We sat at the bar, and started to look over the menu, but couldn’t find any of their beers on the list. And when we looked at the taps, they all were all beers from different breweries. When I asked the bartender what Jackson Brewery beers were on tap, he said that the Brewery stopped making beers years ago and it no longer exists, only the building is left for other businesses. Instead, they serve local craft beers from all around Louisiana. Having never had beer from Louisiana I did a flight, which came with four samples. I tried the three IPAs that were available and a coffee porter. Unfortunately, all of the IPAs were really weak and not that hoppy, which was disappointing since IPA is my favorite kind of beer. When I asked the bartender about what are some popular IPAs from the state are, he told me that not a lot of people like IPAs; but more breweries are starting up around the area, and they always carry an IPA just to have one. Okay… Maybe I am too Pacific Northwest, but it was still disappointing to learn of the beer scene in Louisiana. The bartender was friendly though hence the two stars.

The Jackson Brewery used to be way more attractive with unique stores and local music. So I’m not sure what happened. It’s full of T-shirt shops and moderate eateries. The only thing left is the historical principal of the site(Constructed in 1891). It’s a nice place for to photos of The Mississippi River.

What a horrible and embarrassing facility for visitors of my great city. Really nothing much to offer with one of the worst food courts I have ever seen. A real certified tourist trap at one of the best locations in New Orleans. This venue needs a complete makeover as many of the tenants are either closed or there are none. Avoid this place like the plague.

Waited for a beer. Then saw other people waiting for a beer. Then waited for a beer a bit longer. Not many people there at all. I was dumbfounded. I then left. The brunette full sleeved tattoo girl tending the bar should do something else. So much for southern hospitality. I’ll disregard it. The French quarter is filled with listless transpants from up north.

Service so slow and staff not willing to do much about it. Left after 15 mins of waiting for water to arrive.

This place was a major bummer. The establishment was clean and setup nice for large parties upstairs and regular patrons downstairs. But, they do NOT make their own beer, only carry a small handful of draft beers. I had one and that was enough for me because it wasn’t very good the service was a not great and they kept making excuses as to how they were going to be getting really really busy with a party upstairs. A big MEH.

Only thing this place is good for is a big bathroom with no paper towels and getting out of pouring rain. Not even a single JAX Brewery pint glass for sale!!!

There´s really not much to say about this«craphole». It is hot as hell in here and the only use it seems to have is people using the bathrooms. I think when you work here you have to be depressed as I was depressed just by being in there for 10 minutes. Upstairs there are tourist trap shops and their all connected to each other. The lady told me «If you buy shirt I give discount. Normally 22 $ you get for 19 $. Yeah right and anywhere else I get the exact same shirt for 15 $. The sports store has a couple of nice things but that´s about it. I didn´t use their washrooms so I don´t know if they live up to the hype. Never again!

I used to love coming here since I was little. There were so many cool shops especially since it was connected to Virgin Records when it was here. Now I just walk through and use the restrooms. Maybe go to the food court or the Blue Penguin Yogurt Shop. I hope this building comes back to life! It’s biggest claim to fame is that it’s still the location of the fleur de lis drop on New Year’s Eve. Now that the Riverwalk has now reopened, maybe it’s time for this place to get revitalized and do the same.

There’s not a lot of stores here, mostly touristy knick knack type wares, and the food court is pretty pitiful. We were in and out shortly after browsing through this mall.

For sentimental reasons, this is one of our favorite places in the French Quarter. As soon as we arrive on Friday, we check into our hotel then stroll to the Jackson Square area to eat. After lunch, we head straight to Jax Brewery mall for the large PRIVATE restrooms… if you get my drift. There used to be a wonderful praline shop and a Pat O’Brien’s in the building, but they’re both gone, now. Although, I can’t really recommend the mall at this time(there’s always hope for the future) for shopping, it’s a nice place to take a potty break and walk around a little when it’s too cold or too hot outside. Before we leave New Orleans on Sunday, we usually check out of our hotel and park in the lot next door so we can take one last stroll around the French Quarter and along the river. Sigh. Such great memories. See you in March 2013!

This was an okay place to do some quick shopping even though most of the stores were nothing big in terms of name. There were two or three floors with the food court on the second floor. I walked through this place pretty quick because it was the 4th of July and I was going outside to get to my spot to watch fireworks. Overall, I thought this was an okay place but you probably won’t find anything that would be worth buying except maybe the food in the food court.

When we moved to the NOLA area in 2009, I was excited to take my family to Jax Brewery. I remembered all of my childhood trips to the area. Back then it was a bustling building with great shops, lots of food and large crowds. I learned to eat Crawfish here when I was about 13. I remember the waiter having a fun time teaching me. Now, it is just a shell of a builiding really. It has mediocre shops and scant food offeings. We do tend to stop in for the restrooms(hence the two stars) and we generally like to park in the adjacent lot. The building is beautiful and the location is prime. Hopefully it will make a comeback one day!

Beautiful building draws you in, the sparse stores hold your attention for a few minutes but it is the semi-clean washrooms that will keep you coming back. This place has the potential to be great.

This place is a waste of time. I actually thought it was a brewery. So, if you expect to sit in a taproom and have a brew, you will be sorely mistaken. This is more like a museum to the old JAX brewery with a few shelves of old brewery garb in the building as an exhibit. There is a food court and a collection of little shops but nothing of interest to me as a tourist. It also wasn’t taken care of very well and it was showing. There was also a funky must in the air that annoyed me a little. I don’t recommend this place at all.

The hurricanes and modern times have caught up with Jax… sad, but my personal memories are still fond of the place. Jax is a tourist mall and they really need to work on the place. The restrooms, the area, the sidewalks, and the tiles outside need much work. It is easy to see that the other places in the are have surpassed it, but the developers really need to get it together and recover it from Hurricane Katrina. Even though I knew it was touristy, returning after the years… they really let it go down. It is a great location and will always have potential… I just hope they build it back up before the reputation keeps people away for good. Thanks for the memories and wish you guys the best.

While walking around the Quarter, we decided to wander out toward the shops at Jax’s Brewery. I went here as a kid, and it’s still a good place for a break from the heat. It’s kind of cool since the building has been around for over 110 years. They have restaurants, snacks, and local stuff in you need to buy souvenirs. There is even an area to book tours for local activities. They have an ice-cream shop and a frozen yogurt shop as well. The only bummer is the Pat O’Brien’s located here is for private parties only. This location had a great view of the river, which was very relaxing when enjoying a drink. If you want a Hurricane, you’ll have to go back to the location off of St. Peter’s Street. They do have free bathrooms so that’s a bonus as well! If you need souvenir’s or just want to sit a minute, give this place a try.
