Great setup, and nice building. We saw Fleur De Tease here and really enjoyed it. We sprung for a private table and it was worth it in our opinion. We were there to see the show not socialize in the bar area.

I really like the venue. Laid out well, interesting shows and acts, pretty affordable. Every time I’ve gone it’s definitely more of a industrial, goth, rock, tattoos/piercings kinda vibe — but I imagine there is other music as well. Either way, I dig it for what it is.

Love this venue. Its warm, eccentric and just plain olé fun. I came here for a burlesque show and i was not let down. the event was very generously priced, the entertainment was great and all around this place is just cool. Also, the drinks are reasonably priced!

Definitely one of the better venues in town. The space has been used for all types of entertainment, whether it be stand up comedy, burlesque or a concert. Seating and standing room is flexible and tailored per show. Appropriate and affordable ticket prices, expected prices for drinks, and a great view, no matter where you stand!

Basically a typical New Orleans dive bar that offers some entertainment. Which I don’t mind at all. Love my city! Under staffed for events for sure. Female staff only attended male customers while the poor guy was killing himself to tend everyone. Oh well that’s the way it rolls but remember your tip reflects the service I get! It is a small venue and stock is limited but to offer only bud or bud lite beers …

Great venue for dancing, theres usually a pretty rockin’ show happening here as well. There are two bars, one in the front area when you first walk in, and another in the main-stage area. I will say, service tends to be quite slow on nights when this place is packed and that’s pretty typical of whenever there is a show. I’ve been here for both concerts, and working in film, we’ve shot a couple different projects here as well. I’ve never dealt with the owners myself, but they must be pretty cool people because they’re more than welcoming of the film industry using their facility without interference. Nice stage area and an even nicer sound system. I appreciate a music venue that understands you must invest in a quality sound system to complete the experience of a good show. There have been a surprising amount of times i’ve gone to so-called music venues and the sound system sounds as if it was donated from a school that had upgraded their equipment and given this one to whoever came by to pick it up first. Shows completely ruined because they either had a crappy sound system or worse sound engineer. Luckily, none of that is the case here. Be sure to check their calendar for upcoming events, there’s always something fun goin’ down at ol’ O.E.J.

They try way too hard to make this place look exclusive. Waited an hour and a half in line to get into a free show that was half empty inside

Great place to hear a live show. I attended a show of blue grass a couple of nights ago– cool and friendly staff, good drink prices and comfortable layout in the main music room. The stage is set back with plenty of dance room in the front and then steps lead to the back where the bar is located and seats are available on either side. They even provide water coolers with cups which is why they deserve that 5th star!

My third time here and the second time I’ve enjoyed it. The sound is good– not too loud, and even though they can pack a ton of people in there you don’t feel like sardines. Also, they make a great dark and stormy and Moscow mule!

No one would ever say this is the best club they’ve ever been to — it doesn’t have anything that would make it stand out from anything else. However, this was the best 80’s dance night I have been to in a long long time. Combine that with cheap cover, reasonably priced but strong drinks, and good people, and I’m sold. We started our NOLA vacation here after our first dinner. Girlfriend found out they did an 80’s night on Thursdays, so we were there. Got in on a $ 5 cover — it was still pretty early for NOLA, but we also had to be up early the next day, so we didn’t want to get too late of a start. The front of the place didn’t require a cover actually. They have a small but nice front bar — presumably a place to get away from the music and chill out. To get to the party though, you have to go to the back and pay a cover. No biggie — I’ve paid $ 50+ for a cover in Vegas. $ 5 is nothing. Inside the back, they have a decent sized bar area, kind of oval shaped, with a bartender on each side. They needed a third to help them out when it got busy, but the bartender who helped us was good — she wasn’t necessarily fast and we did have to wait as it got busier, but I will give her credit for being methodical and fair. She started at one end and worked her way to the other. Never saw her help someone who just walked up to replace someone who just got served. Plus, her drinks were strong. Not knock-you-on-your-rear strong, but a good pour nonetheless. The dance floor was big — it filled up, but you always had some room to dance and no one stepped on anyone’s toes or stabbed you with a stiletto heal(which has happened before). Crowd was a lot of fun; friendly, dancing, and having a good time. Met a few good people — mostly tourists, but at least one local, too, who we hung out with most of the night. The back of the dance floor had a large screen that was playing some cartoons all night — that was a bit weird; you’d think they’d play the music videos from the songs or something, but it didn’t detract from the night. The music was flat out awesome. If you want to be in a place that just plays every 80’s dance song you know, including many you’ve probably forgotten, then this is the place. And he played almost the entirety of every song(I hate DJs who play 20 seconds of a song then something else). We danced for hours and only left because we had somewhere to be early in the morning and needed some sleep before the day started. I don’t know what this place is like other nights of the week. Thursday may be it’s only good night — read other reviews to find out. But if you’re looking for the best 80’s dance night outside of Sunday nights at Andrews in Tallahassee(you’d have to be from FSU to get that, but that was an awesome 80’s night, too), then this is the place to go. Guaranteed fun.

THISPLACEROCKS! Going out here was the highlight of my first trip to New Orleans! I came here because I read the reviews here about 80s night on Thursdays. OHWHAT A NIGHT! The DJ was the best I have Ever heard; he played non-stop upbeat dance songs all night long. We never stopped dancing til about 2am. He never played a bad song AND he always played the entire song from the original 80s artist. They have a great dance floor. Not super large, but there was plenty of room so you didn’t feel cramped. And they have two bars, one near the dance floor in the back room and a bar near the front entrance so it was easy to get a drink. The place is comfortable for a group of girls to go into; it is not super divey. All sorts of people here from locals to visitors like me and my boyfriend. And the kicker — they have strong drinks. I am so used to getting weak drinks going out to clubs but they do it right here. And with only $ 5 cover charge you can’t go wrong. I am so won over by this place I told my boyfriend that the next time we come to NOLA we will arrive on a Thursday just so that we can spend the entire night here dancing!

This is one of my favorite venues… I have been to many shows and dance nights here and the sound is consistently good… never feels too crowded even when there are many people there. The décor is sexy and spooky, feels like David Lynch meets New Orleans. The drinks are cheap. Bathroom line is never too long. What’s not to like!

4⁄5 good venue, decent drink specials this is a great place. when i first came here i didn’t realize there was an entire back venue, had always just passed by and saw the front bar. i like that even when it’s pretty full it’s not that difficult to get a drink, and even during special events they will run specials that help stretch your buck over the entire evening. beware the corner-situated restrooms, as there can definitely be a wait, but otherwise i like the folks and events they bring in are pretty fun(especially NOLAW!)

I love this bar. It’s got tons of character. It use to be an old movie theater and it’s got cool red satin wallpaper in the main venue area. Every time I go to New Orleans it’s a big hangout place that I like to go. It’s a venue for bands and you can look up who will be playing on their website calendar. The acts are some of the best in town, mostly bands, but other fun stuff too. Bartenders are always nice every time I visit, and it’s in the heart of the French Quarter between Decatur and Bourbon on Toulouse St. Bottom Line: — Fun building with neat architecture and design — Watch great bands imported from all over the US and world — People are nice that work there

One Eyed Jacks is one of the best spots for live music, whether local or touring. The front bar is an interesting place to socialize, but once on the dancefloor, there’s no turning back. My favorite thing about One Eyed Jacks is 80s night — mega 80s nerd here, I’m wearing poofy shoulder pads and my hair is crimped as we speak. They play ANY80s hit you can imagine until the wee hours of the morning. There is plenty of dance space and if you have the right partner, you may dance until 6AM — if you aren’t careful. My only complaint is that the drinks are a little pricy, but the 80s go-go dancers on stage for the entire night make up for it. This bar also gets a lot of cool upcoming artists here and there. Not too long ago, Father John Misty dropped in for a one-night concert, which is pretty cool. One Eyed Jacks does a good job advertising their shows through Facebook, while also creating filler events to keep the locals entertained between concerts(birthday nights, 80s night). This bar is the one and only place I’d drop in on a Monday or a Thursday. ready to dance and drink until you can’t go any longer.

Odd I haven’t reviewed this place already. I come here quite a bit. Its one of my PBR places. When I turn down the beer snobbiness and enjoy a cheap beer. First thing you will notice is the décor. Creepy spooky, dark, red, has a wax museum look to it. It only gets better once you walk through the double doors at the back of the bar. Full blown theater! With another much bigger bar! If there is a comedy show, freak show or band, and its someone you like, and its here and you haven’t been, you gotta check it out! The kinda place you make really good memories. Without a show going on in the back, the front is kinda *meh* Still cool, but not as cool as the theater portion

I think One Eyed Jacks used to be the Shim Sham Club. I think I went to the Shim Sham Club many years ago, but the early 90s are a bit fuzzy. I do know that I had never been to this bar since it has been called One Eyed Jacks. I also know that when I walked in no memories came flooding back, so this review is based on my most recent, or only experience. I like the set up of this place. There is a bar near the entrance that is separate from the performance area. The separate area makes it a nice place to go if you want to get away from the big room. There is even a nice bench(not quite a couch) area along the wall where you can sit and relax. Inside the big room is a circular bar which made getting drinks relatively easy. They did place napkins a little too close to the lit candles which meant I had to extinguish a couple of minor fires while ordering drinks. It did add a little excitement to what is normally a boring task, so maybe that was their goal all along. Despite being in the Quarter, this bar has a non-touristy vibe. While I normally shun FQ venues, I would be willing to return here for a show.

I love One Eyed Jacks long time! The ambiance is right up my alley. Think: haunted, 1920s movie theatre with red burnt velvet wallpaper, dim chandeliers and lots of areas that seem secret/secluded. Anyone who feels at one with cats and birds must find the balcony that allows you to overlook the entry area. I like to stand up there and pretend it’s 1925 and I’m taking a break from operating a projector to watch people strolling in for a news or movie break. Speaking of that, there’s the upstairs bar where the projection room once was. It’s wonderful to drape yourself over the busted furniture and imagine you’re in an opium den, too. The bartender up there is extremely nice, too. If it’s not an overall packed out night, you should go up and visit her. It’s so dark and magical in OEJ that a couple years ago someone once came over to where I was sitting to gush about how much I look like PJ Harvey. I guess you can gather by now that One Eyed Jacks lends itself well to pretending you’re all sorts of things. But it’s also a good place to see a show, too!
